An affordable product that offers a reasonably good technical support
I rate the product's initial setup phase an eight on a scale of one to ten, where one is a difficult setup phase, and ten is an easy setup phase. The product's installation phase took me around two weeks. On average, it usually takes about a week or two to deploy when everything is in place. The solution is deployed on a hybrid cloud from Azure.

Unified backups have protected virtual machines and applications and optimize storage efficiency
Regarding automated disaster recovery, we have not used Veritas NetBackup automated disaster recovery because according to the RFP terms and conditions, we are not supposed to have automated failover or failback, as we are a government entity and cannot violate the rules of the RFP. My feedback about granular recovery in Veritas NetBackup is that we have been doing verifications of the backed-up data to restore from point to point and time to time, focusing on file level or database level. When it comes to integration with cloud services, we have not started because we are a government entity and are not allowed to store any data in the cloud at this time. From security concerns regarding what I would improve about Veritas NetBackup, I think you need to look into this because we found only one encryption option available, which is not that very strong. When I initiate a backup from my laptop or server to the appliance or the tape media using Veritas NetBackup, the encryption channels are not strong, and there are not many options available. Whatever is there is by default and not changeable. We cannot modify any encryption facilities, and security is a big concern nowadays, so you need to look into that. Regarding the functionality part of Veritas NetBackup, I think this encryption feature should be stronger and integrated from point to point, not just at specific levels. When I initiate a backup, all the communication channels involved should be encrypted until it reaches the endpoint, meaning from client to server, server to client, and client device.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Stability-wise, I rate the solution a nine out of ten...Scalability-wise, I rate the solution a nine out of ten...I rate the technical support a nine out of ten."
"I like the autofill-over feature and the simplicity of the solution."
"We use this solution as an integrated backup solution and it is integrated from the backup provider to the Nutanix solution."
"We find the ease of use valuable."
"Nutanix can converge legacy-style rack mount servers, so it is highly scalable."
"Nutanix has its own backup system known as HYCU, as well as its own virtual server."
"I like the virtual server backup."
"It saves time for the backup needs of our organization."
"The most valuable feature is that it is basically a replica of our SAND data. We archive the SAND data for recovery, if there is an issue on the fence."
"Its ability to cover a large spectrum of products and operating systems is invaluable. We evaluated other products but always found certain limitations like some products had only intel-based virtualization, while others had power servers."
"DLO: Client for laptops."
"It is easy to use, and you can run it with all kinds of client software environments. It works well with the most popular software, file systems, and operating systems. It is very useful to us."
"Logs are very easy to read, parse, and use for diagnostics."
"Veritas NetBackup Automatic Image Replication and CloudCatalyst features allow me to replicate deduped backup images from one site to a remote site, as well as duplicating deduped images to the Cloud (i.e. AWS S3, etc.)"

Cons

"I would like to see the multi-cloud improve."
"The solution's setup process should be simplified."
"The price of the product is an area of concern where improvements are required."
"Nutanix is not secure enough, and it needs to be more resilient."
"It could be cheaper."
"This solution could be improved with regards to the hosts that integrate with the platform itself. Each of the hosts integrated with the storage and networking only provide one instance of a backup."
"It was very complicated, and it required a lot of work in terms of management. We have moved to Rubrik. One of the reasons for getting rid of Veritas NetBackup was the fact that at one point, we had the support staff with 12 to 15 people to manage Veritas NetBackup, whereas, with Rubrik, I'm the only one managing Rubrik. There is one more person who works with me mostly due to the fact that in case I'm not around, someone else knows what to do, but I'm the only one who is a full-time manager of Rubrik. The complexity of Veritas required a large staff to manage it. We had daily issues that had to be looked into and resolved. A lot of these issues revolved around Veritas' handling of VMware, which is why first we moved VMware off Veritas. After we did that, we were also able to reduce our staff count. Their licensing is a disaster. It is extremely complicated. In most cases, Veritas themselves can't understand their own licensing."
"The solution's technical support process should be improved."
"Veritas NetBackup has been in the backup and recovery market for quite a long time, but somehow, from my own observations and from feedback from end users, its user interface is lagging behind other comparable solutions such as Veeam."
"Veritas NetBackup has some limitations and it would be a benefit if we had better documentation."
"The reporting of the backups could be better."
"The ease of use needs improvement."
"We had some issues with the hardware backup appliance."
"The user interface could improve, it seems a bit out of date."

"Nutanix Mine Integrated Backup is fairly priced."
"On a scale of one to ten, where one is affordable or low, and ten is expensive or high, I rate the price as two."
"I rate the pricing a five out of ten because the price is average."
"I rate the product's pricing a seven out of ten."
"Pricing is good, under our budget, and flexible."
"When we consider the quality and value of Veritas NetBackup, it is worth the cost."
"The solution is expensive."
"Annual licensing fee."
"Most people have felt this solution was somewhat expensive."
"A better price would make this product more competitive."
"Price-wise, most of the backup products are similarly priced, and NetBackup is the same."
