Remote access has become seamless and secure while deployment remains simple for our users
Performance could be improved today. People are now moving toward SASE, which stands for Secure Access, Secure Edge Solution. Fortinet also has that offering, which would be easier since it operates through the cloud, acting as a first line of defense. When the user connects to the internet, they connect to the cloud first for posture assessment and monitoring before connecting to the outside world. The impact is significant because nowadays people are adopting SASE. During COVID time, many users were trying to connect back to their office, causing the performance or CPU utilization of the firewall to increase tremendously, which slowed down performance. I have not worked with endpoint telemetry in Fortinet FortiClient that could have been helpful for threat mitigation.

A stable solution that is easy to set up and offers high download speeds
The problem with the solution is that most of the time, it uses a certain IP address that does not change much. If I'm using a different country, like Germany, it still uses the same IP address, and the downside is that this doesn't work well with services like Netflix because Netflix realizes that I'm using a VPN.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"This is a solid and stable solution."
"It is not at all interesting for me as a standalone product, but as a product that is integrated with FortiGate with all features, it is actually a great tool and a great experience."
"The most valuable feature of FortiClient is its high security level."
"It is not at all interesting for me as a standalone product, but as a product that is integrated with FortiGate with all features, it is actually a great tool and a great experience. I had test installed FortiClient working from home. I remembered and knew which web categories were denied or allowed. All those policies were correctly reflected standalone, for example, on my laptop."
"EMS central reporting with fabric connectivity to FortiGate and FortiAnalyser is great and has seamless integration which makes managing 3000 devices a breeze and remediation a Hollywood movie."
"We use the net UTM feature, which synchronizes with our office UTM and allows us to block URLs."
"The interface of Fortinet FortiClient is clean and easy to use."
"It’s really easy to use."
"l like the high download speed of the solution. Of course, it depends on which country you're using, but most countries are fast, and the solution doesn't limit your internet speed very much."
"I like the high download speed of the solution, and while it depends on which country you're using, most countries are fast, and the solution doesn't limit your internet speed very much."

Cons

"There is lagging in some of the authentication tools to support the newer versions, this is happening because they are not supported."
"The pricing is not cheaper compared to competitors. For price satisfaction, it rates at seven out of ten and could be improved."
"The solution could improve by providing analytics or detailed reports."
"The solution can initially be a pain for new users and may take around two weeks for one to properly familiarize himself with it."
"One challenge we faced was with the installation."
"The support can be improved. They have room to improve by deploying more support resources."
"The solution could add data to the endpoint."
"I heard that Fortinet is going to enhance the firmware to have mobile versions. One is like Linux long-term support SCS and one with new features, but there is no support here. We spoke with the vendor multiple times, and they said that they will release these features soon."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The cost per port is very less as compared to the other technologies."
"The price is okay and competitive."
"I don't have the licensing schema for the VPN solution because we just purchased the VPN gateway."
"Anyone can download this product for free, but you have to have a FortiGate gateway that you are connecting to."
"The price of the solution depends on the type of firewall you have from FortiGate. I am satisfied with the price of the solution."
"I don't know it by heart, but it is comparable to other solutions. It is based on the number of clients. It is probably 50 Euros per year per client. It greatly depends on the number of clients you're handling because the more clients you are ordering it for, the cheaper it will be."
"An annual license costs about 1.5 to 3,000 US dollars. There are no additional costs."
"It is not that expensive. It was within the range. A dollar per user per month is nothing."
"My licensing cost is about 80 euros a year, which I find very reasonable because I can use the solution on up to three devices and share it with other people."
