Gained full visibility and streamlined threat detection through behavior-based insights and AI integration
Initially, we got to have a lot of false positives when we onboarded, but nowadays it's quite smooth. We have fine-tuned our security policies and allowed different levels of policies to get rid of those false positives. Currently, we are getting a fairly good amount of incidents that are not false positives or benign, but actionable items. The process is streamlined. In the initial days, the operations used to get involved in a lot of benign and other activities, but now the process is streamlined. We are leveraging the auto-detection and remediation plans. The operations teams are now more involved in other business roles as well, not just looking into the logs and fetching out what's happening there. They have fixed a lot of things. Initially, they didn't have IAC code drift detection, cloud posture management, or security posture management, but they have those now. They purchased different vendors and did a merger with that. They have now Prisma Cloud that gets integrated and now they are working with Cortex Cloud. Everything that was negative has now been addressed, and the product altogether looks to be in a very better and mature shape now. Currently, it's more or less detecting the workloads with AI-based best practices. Since most organizations are consuming AI agents and other things, we are looking forward to seeing what other feature enhancements Palo Alto can support in that.

Automated alerting and reporting excel while cost and feature limitations remain
I find automation to be one of the best and most valuable features of the product. Machine learning is incorporated into the solution, though AI is a broader term that I wouldn't apply here. I haven't personally explored AI yet, but I will investigate it. Machine learning functions more as automation in my experience, as there's no training involved yet. I want to conduct R&D on another project with Wazuh to determine how to capture usage, for example, tracking user logins and time spent. This is where I need to implement machine learning. Additionally, the extraction of GeoIP adds complexity. The solution is effectively reducing incident response times in operations.

AI-driven SOC triage has transformed threat monitoring and keeps our security work focused
The best features UnderDefense offers include mostly triage in-context signals read together across my stack, where one finding replaces many separate checks. A good thing too is its false positive suppression, as I do not get false notifications. Normal activity such as traffic spikes during customer events is recognized and documented, and only the unusual cases reach me. It has full-time support 24/7 with proactive reports, and monitoring runs around the clock. Reports and alerts come to me without even noticing or asking, so it is very useful. My team sees what happened without having to chase it. I find the proactive reporting and 24/7 support to have definitely made a real difference. Proactive reports mean I hear about what happened without having to ask, so I know the state of things at the start of the day, and 24/7 support matters most for traffic spikes and other events outside busy working hours, as I get an answer when I need one without keeping someone on call just in case, saving me a lot of time. Together, they let my team stay on infrastructure work and step in only when a decision is needed. Regarding UnderDefense's AI capabilities, I think the governance and security is the best there is, as the decisions that matter stay with my team and each finding is documented, allowing me to review afterwards how a conclusion was reached. That control and traceability is what I need from AI in a security role. The accuracy and reliability of UnderDefense's AI output is accurate and steady, as findings have matched what I saw when I checked them, and the pattern assessments are consistent, especially during large traffic events or spikes, which is when I depend on them most. When a case needs judgment, the reasoning is there so I can confirm it myself.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It can automatically correlate events and logs, which is very helpful for an IT administrator. It can correlate different kinds of malware activities over a network, agent, or host system. You do not need to do it manually. It is a good feature. It is also a user-friendly solution. We have deployed it on the cloud because our space does not provide any flexibility for on-premises deployment, but Palo Alto has added some flexibility to install it on-premises. It must be like the same Cortex XDR agent for all the VPN services, web filtering services, and everything else."
"The live terminal is probably the best thing ever. It gives you the access to get straight onto any machine."
"It has a higher cost than other solutions, like CrowdStrike or Microsoft’s EDR tools, but it reduces the cost of our operations because it’s a new generation antivirus tool."
"We switched because there were a lot of added features with Palo Alto that Check Point didn't have, and it was an upgrade for us."
"Cortex XDR by Palo Alto Networks has changed the way my security team detects, investigates, and responds to threats, as we are able to see the files, unwanted files, unsecured files, and unauthorized files, so we are quarantining them."
"The level of security I get for my endpoints and servers is extremely valuable."
"I recognize that Cortex XDR by Palo Alto Networks is one of the best products in its category regarding capabilities."
"The multi-layered approach to the product gives you confidence that it will stop exploits, ransomware, worms, or viruses from compromising endpoints, essentially providing peace of mind."
"We have found the solution has great functionality and it is easy to use."
"The integration capabilities of ConnectWise SIEM are off the shelf, making it easy to buy and use; you just unpack it and use it."
"One valuable feature of ConnectWise Fortify is the ability to add other teams and receive notifications when customers make changes or remove multi-factor authentication in Microsoft or SAP environments."
"UnderDefense groups it into one alert with the caller, the endpoint, and the usual pattern, which allows us to contact the customer the same day with facts in hand."
"UnderDefense Gen AI SOC flags behavior that breaks from an account's own baseline, lays out which signals triggered the alert and why it reads as different from normal activity, and helps our team decide within the same day whether we are seeing a legitimate big campaign push or a compromised login."
"Every morning we look at a short list of cases that matter instead of a long list of raw alerts, and each case comes with the full picture, so we can decide in a few minutes whether it needs action."
"Routine signals are handled and documented, and only cases that need a human decision reach my team, allowing engineers to spend their time on infrastructure hardening instead of log digging."
"The linking, the filtering, and the readable reasoning each help on their own, but together, they allow a small security team to handle the volume our platform produces without losing sight of the cases that matter."

