SAP Data Services and Fivetran are key players in the data integration and management category. While SAP Data Services offers robust integration with SAP systems and complex ETL processes, Fivetran stands out with its ease of use and extensive data pipeline automation.
Features: SAP Data Services boasts seamless integration with SAP systems and supports diverse connectivity options, making it ideal for complex data transformations. It provides strong data quality management and broad database processing. Fivetran simplifies data integration with managed pipelines and pre-built connectors, facilitating rapid integration with many data sources. It focuses on automating data pipeline processes and efficient data replication.
Room for Improvement: SAP Data Services could enhance flexibility by improving connectivity with non-SAP systems and refining its interface for better usability. Performance issues in big data integrations and simplified scheduling processes need attention. Fivetran could benefit from expanding its connector range and offering more data transformation and customization options. Users also desire better observability of data pipelines and enhanced real-time data streaming support.
Ease of Deployment and Customer Service: SAP Data Services is designed for on-premises setups but supports private and hybrid clouds. Its customer service has mixed reviews, with noted delays despite effective problem resolution. Fivetran operates on the public cloud, praised for its quick and straightforward deployment process. Its customer service is generally responsive, although users seek improved documentation and troubleshooting guidance.
Pricing and ROI: SAP Data Services is priced at a premium, appealing to medium and large enterprises, and offers significant ROI through its comprehensive integration capabilities. Fivetran employs a usage-based pricing model that becomes more cost-effective with increased data volume. It may be costly for organizations with limited data sources, but it provides flexibility and solid ROI through minimized manual workload and streamlined data processes.
Fivetran provides time savings, cost reductions, and improvements in data quality.
It saves us the effort of having one to two data engineers managing the tasks that Fivetran handles.
SAP is indeed good at all this now, with so many components such as SAP Signavio, SAP EINS, SAP Work Zone, SAP ALM, Cloud ALM, SAP public cloud, SAP private cloud, and BTP, all of which are essential to meet the latest cutting-edge technologies.
If they could provide support more quickly, that would be great.
The technical support provided by Fivetran has generally been good, with a response time and competence that I would rate as good.
Customer support from Fivetran is quite good; it's really nice and responsive.
If you keep a high priority issue, such as a production impact, they certainly come and address it in no time.
Unlike level one where they basically search for the notes and provide responses, level two and level three are much better.
Fivetran's scalability has been tested effectively, and it has been working well for our organization's growing data needs.
If I were to rate it from one to 10, I would say it has a nine to 10 for scalability.
They have 99.9% accuracy on the data load and they maintain transparency.
In my experience, Fivetran is stable with very few instances of downtime or reliability issues.
During the duration of the time that we used Fivetran, it was highly stable.
I would rate the stability of SAP Data Services as very stable, a ten.
From a cost perspective, if the number of connectors is lesser, then Fivetran is not the most cost-efficient option.
When we tried to use a built-in Oracle connector, it didn't allow for the tweaks we needed, which led us to the SDK connector route and caused delays in development.
Fivetran could improve by adapting more for technical users and by providing more options for such users.
Now, they are coming up with many pricing options, which is tricky; they offer one thing for free, but charge for nine others.
SAP Data Services does handle integration with third-party systems.
The documentation is not up to the mark.
Our current yearly contract for Fivetran is approximately $70,000.
The most valuable feature of Fivetran is its built-in connectors for a wide range of data sources.
The real-time data replication is what I see best in the market where it reduces the overhead of customers needing to maintain the pipeline.
Fivetran not only has built-in connectors but also provides SDK connectors, allowing us to develop our own connectors in an easy manner.
SAP Data Services is mainly used for extraction of data, and it works with all databases.
I really appreciate the many custom functions that exist and the ease of connecting to different SAP connections.
