Backup and recovery options integrate smoothly while affordability remains a challenge
My relationship with Veeam is that I am a reseller and system integrator. The support for both cloud-based and on-premises infrastructure from Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 impacts my data protection strategy because that's the reason we are using Veeam. Veeam is a platform that supports both on-prem and cloud. It's a single pane of glass that we can support both, which is one of the good reasons we are using Veeam. The key benefits my organization has experienced with Veeam's integration of SharePoint, OneDrive, Exchange, and Teams within its data protection framework are that single licensing is one of the things customers prefer to use because it's very easy for them to manage. I would rate Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 overall an eight on a scale from 1 to 10.

Pros

"It's a very straightforward product that is well integrated with everything."
"The setup is very simple. It takes 15 minutes."
"Backup and replication are the most valuable features."
"The solution is easy to use and stable and can be made to fit one's needs."
"The most valuable feature is the integration with our Teams environment."
"Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 is reliable and easy to use."
"I appreciate that Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 allows me to back up on both local storage and cloud storage, providing two options for data restoration."
"The support offered by both Veeam and our third party supplier is excellent."
"It is easy to set up. You can use some functions to make sure you get the maximum bandwidth to do the backup. It has an option to bypass Microsoft network limitations and things like that."

Cons

"In the next release, I would like to see better prices for the licenses."
"Veaam Backup can be confusing for customers when they start trying to understand how to use the product in multiple environments."
"They need to enable the encryption of backups so that nobody can gain access unless they have encryption details."
"It requires quite an amount of infrastructure. You have to set up the instance, and you need to know quite a bit about Microsoft 365 authentication. For some customers, it is a challenge."
"When using Veeam Backup for Office 365 when there is a server that's running, I have to have a hard drive installed on it. For example, if I want to use another storage solution, I can't incorporate it very well. If I want to use SMB or other protocols I cannot use them with the Veeam Backup for Office 365. They have the support in the other Veeam Backup and Restore solutions, but it doesn't support it in this solution. Hopefully, in the future, they figured it out."
"They can provide a dashboard for sizing. This feature might get included in the next release."
"Veeam's performance is inconsistent."
"We tried to use Veeam for our DRP. It was complicated to use and did not help us with our DRP needs due to our internet connectivity at that time."
"The solution could improve by having the ability to back up without an agent installed on the system."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It's a perpetual license."
"The pricing is expensive."
"The solution is very, very, very, cheap."
"It is strictly subscribed on a per-user basis."
"This is not a stand-alone product and requires a standard Veeam license for your organization in addition to the cost of the solution."
"The licensing price is quite high. It's expensive."
"I have a per-user license for the number of users and the mailboxes that I have."
"There is an annual license required and a per-user fee for this solution."
"From our perspective in South Africa, our biggest challenge is the exchange rate from the South African currency to the US dollar. This makes it a bit pricey for us. However, compared to other backup solutions available, I would rate the pricing at a nine out of ten. For the servers, features, and functionality you get, it's worth the money. Of course, we'd always prefer things to be cheaper, but we also understand that you have to pay for proper functionality. So overall, it's not badly priced at all."