Cons

"If you compare it to SentinelOne, which has more functionalities and detection capabilities on an open platform, the pricing on SentinelOne is far more reasonable and cheaper than Cortex XDR by Palo Alto Networks."
"The deployment is pretty hard."
"The configuration could be simplified. I would like to see better protection, specifically to protect email applications."
"I have seen lagging with Cortex XDR by Palo Alto Networks. There was one time when we faced a threat actor trying to gain access to our system. When our team utilized the tool, we were all on the same dashboard and we faced a lag issue at that time of around five minutes, which was quite significant."
"There is a severe gap in functionality between Windows, Linux, and Mac versions. For example all folder restriction settings are Windows only. Traps 5.0+ does not have SAML / LDAP integration."
"Being able to filter the events to see those that are related to the actual alert would save time spent by the engineer."
"There's room for improvement with Mac device installations, which can be challenging."
"I would rate it an 8 rather than a 10 mainly because there is still room to improve the user experience around complex investigations, including alert tuning and third-party integration."
"The manage portion of the solution is complicated and should be simplified by having different versions to meet the needs of different size companies."
"ConnectWise Fortify could work on covering more areas, like phishing messages, which have become more complicated to detect."
"ConnectWise SIEM is primarily focused on notifications and is limited in that aspect, while Wazuh can automate the elimination process."
"UnderDefense could improve in onboarding, which takes some dedicated time because the baseline for our high volume upload events needs to be set up first."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The pricing is a little high. It is per user per year."
"Licensing for Palo Alto Networks Cortex XDR can be costly, especially when it comes to a hundred users. A license is required for each user, and the subscription must be renewed on a yearly basis."
"It is cost-effective compared to similar solutions. It fits for the small businesses through to the big businesses."
"The return on investment is from the user side because we have seen the performance of it increase the delivery time of the product if we are using too many web-based and on-premise applications. In indirect ways, we saw the return of investment in terms of performance and user satisfaction increase."
"Traps pays for itself within the first 16 months of a three-year subscription. This is attributed to OPEX savings, as security teams spent less time trying to identify and isolate malware for analysis as a result of a reduction in malware incidents, false positives, and breach avoidance."
"If one wishes to work with another team or large number of users at a future point, he must purchase a license for them."
"In terms of the cost Cortex XDR by Palo Alto Networks is very expensive because we are a Mexican company and when you translate dollars to pesos the cost is very high. The solution is very expensive for Mexican companies. I understand that they have international prices, but I do not think it offsets the price enough for many companies in countries, such as Mexico. The amount it is reduced is not a massive percentage."
"The price of the solution could be reduced. I have customers that have voiced that the solution is good for the value but if I want to sell more of the solution the price reduction would help."
"The solution is expensive."
