Has enabled centralized user management and improved wireless access point aggregation
To improve Cisco Wireless, the ports on the access points are all 100 Meg, not 1 gig. We have not gotten a gigabyte interface of about 1,000, but the controller we have is just 1 gig. We would prefer if we could increase the controller to a 10 gig interface because we want to connect our controller to a 10 gig interface, which currently limits us to 1 gig. When we want to move higher capacity data via wireless, it limits us to 1 gig.

Wireless projects run smoothly with more access point support and competitive pricing
D-Link Wireless offers more supported APs to the WLC with the default license compared to other brands like Cisco. With Cisco, only four to five APs are connected with the default license, but D-Link Wireless provides more flexibility. Local support in Pakistan is necessary for those with limited budgets, creating a reach in the market.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It integrates with Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA)."
"I like that Cisco Wireless is easy to implement. If you get stuck with any issues, they have ample documentation on the internet. It's easy to implement, and Cisco documentation is easily accessible."
"Cisco Wireless technology allows us to logically segregate networks, to segregate the traffic between multiple types of endpoint devices, connected to the network. For example, corporate laptops are connected to one network, corporate iPhones will go through a different network."
"The solution is easy to use and its stable."
"This solution is highly stable. We have only had one issue in seven years."
"Compared to other solutions, captive guest network is one of the best isolation and tunneling."
"This is a very stable solution that solves complex issues."
"You need to learn the technology but after that the setup is easy."
"The setup process is very easy."
"The most valuable feature of D-Link Wireless is its durability."
"D-Link Wireless is a tool that is used since it is an easy and user-friendly product."
"The product's initial setup phase is easy."
"D-Link is a good product that is quite affordable and I recommend it."
"This is an affordable product that offers good performance. This is why it is popular with our customers. It offers good speed and bandwidth."
"Overall, I rate D-Link Wireless nine out of ten as a solution."
"It's scalable, user friendly, and easy to manage."

Cons

"The new GUI interface and the newer version OS are a little bit more complex than the older version, however, it just might take some getting used to."
"Room for improvement wise, the wireless coverage of Cisco's equipment could be better for the price position. That is, I think that the radius for the coverage could be better to make it worth the price that we pay for it."
"Improvement needed in RRM, ATF, Ortho-Polarization, AP concurrent client processing."
"There's a delay in equipment that comes to Columbia, to our country, and that lasts almost six months."
"The price could be better. The configuration is also complex. It would be better if there's an NEC solution. That's one of the things we really want to have. It should also be as fast as possible."
"There is a problem with the controller. When we have to restart the controller, it does not show the time. We have to manually configure the time when we restart it. I have read about this issue, to get some information, and all answers are about having to connect it with a time server, which is very difficult."
"Installation and deployment of Cisco Wireless is usually not straightforward and can be complicated."
"The stability could improve, there are some issues. We were told the version of the software we are using on all of the controllers is best for Cisco IOS, but we might need to update our software, this might fix the stability issues we are experiencing."
"Its interface and support system need much improvement. Sometimes, when we use the interface to reset the password and configure SSIDs, or some other changes, the "Save" option does not show and we have to go to some internal setting and then we can "save" the setting. The “Save” option should be in front of or below of the settings."
"D-Link has some catching up to do in terms of advancing and improving its technology."
"It would definitely help if we had more advanced features for distributing bandwidth."
"The cloud managed solution needs improvement, and they should focus on the SD-WAN segment with regard to integration."
"D-Link Wireless’s stability needs improvement."
"In future, it would also be good to have a switch within D Link that works as well as the Cisco 9200 Switch."
"Sometimes, the solution needs to be restarted."
"The solution's performance could be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The pricing is high. It could be cheaper."
"The pricing is a bit high."
"I think that the solution is expensive because the customer has to pay for a full year, at a minimum, in up-front costs."

"Pricing is a bit on the high side compared to its competitors but we have to consider the support and usages of the solution. Licensing is now RTU and smart licensing. We need three types of licenses. One for each of the: APs, HA, controller."
