Brings data together from multiple platforms and optimizes cross-environment orchestration
The features of Control-M that I like the most include the ability to easily integrate or bring in different platforms into Control-M. For instance, AWS, mainframe, TWS, and something that's running on Autosys can all be brought into Control-M, converted to how Control-M runs it, and then the batch can be executed. This centralizes various applications in Control-M, which doesn't just have to handle batch processes, but also other tasks like reporting on required data. I find this functionality very useful and the setup is impressive, with more advancements yet to come. With Control-M, my company has achieved several measurable improvements since I started. The metrics indicate that the number of failures has dropped, and we have addressed the issue of excessive false alerts that I encountered when I joined. Previously, we received an overwhelming number of alerts daily, but now we manage to maintain that at a normalized level, perhaps around five to fifteen alerts, depending on running core batches and their setup.

Good automation, no complex coding, and high-level data encryption
When it comes to performance and scalability, JSCAPE is a highly reliable software, however, I would suggest a few improvements: 1. The documentation needs a revamp for a better understanding of the features of the tool. 2. Customer service can be offered on call or chat. 3. The initial setup is time-consuming; it could use a video tutorial. 4. UI can be improved in terms of look and feel. 5. Documentation should be provided for a majority of newly released features as these can be difficult for a layman to use without proper instructions.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It has made everything a lot quicker, we've been able to get files transferred to vendors and we've been able to retrieve files from vendors rapidly and securely."
"The biggest lesson I have learned from using Control-M is that it makes your life easier in dealing with batch processing, whether on mainframe or distributed servers, allowing you to define everything the way you want."
"Control-M acts as a one-stop shop to check the status of all jobs."
"It can do anything that I need. We do real-time jobs. We also do jobs that have to run at certain times. I have not been presented with a scheduling need that I was not able to do. It is very flexible and dynamic."
"There are many valuable features, including its ability to interface with so many applications and allowing complex scheduling to be done easily."
"The most valuable feature is the automation process, as manual tasks like scanning claims at a hospital or dispensary are automated with Control-M, greatly reducing time and effort for processing and saving data."
"Control-M has positively impacted my organization greatly as we are running more than 5,000 jobs, including around 5,000 MFT jobs that transfer files from SharePoint to another server or between servers, helping us automate manual processes and reduce timeframes."
"Control-M is pretty critical to our business as it runs many different business processes every day, and if it wasn't there, we would probably hire many more people, be a lot slower, and be more prone to error."
"The JSCAPE MFT Server offers support for diverse protocols such as FTP(S), SFTP, SCP, AFTP, OFTP, and TFPT."
"The user-friendly interface has made it easy for fresh users to adopt it."
"Automating and managing the file transfer using JSCAPE has decreased the manual interventions necessary and increased the organization's efficiency and productivity."
"One of the standout features of this particular tool is its automation capabilities."
"It offers audit trails and reporting tools, allowing users to track file transfers, monitor user activities, and produce regulatory compliance reports."
"JSCAPE's automation can obliterate manual file transfer processes, salvaging precious time and vanquishing the chances of errors."
"We receive customized email notifications and alerts regarding user activities and the number of login attempts."
"The user interface feels easy to use."

Cons

"The response time could be faster when you need a person to answer your questions. There are situations where availability becomes crucial."
"Pricing and licensing for Control-M are challenging aspects."
"Some of the features are not available. We were about to deploy the REST API, but we had some challenges."
"Control-M SaaS is very expensive."
"There are some areas in Control-M that have room for improvement, particularly some constraints regarding the scripts, such as limitations in how they can be executed and integrated; it's not the normal scripting way in some cases."
"Control-M can be improved in several areas."
"Their technicians should be more involved when we're applying new technology to Control-M, such as cloud. We're working with cloud right now, with AWS, and getting the attention of a technician, sometimes, can take some time. It would be nice if they had somebody assigned to it. Dedicated support."
"Improve the capability to analyse the process output by making it more flexible."
"JSCAPE ensures data integrity. You know that the file has been transferred and on which date, as we provide timestamps."
"Improving the error handling feature can help users to identify and resolve issues more quickly and efficiently."
"The FTP/S and ad-hoc techniques can further be automated."
"The cost of the tool is relatively high and can pose a problem to medium and small-scale companies who are trying to overcome their on-premise server limitations."
"The initial setup and configuration are time-consuming."
"It covered the essentials but was overly complex, expensive, made it difficult to quickly implement solutions, and disliked by developers."
"With constant software releases and updates, detailed notifications and documentation on the improvements along with the comparison of the past and present features would be helpful to understand and use it better."
"The GUI has to be enhanced."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"This is an expensive product compared to other solutions, although I think that it is a good one. We are in a good position with licensing, as we can run 10,000 jobs."
"We are paying way more for Control-M than we've paid for any of our other scheduling tools."
"As we increase the number of tasks or jobs on the system, there are concerns about cost."
"For the tooling that you get, the licensing is acceptable. It has competitive pricing, especially with all the value that you get out of it. There are additional costs with some of the additional modules, but they are all electives. Out of the box, you get the standard Control-M experience and the standard license. They're not forcing some of the modules on you. If you decide that you do need them, you can always purchase those separately."
"One of the restrictions that we had was with some of the licensing, and not having any insight on the financials part of the product. I don't know what the licensing on the product is, but we don't have an unlimited enterprise license. So, there might be a limitation on either the cost of the licensing or the number of seats."
"This product saves hours in a day based on my experience working here versus other companies with manually operations."
"BMC's price is based on the number of jobs."
"It is an expensive solution."
"The software is expensive compared to other vendors."
