Continuous data protection guarantees data safety during outages and disasters
Based on my experience, I do recommend Dell RecoverPoint to other businesses. The environment requiring Dell RecoverPoint, such as banks or telcos where data equals money, cannot afford to lose data. The overall solution rating is eight, considering the competition from one or two more OEMs giving a tough time to Dell RecoverPoint.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The image backup feature is great. For example, if you set the journal to take a backup every ten minutes, it will create a snapshot or pointer every ten minutes for as long as you need."
"The most valuable feature we have found in RecoverPoint is its ability to provide the lowest RPO."
"The setups that we have in place are great."
"RecoverPoint can be depended on as your only disaster recovery solution without any need to mix different types of failover systems."
"With RecoverPoint, we can instantly mount an image Point in Time in case of a problem, and the Recovery Time Objective was improved for sure."
"The solution is very stable. Once it's installed, many customers forget they even have it."
"The tool's most valuable feature is stability."
"Customer Service: Very good, EMC did support us to implement it well and gave useful instructions and lessons to help to maintain it well."
"We achieved 99% data availability."
"Customer Service: Excellent, we had on sight SME for new releases, migrations that knew the product well."

Cons

"The new Gen5 appliances have adopted the Unisphere management interface and it is written for Adobe Flash, which in my experience, is very slow and makes administration cumbersome at times."
"Dell RecoverPoint can be improved by virtualizing it, which would use less storage and enhance performance."
"Integration with VMware is the only thing we need to improve. Another feature I'd like to see is the ability to convert management to HTML. And the integration should also be done on the same level."
"RecoverPoint is designed to integrate seamlessly with Dell EMC storage. If you don't have Dell EMC storage, you can't use it with other brands like IBM or HP."
"The interfaces could be improved for better ease of use. There's also room for improvement in direct compatibility with other solutions."
"Considering the speed Dell RecoverPoint can recover data, it would be good if we could replicate data from on-premise to the cloud with this solution."
"Dell RecoverPoint is affordable for enterprises but not for mid-size organizations due to the required network investment for bandwidth across sites."
"The product should provide integration with new products."
"Slow GUI on remote sites."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The price is moderate."
"Support is an additional subscription."
"RecoverPoint came free as an add-on to the PowerProtect Data Manager backup software from Dell EMC."
"While I recommend Dell EMC, it depends on your specific use case. Licensing is perpetual, meaning you buy it once."
"It is considered quite costly."
"The product is fairly priced."
