Has accelerated data integration workflows and supports seamless development of custom connectors
I've worked extensively with Fivetran, mainly used for extraction purposes, and I've worked with the transformation element in it as well. Fivetran not only has built-in connectors but also provides SDK connectors, allowing us to develop our own connectors in an easy manner. I don't have to write raw Python scripts or dumping scripts; it offers straightforward examples and guidelines, making it much simpler to develop custom connectors inside Fivetran. We've been able to develop many custom connectors as well, which is unique and beneficial for having everything centralized instead of having those connectors located elsewhere. One of the best features by Fivetran is its clean, simple, and intuitive UI. It includes a transformation section where I can deploy my DBT queries and scripts. It also supplies good tracking capabilities for billing estimates and user permissions, allowing for customization to the desired level. The number of connectors it has remains a standout feature, and within connectors, the options available are very helpful. Although it sometimes appears static due to its built-in nature, it offers good flexibility for data transformation and caching, which I appreciate because it saves us extensive script-writing time.

A well-established product that meets all our specifications in terms of usability
In the initial stage when we went with Data Integrator Cloud Service it was primarily the nativity factor that was key for us. Having a single vendor supporting the entire suite of applications, and the ability to configure activities and direct integration with various other Oracle products, were the main attractive features within ODI. This is a well-established product that's good to have if you hold an Oracle suite of applications. It meets all our specifications in terms of usability.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"We would have to hire multiple data engineers to do what Fivetran does and each would cost us about $200,000 a year."
"Fivetran offers native connectivity with Sybase"
"Overall, I would rate Fivetran nine out of ten."
"Fivetran's most valuable feature is replication."
"Fivetran is an easy-to-deploy solution for organizations looking at integrating a wide variety of data sources."
"Its arrays are powerful enough to handle migrations even when the replication is happening in the background, without causing any trouble with the ongoing traffic."
"The compare feature is the most valuable piece of it."
"The most valuable feature of Fivetran is that it only synchronizes what needs to be synchronized."
"The solution is very stable and it's great once you get it working correctly."
"The data is stored in the cloud, making it easy to download data simultaneously into multiple smaller servers, effectively downsizing the process."
"Oracle integration cloud has got the adapters for all their products, which makes the integration a little faster and makes it easier to implement the integration quickly."
"Having a single vendor supporting the entire suite of applications."
"Oracle Data Integrator helps us build tables and data marts and allows us to schedule them daily, for nearly real-time data warehousing."
"This is a well-established product that's good to have if you hold an Oracle suite of applications."
"The most valuable thing to me is its simplicity. A person with zero knowledge can also develop the integration without having extensive technology knowledgebase. They can also work on creating their own integration."
"The solution is easy to manage and offers good integration. You can run all the tasks one by one which is really helpful, and pick the day and time to do so."

Cons

"I would like Fivetran to implement additional resource monitoring and restriction policies."
"If Fivetran can build in more transformations, that would be really helpful in my opinion."
"Some of the pain points we're looking at are trying to integrate some of the items in the Microsoft stack, so SharePoint and Excel, and then some of the newer Azure services."
"The environment must be more development-friendly."
"The solution is very expensive. I would like to have a better integration of the solution with Azure."
"The experience of using SDK connectors can be improved, as it lacks computational power, which is an area that needs enhancement."
"We use a separate tool for "reverse ETL", which is the opposite of what Fivetran does; it pushes data from your data warehouse back out to business applications. If Fivetran pulls data from those same applications, they should also enable users to push it back. I would love to do both ETL and reverse ETL in the same tool."
"The documentation can be laid out better to make it easier to find things, and I really wish there was built-in support for changing passwords. Some features don't work as advertised for the platform/repository database, and HVR is not always the fastest at getting results."
"The solution is expensive."
"I would like to see different cloud adapters or connectors in case of integration. When you have Oracle to Oracle, they are good. They have really good connectors, but if it is a different ERP, like Obsidian, that is where they are faced with problems in OIC."
"The pricing could be more competitive."
"I've found technical support not very effective. They should work to improve their services."
"This is an expensive solution compared to other products on the market."
"It's lacking a lot of mapping features that Oracle OSB and SOA have. It needs to evolve a lot."
"It can be made much easier for users. They should be allowed to easily monitor the data extraction and flow, allowing them to observe real-time data flow within the software, making the process straightforward."
"The solution could be improved when it comes to bulk uploading; there are problems with it when you hit the upper limit."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I would say they're a little bit on the expensive side, and their contract process is not particularly good, but there is a lot of potential flexibility."
"Fivetran is very expensive, and its database-driven pricing model is outdated."
"I've heard that the license for HVR is a bit costly compared to its competitors, but since it's reliable and efficient, I think the customer shouldn't be bothered about the cost."
"I don't have the exact information, but I know it is high, and it is on a yearly basis. There is no additional cost for what we're doing. We're always open to doing things cheaper, so we might potentially implement a different solution."
"When you have a lot of workflows and complex use cases, pricing goes down as you use it more."
"The licensing costs are extremely high for the usage of somebody who has one GB or two GB of usage per day for real-time traffic. There are many other players in the market which are similarly priced or competitively priced. On average per month, it used to come around 12,000-15,000 USD, which is very high."
"The pricing model is okay and mid to large companies will not have an issue with it."
"In the first year, we were given a very good discount. It was approximately 20,000 Euros per year. In the third year, we purchased credit for two years and the price was 33,000 Euros per year."
"The price is competitive compared to Boomi which is much higher."
