Uniquely unified the hardware in a very smart way and led to improved performance
Security features do exist, and they're mostly common with other switches. What makes these switches unique is the ability to see application layers on the switch, but not directly through the switch. There are tools from Extreme Networks that allow visibility of such traffic, which other switches lack. Extreme CloudIQ analytics can analyze all the traffic on Extreme Switches up to layer seven, offering full visibility. However, this tool is necessary for such detailed analytics and might not be compatible with some third-party products. Improvements are always possible. One suggestion from a customer about Universal switches was to merge the two operating systems into one to create a new, unified OS, but that would take a lot of time and might affect stability. Juniper did that with their firmware and faced customer issues. So, creating a new OS is a tough call. From Enterasys Campus Compass, they're doing well, but the Data Center Switches aren't. Data Center switches, like Extreme Switching for data center networks. Those are separate categories from the Campus Switches.

Amazon RDS is easy to use. It is somewhat pricier but manageable. It has easy tasks and integrates smoothly with frontend components. When using IDE services such as PgAdmin, the installation steps are straightforward. The availability is also high, which is why we use it. It offers easy scalability and migration between different configurations. RDS performs well overall. The main consideration is pricing, which is higher compared to alternatives such as DigitalOcean. For backup and restore operations, it takes slightly longer - approximately 2-3 minutes compared to 2 minutes with other providers. There are also more steps to follow compared to other service providers. The installation process is straightforward with no complex requirements. Users can directly select their desired database, memory requirements, and port numbers without complications.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Enterasys Campus LAN Switches is a trustable and powerful solution. The solution has good web management features. You can do whatever you want, like a CLI. The solution is easy to diagnose and manage. I like the Linux-based operating system. If any service crashes, you need to restart the system."
"The performance is good."
"Extreme Networks is the only one that has this kind of universal switch. It simplifies things greatly. Customers no longer have to worry about the price differences between traditional and fabric technology switches, which used to have their own pricing. This has made it easier for us as solution providers to tailor options for our customers with fewer but more suitable choices."
"What I really like about HP ProCurve is the lifetime warranty."
"The product's stability is good. Stability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten."
"It gives us the single-point visibility across the whole infrastructure that's quite important to us."
"It's easy to manage and configure. The configurations can be exported and imported to another solution."
"It does what we want and it is reliable."
"The pricing is quite competitive."
"The network management solutions that they have is great."
"It is stable, and it fulfills our needs. We have all the functions we need, so we're totally satisfied."

Cons

"While the support is good, it could be better, and the price could be reduced."
"The tool's price is high. We need a cost-effective service. It also needs to add wireless controller features like Huawei."
"Security features do exist, and they're mostly common with other switches. "HPE ProCurve's web interface is old, and I have to log in on each device separately, making them the product's shortcomings that need improvement."
"The user interface (UI) could be better."
"The solution should offer different gigabit interfaces. Right now, they have ten gigabits. However, for our needs, we only need one gigabit. We don't need 24 or 48 ports. We only need eight to ten. HPE should introduce into their portfolio some smaller and more compact options."
"I would like to see integration with HPE OneView."
"The interface we have could be better."
"The solution doesn't have web-based management, which is why we've moved to a different solution."
"If you make a change and you disconnect yourself from the switch, you will create an issue."
"One of the weakest points of this solution is its on-premise. We are not able to do all we need to with the CLI."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The price itself is good, but the economic crisis is causing them to raise prices occasionally."
"In general, the price could be improved."
"The licensing for HPE ProCurve is a one-time cost, though it's varied somewhat. What my company purchased was usually between $3,500 and $5,000 one-time cost."
"This is an expensive switch."
"We have an annual support subscription."
"The price of HPE ProCurve is very good."
"The price of HPE ProCurve can be reasonable. However, it depends on the use case. They could improve the pricing model."
"We are a public company, so we are obliged to take the best offer from the vendors. They gave us the best price for the needs we had. It was considerably less than Cisco. It had maybe 40% lower cost."
"The price could be more competitive."
"You buy the switch and that's it."
