Identity workflows have delivered strong governance but remain complex to install and customize
I would describe the installation of Oracle Identity Governance on-premises as quite complex. Very complex. To install the product, it took us maybe three or four days to get it up and running just to go through the installation procedures. I repeated the same exercise in 2017 because I also migrated from 11c to 12c. That was the migration in 2017 that I managed. The migration took a long time. It took two to three years to be able to literally migrate all the code that I had. So it was quite complex. To summarize it quickly, I would describe the product as complete, very powerful, and very capable. However, it is extremely complex because Oracle relies on their own framework to customize and develop and fine-tune the functionalities. It is not Java, it is not some public framework. It is Java-based more or less, but it has their own Oracle framework for development and that makes the product quite complex to harness.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"For the time when we have to implement re-certification for special accounts this was the best for our requirements."
"Rich authorization engine for delegated adminRobust workflow capability with BPML engineExtensive connector supportDiagnostics are pretty good"
"OIM eliminates the need for manual creation of users and assigning of various resources."
"Application access is provided to and removed from end users in a timely manner, which removes delays in the on-boarding/off-boarding process and also improves productivity and security."
"It helped us reduce the user management cost, and strengthen IT security by reducing the risk."
"Role-based access control (RBAC) has been crucial for role-based management in my current company. Granular access restrictions based on role-based policies were beneficial."
"The organizational benefit is increased efficiency and simplicity so that we can manage the identity lifecycle faster and better, and so we can govern the access from a central place and make it easier."
"The most important feature is the connectors, and auditing is also a very good feature."
"Oracle Identity Management enables organizations to manage the entire life cycle of user identities across all resources in the organization while automating user provisioning and deprovisioning."

Cons

"Performance tuning should be better."
"Oracle Identity Governance is a thick, heavy application and has fewer application connectors compared to SailPoint, which offers a large number of out-of-box connectors, making integration easier."
"It's very poor, just 3/10."
"The solution should be easy to implement with components combined in one file and built-in features to integrate target applications without having to install additional connectors."
"I am not currently recommending the product to clients because there are other good products on the market that can be implemented and used in their environments with minimal customization."
"We see a lot of Java exceptions in logs The task scheduler often doesn’t work. It loses its connection with BBDD clusters."
"Once it is up and running it's okay, but it has many bumps. They are always putting out fixes, but it's hard to get implemented without patching, so it's not great."
"The cost of this product needs to be reduced."
"Attempted to model a hierarchical role model but the OIM Access Policies, which map roles to entitlements, don't provision entitlements from inherited roles. This is a flawed design, IMO, limiting you to a flat role model."
