Have supported critical environments despite room for improvement in legacy backup options
It is very efficient in cyber resilience. Deduplication, automation, and everything is very efficient. It is multi-cloud enabled and has broad protections. The software delivers flexible and efficient backup and recovery options through its cyber resiliency features. Dell PowerProtect Manager provides insights in managing backup processes. Its encryption mechanisms are very efficient, helping to secure sensitive data. Its integration with Dell EMC Data Domain is very good. It is easy to integrate with Data Domain. Multi-cloud options are enabled, and backup in cloud options exist in Dell Avamar.

An affordable product that offers a reasonably good technical support
I rate the product's initial setup phase an eight on a scale of one to ten, where one is a difficult setup phase, and ten is an easy setup phase. The product's installation phase took me around two weeks. On average, it usually takes about a week or two to deploy when everything is in place. The solution is deployed on a hybrid cloud from Azure.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The solution is very user-friendly."
"I always recommend Dell Avamar to our enterprise customers because the product is costly, and enterprise customers can afford it."
"Avamar evaluates the data that's already backed up, and only the chain blocks can be transferred via the network, so there won't be any heavy network traffic and the time it takes to backup is quick and within the window."
"Customer Service: Very good."
"This product is very easy to use; the interface is easier to use than other backup solutions, and the product is mature and can handle all of our data protection."
"I like Dell EMC Avamar's compression of data; it's stable and scalable, and I have not had any problems with it."
"The most valuable feature of Avamar would have to be the way it works over needing very little bandwidth to move data across a WAN or LAN."
"We love the instant recovery functionality. It's very useful."
"Nutanix has its own backup system known as HYCU, as well as its own virtual server."
"We use this solution as an integrated backup solution and it is integrated from the backup provider to the Nutanix solution."
"I like the autofill-over feature and the simplicity of the solution."
"Nutanix can converge legacy-style rack mount servers, so it is highly scalable."
"Our primary use case for the solution is to back up our devices and equipment for employees and some equipment in airport software."
"Nutanix Mine Integrated Backup is useful for those who run an infrastructure where there might arise a need to do some transition or want to opt for digital transformation."
"Stability-wise, I rate the solution a nine out of ten...Scalability-wise, I rate the solution a nine out of ten...I rate the technical support a nine out of ten."
"Nutanix, in my opinion, will eventually take over."

Cons

"The negative of this solution is that it certainly wouldn't cover a super large enterprise where they have other tool needs."
"It would be helpful if the product offered more integration potential."
"The product could be easier to troubleshoot. When I had a problem with the software, I invested a lot of time to find out what the problem was."
"It was challenging to back up our Exchange database, which is one of the reasons we did not continue using this solution."
"I would like to see better integration with third-party applications and platforms."
"If you need to pull data out of it to offload to tapes, that's messy. You have a mechanism for it, but it is painful."
"The challenges we do face typically revolve around aligning specific features with our accustomed tool usage."
"It is very scalable, and that's its claim to fame, but that also makes it hard to make changes. Anytime there is a large piece of software, changing that piece of software is harder. You've got a larger install base, so you can't just rapidly change. We also use another product called Veeam, and it has this new feature called Continuous Data Protection, which basically lets you get very close to the way the system was in time. We have a system or two up there on which we have set 10 minutes Continuous Data Protection. So, we can roll it back to whatever it was 10 minutes ago, 20 minutes ago, or 30 minutes ago. This feature doesn't exist in Avamar Data Domain. That's the one feature I'd like to see first."
"The price of the product is an area of concern where improvements are required."
"It could be cheaper."
"The pricing could be improved. It's an expensive solution."
"Nutanix is not secure enough, and it needs to be more resilient."
"The solution could be cheaper and they should include more education or marketing materials for users to understand how to use the solution."
"I would like to see the multi-cloud improve."
"The solution's setup process should be simplified."
"This solution could be improved with regards to the hosts that integrate with the platform itself. Each of the hosts integrated with the storage and networking only provide one instance of a backup."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"This solution is less expensive than Veeam for us, although it depends on the customer because we get a great discount."
"There are licensing costs for Dell EMC Avamar and it is paid annually."
"The price of this product should be lower."
"The solution is not expensive for the value one gets."
"The price is fair."
"Regarding pricing, I would say Avamar is slightly expensive compared to its functionalities. It's not high-priced or low-priced but somewhere in between."
"I'm not sure, but perhaps the pricing could be done better at the moment."
"It might not be beneficial to smaller businesses due to its high cost."
"I rate the pricing a five out of ten because the price is average."
"Nutanix Mine Integrated Backup is fairly priced."
"While Nutanix Mine is extremely expensive for small businesses, it is a very cost-effective product for enterprise businesses."
"On a scale of one to ten, where one is affordable or low, and ten is expensive or high, I rate the price as two."
