Supports flexible hosting needs through seamless upgradability and strong monitoring capabilities
The most valuable features of Dell PowerEdge R-Series for me are the feature richness and the upgradability. I really love the way that it is so dynamically applicable for every situation, and they manage to have an all-in-one solution for every single situation. Dell PowerEdge has supported the growth and operational success of my company through its great compute power and price-to-performance ratio. Every time Dell is at the top of its game for us, and there is just no other brand for us that is able to reach that kind of price-to-performance ratio. Dell PowerEdge R-Series has features that specifically cater to the needs of my small company, such as iDRAC. The iDRAC system is a complete feature set for managing servers and hardware technically and monitoring-wise. It really fits in our system and our ecosystem, and monitoring-wise, it is excellent. They have all these sensors available via different protocols and end points, which I love, and the ability to manage and control everything via the iDRAC interface is just a welcome bonus. In our use case, Dell PowerEdge R-Series is very flexible. It is another computer which helps a lot because of the durability over time. They keep running, making scalability for getting more of those resources in our environment so easy.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I would evaluate the support from Dell as exceptional."
"Specific benefits that I can pinpoint include performance, productivity, and efficiency."
"Using Dell PowerEdge R-Series servers has helped reduce my total cost of ownership significantly because we were running most of these workloads on AWS, which charged us on an hourly basis, and running it on-premises has reduced our costs significantly and given more compute to the users."
"It is a stable server. I have never faced any failure with these servers. They keep running for at least five to seven years without any issues."
"I appreciate Dell solutions because they are reliable, and we know what we are getting; if we do need support, it is quick."
"Overall, I would rate Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers ten out of ten."
"If you are looking for a stable system, good support, and performance, then going with Dell ensures you are safe."
"The OpenMange console is effective."
"It is a very practical solution because you have all the servers in a minimal space."
"Fujitsu Primergy BX400 Series has two processors."
"We installed Fujitsu Primergy BX400 Series for a high PC solution, and for this reason, some Microsoft licenses and other special licenses were embedded or bundled to the Fujitsu solution."
"The most valuable feature of the solution is its stability."

Cons

"Reduced cabling and improved power consumption management would be beneficial improvements."
"We do encounter power supply failures from time to time."
"For example, I have an old R230, and I have a problem with a fan. I cannot determine that the fan needs attention without putting the alarm on this fan."
"There is no advantage compared to other vendors when tracking return on investment."
"The physical design could be improved as it is heavy and quite large when racked."
"The solution needs to offer better service feedback, their response rate is slow when we have questions."
"There might be room for improvement, especially in the software aspect, such as firmware updates."
"Dell could increase the training. My ability to use the product improved vastly once I became more knowledgeable about it. The sales desk and presales service could also improve."
"It is much better to use “normal” servers. The initial investment for a blade server is very high and creates dependency."
"The initial setup of Fujitsu Primergy BX400 Series was complex."
"It can have more automation."
"It can have more automation. In addition, Fujitsu should have a broader portfolio, not specifically in terms of the service solutions, but more in terms of the big picture. A broader portfolio would be nice for providing different solutions for the customers."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"When you compare public cloud solutions to PowerEdge in terms of cost, initially the cost of Dell servers or Dell technology was really high. However, right now it's on par or, maybe, even cheaper when we use Dell hardware. If we don't swap it out in three years and if we stretch it to four or five years, then we can get even more of an ROI versus cloud cost."
"The cost structure associated with Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers aligns closely with the prevailing norms established within the information technology hardware sector."
"It is very competitive. I have not been too involved in the licensing, but from a hardware perspective, I always find them to be competitive."
"The pricing for this solution is competitive compared to others on the market."
"Regarding the pricing, it seems fair."
"We weren't paying very much, but it was at the end of the lifecycle. We are now using the VxRail hyper-converged infrastructure, and the pricing was very similar for the same amount of power but with easier automation."
"I wouldn't say the solution's pricing is the best, but it's very competitive."
"I'd like them to be cheaper, but that's not the world we live in and that's not where the pound is at."
"There are special licenses that are connected to the usage. We installed Fujitsu Primergy BX400 Series for a high PC solution, and for this reason, some Microsoft licenses and other special licenses were embedded or bundled to the Fujitsu solution."
"No license is required to operate the product."
