Supports flexible hosting needs through seamless upgradability and strong monitoring capabilities
The most valuable features of Dell PowerEdge R-Series for me are the feature richness and the upgradability. I really love the way that it is so dynamically applicable for every situation, and they manage to have an all-in-one solution for every single situation. Dell PowerEdge has supported the growth and operational success of my company through its great compute power and price-to-performance ratio. Every time Dell is at the top of its game for us, and there is just no other brand for us that is able to reach that kind of price-to-performance ratio. Dell PowerEdge R-Series has features that specifically cater to the needs of my small company, such as iDRAC. The iDRAC system is a complete feature set for managing servers and hardware technically and monitoring-wise. It really fits in our system and our ecosystem, and monitoring-wise, it is excellent. They have all these sensors available via different protocols and end points, which I love, and the ability to manage and control everything via the iDRAC interface is just a welcome bonus. In our use case, Dell PowerEdge R-Series is very flexible. It is another computer which helps a lot because of the durability over time. They keep running, making scalability for getting more of those resources in our environment so easy.

With a perfect record for uptime, the solution ensures a return on investment
Since it is a legacy tool, there is a need to change it for flexibility. I think now it has improved because the security is very good. It is very secure for the performance of the machine critical application service, and it is very good. I don't know how to speak more on improvement needed because it's a good enough tool. However, depending on the application, it's limited. Not a lot of applications run on HPE NonStop. It is not flexible because I know that because of the compatibility of Java with HPE NonStop. When we are using Java, the performance is not good.

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"In regards to security, I have noticed that we can implement Active Directory to the iDRAC. It is more secure that way. Then, everyone can access it as they please."
"I believe Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers can grow with our business."
"All of the customers are pretty happy with the Dell PowerEdge Rack servers."
"Dell PowerEdge R-Series has supported my growth and operational success very well; it is easy to expand and nice to work with if I need to do any maintenance."
"The solution delivers what it promises. You look at the specs and it delivers them."
"The most valuable feature is the storage, which is offered in different varieties with many options depending on the use cases, including unstructured data."
"The most valuable feature is standardization because we have a small group of IT resources that need to do the operational tasks."
"Using the PowerEdge Servers and the Dell switch stack interchangeably skyrocketed the firm in the office."
"If you are contemplating a fault-tolerant, high uptime transaction processing machine with above normal transactions volumes - to act as a transaction server with infrequent changes to code - and you simply must have bulletproof performance - this might be the ticket."
"It helps us to keep the business running 24/7."
"This is the standard for reliability and fault-resilience."
"We don't have any issues with the stability of HPE NonStop."
"Feature-wise, the most valuable one is the fact that it has 100 hundred percent uptime every year. Secondly, it is stable."
"Because we're able to get immediate support, this prevents downtime and directly impacts cost savings."
"It is a nearly perfect product, although it also has some restrictions and short comings."
"The HPE NonStop solution is rated with the highest level of availability in the industry."

Cons

"Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers could improve in clarity when specifying options; for instance, the difference between power supplies can sometimes be a little challenging to understand if you don't already know."
"Another issue is memory price, which makes it quite expensive to scale."
"While I wouldn't call it a problem, physically mounting the servers into the rails that come with the servers can be a challenge. They could be engineered to be a little bit easier to use. It's not that significant, we can manage it, but you need at least two people to do it together because they're a bit heavy."
"As the disks and memory should be expandable, I would highlight scalability as an issue."
"The solution should give us an option to add on the new hardware features."
"Improvement is always necessary for Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers so that people don't take it for granted. It keeps everyone on their toes to continue improving."
"Since the start of COVID, there is a shortage of support resources and it is challenging to get queries resolved quickly."
"The physical design could be improved as it is heavy and quite large when racked."
"It is not flexible...Not a lot of applications run on HPE NonStop."
"HPE NonStop could improve by having infrastructure management."
"NonStop (formerly known as Tandem) in the Guardian OS could use another, friendlier macro language."
"It would be helpful if they brought the price down."
"Currently the NonStop platform doesn’t support virtualization of servers or CPU’s. Only storage."
"There were some scalability issues. When we decided to migrate an application or port application, the limitations of these servers did not help us."
"It is a nearly perfect product, although it also has some restrictions and short comings."
"I would never advise someone to buy or to implement the new NonStop because it's hard to find skilled people."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The cost structure associated with Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers aligns closely with the prevailing norms established within the information technology hardware sector."
"The pricing for this solution is competitive compared to others on the market."
"If price isn't a concern, I would recommend it."
"It has generally been very competitive. It is not the best, but it is very competitive."
"Dell is somewhat more expensive than HPE."
"Pricing appears to be comparatively favorable, particularly within the project's scope."
"I am satisfied with the pricing of the Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers and would rate the cost as seven out of ten, with ten being the best."
"The pricing is great; very competitive. That's the reason we bought hundreds of them."
"On a scale of one to ten, where one is very cheap, and ten is very expensive, I rate the pricing an eight."
"The price of the solution is too high. If they lowered the price substantially it would open up more opportunities. It's considered a replacement for the old 9000 boxes of HP. If it had a lower price, we would be able to compete in the financial, and other sectors and other solutions such as Terraform. Having a high price makes other solutions more attractive."
"HPE NonStop is definitely on the higher end."
