Data governance has transformed business glossaries and now drives AI-ready insights
I think it's a great platform. Searching can be made a little better. The data marketplace which it provides is also great, but sometimes when we are searching an element and we know we are not sure if we can find it or if we have missed it. Listing data domains in one place for quick visibility will be an add-on. I am not a hardcore coder. For a coder to create workflows and automate the process, I needed to learn Groovy script and create some workflows. In the automation part, I think it can also introduce a low-code, no-code platform where we can connect different connectors and we can quickly create some automated workflows, if at basic level only, because the next big thing is automation and AI. Low-code, no-code platforms are being used by everyone. I think that will be useful. When I look for a data domain, I'm not able to find it very quickly. For a business owner to know data domains and search data domains, it could be made a little easier. Also, the automation part needs improvement. We are only able to enter the data manually or connect to a data source, but now we want to create some workflows as well. That's why I've chosen a rating of eight. Otherwise, it's really great.

As I've said, we've tagged a lot of fields that are related to specific processes, like the driller's log or, for example, if you want to get a license to be a well driller. Now, what I'm having to do for the consultants is create an Excel spreadsheet that has the name of the tag and a description of it. I'm now creating a data silo. What would be helpful is a place, inside Lumada Data Catalog, where you can describe the tags that you're using. Otherwise, anybody coming into the system, or seeing the tag from the outside in one of the reports, is going to say, "What is that tag really referring to?" and has to know where my spreadsheet is.

Quotes from Members

Pros

"Collibra Platform has had a positive impact on structure, transparency, and alignment around data in my organization."
"The most valuable features of Collibra Lineage are the multiple options for automation. Additionally, if you have a scenario where automation does not work, you have the option to manually create the lineage. The solution does not force you to always go through an automated way where you have broken lineage and you are stuck without a lineage."
"We're saving a ton of time, eliminating any data systems that might have been used previously, and eliminating any last-minute scramble or days of back and forth questioning from stakeholders to other analysts by creating a central repository for terms in their metadata and providing a platform for further changes and approvals."
"The diagrams are good for data visualization."
"I like the lineage feature the most because I don't think there's any other tool that actually depicts the data flow from multiple sources and the connectivities between every data element inside those sources."
"The most valuable features of Collibra Governance are that it is user-friendly and easy to use."
"Collibra Platform has positively impacted my organization by helping identify quicker when we have data quality issues and their root cause, which has made a difference in saving time, reducing errors, and improving decision-making."
"The catalog feature is definitely valuable because it makes ingesting the metadata of any application quite simple. You don't have to do things manually. You can just schedule an import, and it will just refresh the metadata of whatever application you want. That's what I like. I usually work on the technical side, and other than that, I usually create integrations. I integrate Collibra with different environments or applications. I'm a developer, so I cannot vouch for the business, but for me, it is quite developer-friendly with the Java API interface and the REST API interface that they have provided. It is good for creating dashboards based on the needs of each and every role. It can be user-specific or group-specific. We usually create dashboards and give them to our business users, and they are quite happy with that."
"But overall, we spend a lot of time tagging data and working on data quality rules."
"The ability to easily and quickly ingest new data sources is the most valuable feature... I'm not an especially technical IT person, but my data governance lead and I are able to ingest the data, quickly profile it, and do data identification and tagging."

Cons

"Capturing the lineage becomes a little cumbersome in Collibra Platform when the technology landscape is a combination of multiple tools, so that is one thing which can be simplified."
"The licensing is one area that could get improved."
"The tool's overall functionalities need to improve since, nowadays, many tools, from a business perspective, are easy to use."
"I would say the DBA, the system we've learned, the product is still quite immature."
"Regarding licensing, I find it is one of the more expensive options, so it is not particularly affordable."
"What I use it for is fairly rudimentary, and I don't have any complaints about it. I haven't tried to stretch the boundaries at all, but it would be nice if there were capabilities built within the system to somehow help enforce the quality and consistency across related elements that are built in the catalog. It could have intelligent capabilities built in to help maintain the quality of the data and information, such as natural language processing, machine learning, and so on."
"Collibra Catalog could improve its automation to increase the efficiency of the software."
"There is room for improvement in the Collibra Data Catalog regarding data classification and categorization. It struggles to catalog all categories of data, particularly sensitive data on-prem, which GCP Data Catalog handles better."
"As I've said, we've tagged a lot of fields that are related to specific processes, like the driller's log or, for example, if you want to get a license to be a well driller."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It's expensive, especially for small companies."
"Collibra provides you with a license based on the subscription model that you purchase."
"Collibra Governance is extremely expensive"
"There are different levels of licenses. For example, some users can only do read-only licenses, and others have the stewardship license where they can give access to users."
"Generally, it is a rather expensive solution compared to some other tools in the market, but I found it to be fair-priced for its capabilities."
"Collibra Governance is an expensive solution."
"The product is highly priced compared to other vendors."
"I am not so much aware of price details. Initially, there was an add-on NuSoft license to use the DVC connector that NuSoft gives to create integrations, but Collibra is now phasing out of it slowly. Collibra is cutting ties with them is what we have been led to believe, and we have started developing on Spring Boot, which is open source."
"We can afford it. We got a three-year contract... If it were to go up and price a lot, I don't know if I would be able to keep it."
