Comprehensive monitoring boosts security, yet incident management features need expansion
Fortinet FortiSIEM should broaden its remediation part to include more features for incident management. Currently, to manage repetitive incidents or for remediation, I need to use a separate software called FortiSOAR. Additionally, the search functionality in FortiAI should be improved to provide more precise results, making it easier for me to understand what actions need to be taken.

A highly scalable solution that is easy to manage and super easy to set up
We use Snare for picking up Windows logs, and we used to use it for SQL as well. We had used it for Linux once or twice. We're mainly using it for Windows and Windows flat files The most valuable feature of Snare is flexibility or the ability to filter all things you don't want and don't have…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Both the collecting logs and duo correlation are valuable features for us."
"It provides extensive logging and record-keeping for internal networks, cloud applications, and services as well as perimeter physical network security."
"The most valuable feature of Fortinet FortiSIEM is the correlation of many events."
"It is used as an alerting platform."
"It gives greater visibility via the dashboards into the real-time status of the network and also provides specific alerts and performance monitoring."
"FortiSIEM's stability is quite good."
"It's easy to manage. There's a web interface and a command line, depending on what the user is comfortable with. There's a large knowledge base available, and the support is timely."
"These aspects make Fortinet FortiSIEM a valuable choice."
"The best thing about Snare is its format and consistency."
"The most valuable feature of Snare is flexibility or the ability to filter all things you don't want and don't have security value."
"Snare has good agents, especially for Windows."

Cons

"The backup and recovery process for this solution needs improvement. I would like to see a database with more structure in terms of maintenance and ease of use."
"Improvements include making it easier for users to create their normalizers. Fortinet FortiSIEM uses XML for normalizing and parsing, which can be tedious and time-consuming. A simpler way of using regex could be helpful."
"The dashboards need to be improved. It gives you so much detail, but sometimes too much detail, especially to an executive, it's too much."
"The interface needs some improvements because it's a bit cumbersome when you're trying to view items. It takes some time to get used to. Additionally, sometimes the scrolling does not work."
"Areas for improvement would be the ease of use and the integration with Fortinet's own products."
"The product does not have Security Orchestration and Automation Response, I would recommend adding this feature."
"The biggest thing that could be better is a quicker response to support cases."
"Our customers are noticing configuration available in the GUI interface and I think that they should be equal."
"The solution is now developing a SIEM-like feature on Snare Central Server, but it's not complete yet."
"Users will initially find it difficult to identify the event types and installation in Snare."
"Snare should modernize its GUI a little bit."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The solution is available for both, perpetual and subscription licenses."
"There is a need to make yearly payments towards the licensing charges attached to the product. The free version license of the product is available for two months."
"Fortinet FortiSIEM is cheaper compared to other products."
"We pay for a license for FortiSIEM. We pay for the license and renewal."
"Fortinet's products are not expensive, it is less than the competition."
"This is probably more on the lower cost end of the spectrum compared to competing products. Fortinet's license model is based on events per second, which makes sense, but that's not typical. It makes it very hard to calculate what your costs are going to be as you scale the platform because some log sources, such as firewall logs, are very noisy, and there are lots and lots of events per second, but some of them are not. So, it becomes a bit of a science experiment trying to guess what your costs are going to be as you scale the solution. This is where other competing products perhaps have a more straightforward license model."
"Fortinet FortiSIEM is not an expensive solution."
"The price of the solution is expensive. The license is scalable. If there are 10 devices it is simple to license."
"On a scale from one to ten, where one is cheap, and ten is expensive, I rate Snare's pricing a four out of ten."
"Snare is a cheap solution because a lot of customers are using it."
"Snare has reasonable pricing."
