Identity workflows have delivered strong governance but remain complex to install and customize
I would describe the installation of Oracle Identity Governance on-premises as quite complex. Very complex. To install the product, it took us maybe three or four days to get it up and running just to go through the installation procedures. I repeated the same exercise in 2017 because I also migrated from 11c to 12c. That was the migration in 2017 that I managed. The migration took a long time. It took two to three years to be able to literally migrate all the code that I had. So it was quite complex. To summarize it quickly, I would describe the product as complete, very powerful, and very capable. However, it is extremely complex because Oracle relies on their own framework to customize and develop and fine-tune the functionalities. It is not Java, it is not some public framework. It is Java-based more or less, but it has their own Oracle framework for development and that makes the product quite complex to harness.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"For the time when we have to implement re-certification for special accounts this was the best for our requirements."
"This solution has improved the organization in several ways, including saving many help-desk password-reset calls, IT staff productivity, and quicker user on-boarding."
"The capability of writing a custom connector makes this product flexible enough to potentially reach all types of target systems."
"One thing for sure, is that it is the most comprehensive solution out there in the market."
"It has a very good response time."
"OIM is the right product and it is a good fit for enterprise deployments."
"Oracle Identity Manager (OIM) really stands out in user account creation, provisioning, SSO, and compliance support, with granular self-service functions that can be customized to suit an organization's needs and extended by building and integrating what you cannot find out of the box."
"Rich authorization engine for delegated adminRobust workflow capability with BPML engineExtensive connector supportDiagnostics are pretty good"
"Because OIM has a Java API, you can develop scripts and automate tasks, and integration with other products written in Java is easy, more or less."

Cons

"Performance tuning should be better."
"The process of integrating with target systems can be simplified. Setting up a connector is a cumbersome process involving several interfaces, configuration objects, etc."
"The user interface experience needs to be improved."
"With Oracle, it's always about the learning curve and the nature of how the product is integrated."
"I would like to see more segregation managed through Oracle Identity Manager."
"Everybody's been moving onto the cloud, and it's not a cloud-based solution."
"Customer Service: 4/10 for Australian customer service. It seems like Oracle customer service does not know its product as well as I know it."
"I did not give it 10 out of 10 because of the time it takes for new versions to mature before they are bug free. The product is excessively resource intensive (i.e., hardware requirements) especially in the later versions."
"OIA needs to improve its governance features."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"Oracle Identity Governance is expensive."
"Oracle licenses are expensive. I suggest making pricing and licensing decisions that align with architectural requirements and the project's budget."
"I can't say much about the pricing for Oracle Identity Governance because it's different from one geography to another. In India, the license price costs less than in other geographies."
"I do not know specific pricing but the product is expensive when compared to other OIM products."
"The licensing is expensive."
"The cost of support and upgrading to the next release are both expensive."
"Price-wise, the tool is a little bit costly."
"The price of the implementation of Oracle Identity Governance is more of a concern than the cost of the solution. The effort that you have to do to put the solution in place is higher than the license cost."
