Unified file sharing has simplified multi-tenant access and has delivered seamless data replication
Dell PowerScale (Isilon) includes its replication features; when we decommissioned our old Isilon cluster, we migrated all of the data to a new cluster, and it was pretty seamless. All you have to do is create the certificates and make those certificates available to the target cluster, then initiate a few jobs. The inter-cluster replication feature, called SyncIQ, allows you to set up all of the jobs and move your data entirely, either timely or all at once. Another suitable feature is the ability to back up your directories; you can take snapshots for all of your directories, and in fact, I believe you can take around a thousand snapshots for a single directory. The inter-replication, geo-replication is one feature. Dell provides a variety class of hardware suitable for your workloads, meaning if your data is just lab and not critical, you don't have to spend much on the hardware; conversely, if your data is mission-critical, you can buy a high-performance node from Dell. Additionally, you can span Dell PowerScale (Isilon) cluster to a large number of nodes, and code upgrades are pretty smooth because all protocols will be upgraded under a single piece of code. Since it provides a single file system that spans across the nodes, you don't have to worry about that directory structure being separately created on individual nodes, making it a fitting solution for a data lake solution because you can access the same data from multiple protocols.

Efficient file management and cloud replication enhance business operations
HPE StoreEasy is a stable and high-performing solution that HPE supports effectively. A key feature is that it is customizable to adjust to our necessities. I would rate the solution as nine out of ten. Consider adding more security features similar to iLO's security recommendations to improve resilience against ransomware.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"My favorite thing about Dell PowerScale is its scalability."
"The tool's most valuable features are scalability and stability."
"Customer service has been really good."
"Dell PowerScale (Isilon) has powerful security, which makes it a very reliable storage solution for our content, and also the support and observability of our system; the call home feature is fantastic because when it presents an issue, Dell automatically opens a ticket regarding any warnings or alerts, allowing us to have a complete view of our system's health."
"The solution in general has allowed us to move off of multiple Windows boxes where they had huge data stores, and we migrated it to the Isilon, making it easier and more cost-effective with just one point of contact."
"It has saved me from having to hire one person over the last six months, and our IT team has gotten about 40 percent of its time back."
"PowerScale, in our infrastructure, is really a winning piece because today we have three times the performance on the I/O at an affordable price while greatly improving the performance and reliability of our HPC storage."
"The major advantages include data protection, ransomware protection, and cloud capabilities, and the primary advantage is the ability to use the entire cluster in one unified file system, which is a feature I have not observed in other products."
"I like the user quotas, integrations, and separations for storage."
"The solution's most valuable feature is the duplication."
"It is a robust system, reliable, and well-priced."
"StoreEasy is a better solution for backup purposes."
"I like the tool's provisioning feature and OneView."
"The scalability of HPE StoreEasy is good, with approximately 2,000 users including students, professors, and other departments using it on a daily basis."
"It is easy to manage. There is a management console that comes with StoreEasy. It simplifies managing storage permission. There is snapshot scheduling as well. The updates and everything else is good."
"The solution is very good."

Cons

"If I could improve one thing on Dell PowerScale (Isilon), it would be better object storage as it recently breached into S3, and that capability could be broadened."
"The replication could lend itself to some improvement around encryption in transit and managing the racing of large volumes of data. The process of file over and file back can be tedious. Hopefully, you never end up going into a DR. If you do go into a DR, you know the data is there on the remote site. However, in terms of the process of setting up the replicates and filing them back, that is just very tedious and could definitely do with some improvement."
"From the disadvantages perspective, if I need to replace a drive, I must shut down that node."
"There is room for improvement in its handling of object storage."
"The portal is really complicated to figure out features and functions, and it could be easier to navigate."
"The tool's support team and the way the cases are handled by the product's technical support team are both areas of concern where improvements are required."
"Its configuration needs to be more straightforward."
"The previous versions do not support features like object storage; S3 and better cloud connectivity are things I would like to see."
"The areas of HPE StoreEasy that need improvement are scalability and migration."
"The support of HPE StoreEasy can improve its responsiveness. Dell support is better."
"There could be improvements in providing more hardening options on the operating system side, similar to iLO's security scoreboard."
"The cluster service is not available in the latest version of HPE StoreEasy."
"I would like to improve the tool's technical support. I would also like to see the product's hybrid cloud version."
"StoreEasy has a huge scalability issue."
"When I configure the StoreEasy in a complex environment I have problems finding compatibility with all the software."
"It would be better if it were more scalable. In the next release, I would like to access some Microsoft Windows storage server features. I guess the newest version of Windows Server has some restrictions."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The pricing is excellent."
"The pricing is expensive, but I think it's a fair value because it does manage itself. It definitely is much simpler than any of the other scale-out storage platforms that we've looked at in the past."
"The price of the solution is high."
"The solution's licensing cost varies based on capacity and performance requirements."
"The general cost for a system like this is expensive. The total cost depends on your use case. You need to pay for every additional feature that you use."
"It is a really expensive solution."
"The pricing for this solution is reasonable."
"The solution is expensive; it is not the cheapest solution out there. If you look at it from a total cost of ownership perspective, then it is a very compelling solution. However, if you're looking at just dollar per terabyte and not looking at the big picture, then you could be distracted by the price. It is not an amazing price, but it's pretty good. It is also very good when you consider the total cost of ownership and ease of management."
"Based on what I hear from our customers, it is not very expensive. From the cost perspective, I see nobody complaining about its cost."
"The price of HPE StoreEasy is approximately $15,000 to $20,000 and it is a one-time purchase. The price is similar to competitors, such as Dell."
"I would rate the tool's pricing an eight out of ten. You need to pay additional costs for the solution."
"This is an economical solution for the company and I am satisfied with the pricing."
