Have supported critical environments despite room for improvement in legacy backup options
It is very efficient in cyber resilience. Deduplication, automation, and everything is very efficient. It is multi-cloud enabled and has broad protections. The software delivers flexible and efficient backup and recovery options through its cyber resiliency features. Dell PowerProtect Manager provides insights in managing backup processes. Its encryption mechanisms are very efficient, helping to secure sensitive data. Its integration with Dell EMC Data Domain is very good. It is easy to integrate with Data Domain. Multi-cloud options are enabled, and backup in cloud options exist in Dell Avamar.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I believe it is a good backup and recovery solution based on our limited experience in the short period we have been using it."
"We've been using this solution to backup our servers, and it is a simple backup and restore data application."
"I recommend EMC products due to their stability."
"The product is very powerful and offers very good performance."
"If you're enterprise, you are definitely going to use Avamar because it can save a lot of space because of its duplication feature, which is great."
"The backup is the solution's most valuable feature. It's very reliable."
"It works quickly and is very stable."
"Every product is good and bad, but its claim to fame is that it is scalable; we're doing more than 3,000 VMs, and every single night a complete image backup to disks and replication are easily done in under four hours."
"The most valuable feature for me is the policy management capabilities"
"The flexible ways you can get to the data and the options that it gives you for backing up your valuable data are what make its offsite storage so valuable."

Cons

"We'd like to see something that could also work with Unix servers and physical servers to have a unified solution that works with everything."
"The negative of this solution is that it certainly wouldn't cover a super large enterprise where they have other tool needs."
"It's very slow to backup and store information. It has two consoles and an application which are more difficult to use than a solution like Veeam."
"The solution, in the future, should offer support for mobile."
"The reporting should be improved, as we currently have to use another tool for that purpose."
"I want to see a more user-friendly and administrator-friendly Dell Avamar. The solution also needs a better UI and dashboard."
"I would like to see better integration with third-party applications and platforms."
"It would be helpful if there was cloud support."
"I would like to see more integration with different platforms."
"Basically, the only thing I do not like about it, it was keyed off Lotus Notes."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It is very expensive. It's a trust based licensing. So that's an ethical challenge."
"Dell EMC needs to lower Avamar's price and add more features to stay competitive."
"Dell Avamar is a moderately priced solution."
"It's a very high-end solution and comparable to Rubrik and Cohesity."
"The solution is expensive."
"The price of this product should be lower."
"I rate the pricing a seven out of ten because it is expensive."
"Its price should be reduced. It would be good if you could pay as per usage, and there is a subscription model like VMware. There should be some flexibility because sometimes, the customer only uses the backup for one month or three months. Currently, I have to pay whether I use it or not. Its licensing should be flexible and based on consumption."
