Efficient mobile surveys with a simple setup but room for cloud improvements
As of now, almost everything is there and suitable for site requirements. However, the cloud takes a lot of time to upload the site survey, and we regularly face issues with syncing to the optimizer. There needs to be improvement in this area. Additionally, the product can be very expensive.

Saves us plenty of time and resources
I only need a small portion of what this solution includes. There should be a way to purchase specific parts of this solution — it's only the appliance that I want. Also, as it's quite a specialized tool, I think they should try and make it easier to use for people who are not very tech-savvy. The software is not very easy to install. In the next release, we should be able to connect to the equipment via a web browser. This would make it easier to download and install files. Currently, it's only compatible with Windows; it's not compatible with Mac and Linux. If we could connect via a browser, perhaps any OS would be sufficient.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We are satisfied with the way this product is working."
"The product is mature and provides ease of use regarding large-scale planning and reporting."
"We reviewed the maps as a team and determined if any changes needed to be made or if we could just replace APs as they are. We got into this by upgrading our access points to Meraki, and we wanted to make sure that we weren't leaving trouble behind us as we were doing it."
"Ekahau lets you create heat maps without doing the initial survey. It makes the task easier."
"Customer service is excellent; always there to answer questions or assist with an issue; very open to feedback on how to improve the product."
"I don't handle the software that much. I'll do some of the testing with our CTO. It is primarily him and I. He has commented before that he likes the fact that with two licenses, we can set it up so that when we're on a large facility, he can see where I am and I can see where he is. That's for sure is very handy in large venues."
"Channel planning, access points' auto position, and the size of the spectrum are valuable to me."
"The troubleshooting tools are the most valuable feature of the solution."
"With this solution, I can evaluate an access point in one day — this saves us a lot of time and resources."

Cons

"Lacks an in-app photo app or a way to upload photos while carrying out an active onsite survey."
"I wish we could have an "offline" version of Ekahau in order to give the customer some kind of interactive report where he could find all the measured values."
"We were actually able to recover some access points in some areas that were over saturated. So I I can leave at least two areas where we probably had twice as many access points as we needed to. So we actually redesigned it and pulled some of those access points where I don't know that there was any proper planning done when they were initially deployed. It was before my time, but it just seemed way over saturated, and they were all beaten on each other. So Site wasn't helping. It was probably hurting, and we saved equipment that we could then deploy somewhere else. This can be improved."
"The stability has just been really bad lately."
"It is somewhat expensive to renew the licenses every year. Obviously, most places can't maintain that."
"This tool needs too many of the resources (RAM) of your PC."
"It would be better if it provided clear visibility. It would be better if it accommodated large physical sites like a warehouse with a ceiling height of more than twelve to fifteen feet. In such situations, we were unable to provide better coverage."
"The information regarding the clients and signal strengths is missing in the Ekahau console."
"Currently, it's only compatible with Windows; it's not compatible with Mac and Linux. If we could connect via a browser, perhaps any OS would be sufficient."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The pricing could be lower because the Huawei radial planning is free for the partner. When I asked my boss about buying Ekahau and the USB key, it was complicated because of the high cost, which is €5,000."
"The solution is priced fairly for the features that you receive."
"The product is quite expensive."
"This solution is not cheap. If you only need an occasional site survey, you are better off contracting a wireless engineering professional that has one."
"We pay a licensing fee."
"The pricing is high."
"We pay $6,000 yearly for the licensing, but each piece of hardware, the Ekahau Sidekick, is $5,000."
"Ekahau Site Survey is a really expensive solution."
"The price fluctuates quite a bit — it should be more stable."
