Efficient server management reduces costs and supports seamless operations
Cisco UCS B-Series has reliably sustained smooth operations without the need for significant maintenance. Its administration capabilities provide easy access to performance reports, logs, and utilization data, which are essential for effective server management. Additionally, the integration capabilities are seamless, and the power consumption and heat generation are low, resulting in reduced cooling costs and increased financial benefits.

Where I have not really enjoyed is the flexibility of doing things. You are just in a straitjacket with what they give you. The flexibility of doing things is limited compared to other platforms. The backup and restore features on that module were a bit old. I couldn't create a snapshot and provision a server in minutes. The VM features that I can use now easily were not that easy with HPE Integrity and were not even available for us. I had a lot of interaction with HPE Integrity and wanted to move to a different platform for a different experience. I did not see any products matching the Dell PowerFlex environment in terms of server capabilities when it comes to HPE Integrity. We are now using Oracle products and Oracle Data Guard. Oracle on HPE Integrity was a bit more difficult because you have to get separate patches, separate tunables, and separate kernel settings for HPE Integrity. Everything was so proprietary on HPE Integrity, making it difficult to have one solution. The Dell Linux environment with Oracle Linux OS now will be much easier.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable feature of the solution stems from the fact that it is easily scalable."
"The scalability is good because it comes with Fabric Interconnects, and you can directly add more blades as you go. Therefore, scalability is not a problem."
"The GUI makes is simple to use and deploy."
"My advice for anybody who is considering Cisco UCS is that if it's within your budget, I recommend it because they are popular in the market and it is easy to find experts."
"It is a very robust and reliable solution."
"The most valuable features of the Cisco UCS B-Series are reports for virtualization and the large memory it has."
"The servers' resilience was particularly impactful."
"The initial setup is simple, and not very complex."
"The benefit provided by the solution for my organization stems from the fact that it provides maximum reliability and availability to users."
"When it comes to high-fault tolerance, HPE Integrity is very good, and we have had very good experience with the integrity of the servers for mission-critical functions and high-fault tolerance."
"It's a very good product to use for medium-sized companies."
"It just keeps on going; we don't have any problems with any HPE equipment, to be fair."
"The stability is pretty good."
"HPE Integrity is a reliable solution, but you'll need to refurbish the hardware because it's approaching the end of sale."
"Except running Oracle on Integrity servers, its ROI is well justified in customer environments."
"The product's most valuable features are troubleshooting and monitoring."

Cons

"The management interface needs a lot of improvement. As it is right now, it's a pain to use. It's not user-friendly."
"The solution is difficult to set up."
"Integration with the storage to get a heatmap of what's going on in the storage site could be improved -- the dashboard, that kind of thing."
"The solution’s pricing could be improved and made cheaper."
"It could be helpful to have a wizard to make the setup routine better, and a wizard to help with the managerial processes to avoid misconfiguration issues."
"There are some shortcomings in the product when you look at it from the perspective of the area involving multiple configurations, making it an aspect where improvements are required."
"Dell should address the issue of direct support and spare parts availability in our region."
"I would really like to see an integrated management interface for all the products for FlexPod, as well as a verification tool like Immersive that can give you feedback about your compatibility with FlexPod guidelines."
"Where I have not really enjoyed is the flexibility of doing things. You are just in a straitjacket with what they give you."
"The virtualization of HPE Integrity could be simplified. We have discussed this issue with HPE and hopefully, they will have an update."
"Pricing is very high."
"The manageability must be improved."
"I would like to see a GUI interface to manage resources and deploy new servers."
"Blade system backplane is SPOF."
"The quantity of the processor from Integrity, because at this moment there's a limit."
"It is an old technology, so there is not much growth that we can do on it now."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Make sure you work with a vendor partner than can get you a substantial discount off of list pricing."
"The price of this solution is a little bit higher, but given that this system is Cisco, it feels more secure and dependable."
"The cost of the blade servers is okay, but the cost of Fabric Interconnects ends up increasing the overall costs. For example, suppose it costs 3,500 USD per blade server. When you include the Fabric Interconnects, you could pay up to 30,000 USD. Therefore, compared to the cost of servers from Lenovo, Huawei, Dell, or HP, the cost of Cisco servers can be high. However, Cisco gives good discounts (about 90% to 94%) to partners and to customers who are already using Cisco servers. New Cisco customers do not get the level of discount that an existing customer does. Because you can get discounts with Cisco, I would give pricing a rating of four out of five."
"There is a need to pay towards the licensing costs of the solution on a yearly basis. Price-wise, it is an expensive product"
"Cisco UCS B-Series is an expensive solution."
"The product is expensive."
"It makes much more sense for individual licenses for distributed environments"
"Pricing with Cisco is very high."
"Price-wise, the solution is very expensive."
"There is no license required to use HPE Integrity."
"HPE Integrity's pricing could be better."
"The price is not very expensive."
"The pricing is the best."
