Room For Improvement

Domo struggles with pricing, interface, and data issues, needing better visualizations, support, ETL, AI, and customization features.
MicroStrategy needs improved modeling, visualization, usability, cloud integration, support, and pricing to enhance smaller organizations' adoption.
End users require a license to run their own reports and dashboards, which are fairly expensive.

Some technical aspects such as Beast Mode calculation could be improved in Domo, as it would provide more clarity and help in giving insights to clients or customer business team requirements.
Senior Engineer at a tech services company with 10,001+ employees
One of the areas where we've had frustrations with Domo is the aesthetics. The aesthetics are quite limited compared to other BI tools such as Tableau and Power BI.
Analytics Manager at KOKO Networks
Creating hierarchies and the modeling part is challenging because data modeling is one of the most important aspects of any BI project.
Data Engineer at a insurance company with 10,001+ employees
Organizations that are well-established and have more money can afford MicroStrategy, but startups and mid-level organizations who do not have this much budget have to opt for other cheaper tools.

MicroStrategy could learn from Power BI's user-friendly interface.
Technical Analyst at Allianz

Setup Cost

Domo offers flexible, negotiable pricing, often high but justified by integrated features, comparable to tools like Tableau.
MicroStrategy's high pricing is due to licensing costs, though long-term benefits exist; licensing complexity concerns users.
Domo's pricing is high compared to other BI tools, and it is costly.
Senior Engineer at a tech services company with 10,001+ employees
For long-time users, it can become expensive, but the trade-off is access to the entire platform instead of licensing different components separately.

They quoted approximately one dollar per KB.
Assistant Manager at a tech services company with 10,001+ employees

MicroStrategy excels in flexibility, scalability, and user-friendly reporting, supporting large data volumes with strong security and Visual Insights features.
App Studio is valuable because it allows all the customization we needed; we can decode it, with the view and grid which are all I need, drill-downs, and everything can be done the way I need it.
Senior Engineer at a tech services company with 10,001+ employees
None of the other tools provide the kind of support that enables chatting and working on the same item simultaneously.

The most effective features of MicroStrategy for data analysis in my experience are the security, the metadata management, and the administration, along with the options of different workarounds available to accommodate different types of requirements.

Have improved workflow efficiency through custom reports but encountered formatting limitations
The downsides of Domo are that we don't have a feature in the same column. When data comes in a time format, text format, and number format, we cannot segregate and create conditional formatting in that column. If in the future they develop this feature, it will benefit more users. Domo requires maintenance on my end, such as updates. I am maintaining some dashboards on a weekly basis and monthly basis daily reports. Because we need to upload in SFTP, we cannot schedule or auto-schedule due to rate purposes. We manually handle the data sets. If there were an option to reduce the cost, it would be easier to access.

Reporting on insurance finances has become robust and supports detailed geo-spatial analysis
I am quite satisfied with the reporting part of the product. However, compared to other tools, the modeling part is not as strong. Data modeling is not as easy on MicroStrategy as it is on other platforms. I have worked with the administration tool and the Architect tool for MicroStrategy, but creating a star schema is not as easy compared to other tools. Creating hierarchies and the modeling part is challenging because data modeling is one of the most important aspects of any BI project. If you can create a star schema or Snowflake schema easily, then report building becomes straightforward. Additionally, MicroStrategy's Workstation tool compared to Developer still lacks some functionality that can be done more easily on the Developer side. Workstation is a great tool, but they have not given it full functionality.
