Improved agility and time to market with CI/CD enhancements
The CI/CD pipelines in GitLab ( /products/gitlab-reviews ) are highly valuable. Another important feature is the single source of repository, allowing efficient repository management and source code management. GitLab provides manageability by allowing us to manage source code effectively through separate repositories. Additionally, GitLab enables the creation of individual CI/CD pipelines for each repository, making software more agile. By integrating GitLab as a DevOps platform, we have enhanced agility, improved our time to market, and different teams can work collaboratively on various projects.

Effective scanning of diverse file extensions with fast reporting and issue resolution
We develop software packages for clients, and these clients are mostly in the BFSI sector. The packages need to be scanned, and we engage Fortify WebInspect for this.  Customers typically perform their own application pen tests, but in some cases, we have engagements where customers want us to scan…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I like GitLab's security and SAS tools."
"The solution's most valuable feature is that it is compatible with GitHub. The product's integration capabilities are sufficient for our small company of 35 people."
"GitLab has better support, and its features are superior compared to Jenkins."
"GitLab's best feature is Actions."
"I like that it's easy to deploy our services over GitLab. The customer support is also good with a really active community. You have a lot of support that you can get online with your stack. That is probably one of the benefits of using GitLab. It's also really fast."
"It is very flexible and easy because you can store data on cloud."
"GitLab's best features are continuous integration and fast deployment."
"The solution makes the CI/CD pipelines easy to execute."
"The tool provides comprehensive vulnerability assessments which help ensure our deliverables are as free from vulnerabilities as possible. It has also streamlined our web application vulnerability assessments, assisting us in delivering secure applications to our clients."
"Technical support has been good."
"Fortify WebInspect is a scalable solution, it is good for a lot of applications."
"The user interface is ok and it is very simple to use."
"The most valuable feature is the static analysis."
"It's a well-known platform for doing dynamic application scanning."
"When we are integrating it with SSC, we're able to scan and trace and see all of the vulnerabilities. Comparison is easy in SSC."
"Guided Scan option allows us to easily scan and share reports."

Cons

"In the next release, I would like to see GitLab expand its integration capabilities to include platforms like DigitalOcean, which developers widely use for cloud infrastructure. Enhancing CI/CD automation features specifically tailored for DigitalOcean would be beneficial."
"GitLab doesn't have AWS integration. It would be better to have integration with other container management environments beyond Kubernetes. It has very good integration with Kubernetes, but it doesn't have good integration with, for example, AWS, ETS, etc."
"GitLab can improve the integration with third-party applications. It could be made easier. Additionally, having API control from my application could be helpful."
"I used Spring Cloud config and to connect that to GitLab was so hard."
"GitLab could add a plugin to integrate with Kubernetes stuff."
"We have only seen a couple of issues on Gitlab, which we use for building some of the applications."
"GitLab's Windows version is yet not available and having this would be an improvement."
"I don't really like the new Kubernetes integration because it is pretty focused on the on-premise environment, but we're in a hybrid environment."
"Fortify WebInspect could improve user-friendliness. Additionally, it is very bulky to use."
"I want to enhance automation. Currently, Fortify WebInspect can scan and find vulnerabilities, but users with specific skills need to interpret the results and understand how to address them."
"Our biggest complaint about this product is that it freezes up, and literally doesn't work for us."
"Creating reports is very slow and it is something that should be improved."
"The main area for improvement in Fortify WebInspect is the price, as it is too high compared to the market rate."
"Not sufficiently compatible with some of our systems."
"A localized version, for example, in Korean would be a big improvement to this solution."
"It requires improvement in terms of scanning. The application scan heavily utilizes the resources of an on-premise server. 32 GB RAM is very high for an enterprise web application."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"GitLab is a free solution to use."
"The solution is based on a licensing model that includes technical support and is paid annually."
"This is an open-source solution."
"GitLab is cheap."
"I'm not aware of the licensing costs because those were covered by the customer."
"The solution is based on a subscription model and is reasonably priced."
"The price of GitLab could be better, it is expensive."
"Regarding pricing, I would rate GitLab as moderately priced, maybe around a seven or eight out of ten. It could be more flexible for clients but generally offers good value."
"This solution is very expensive."
"The price is okay."
"Its price is almost similar to the price of AppScan. Both of them are very costly. Its price could be reduced because it can be very costly for unlimited IT scans, etc. I'm not sure, but it can go up to $40,000 to $50,000 or more than that."
"It’s a fair price for the solution."
"The pricing is not clear and while it is not high, it is difficult to understand."
"Our licensing is such that you can only run one scan at a time, which is inconvenient."
"Fortify WebInspect is a very expensive product."
