Offers useful replication tools with potential for faster support responses
In my opinion, the best features of Hitachi TrueCopy include its ability to act similarly to a snapshot from any disk, from any LUN, and for fast data copying from production to test. We use Hitachi TrueCopy and Thin Image. Hitachi TrueCopy allows us to transfer data from one storage to another, for example, when we buy new storage, we transfer data, LUNs, and disks from one storage to another, and we also use Hitachi TrueCopy to transfer data from one site to another site. We transfer data through iSCSI. The Hitachi TrueCopy ability to customize replication strategies is a very useful tool for replication.

Reliable replication has transformed disaster recovery and supports realistic dev-test environments
The best feature NetApp SnapMirror offers is block-level incremental replication, which is the foundation of everything. After the initial baseline transfer, only the changed blocks move across the wire, not entire files or volumes. In a busy storage environment, that is the difference between replication that fits in your backup window and replication that hammers your network all day. NetApp SnapMirror has positively impacted our organization by taking us from a theoretical DR capability, meaning we had a secondary site but had never fully tested a failover, to a validated, tested, documented DR process that we run quarterly, which is a fundamental change in our risk posture. Management can now say with confidence that if the primary site goes down, we recover within two hours with zero data loss on critical systems.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Hitachi TrueCopy is very effective for transferring big data from one storage to another storage."
"The best features of Hitachi TrueCopy include its ability to act similarly to a snapshot from any disk, from any LUN, and for fast copy data from production to test."
"The solution is very stable."
"NetApp SnapMirror has positively impacted my organization because it is a very helpful feature for any organization that needs to create a DR site for disaster recovery."
"The solution is so reliable that managers of a company don't even need to bother about knowing how NetApp SnapMirror functions in their organization."
"A NetApp storage solution allows a company to architect a disaster recovery plan that protects all company data."
"With SnapMirror, the solution is the feature itself that is most valuable. It just replicates the data. It's very difficult to speak about, in the sense that it's similar to the features of a wheel. It is round and it's a part of an automobile."
"Previously, we were using a Windows-based file server and didn't have the high availability, replication to a secondary site, or snapshot capability, which is what we were looking for."
"It has been 100% stable."
"Administration of Netapp Snapmirror and Netapp Storage through CLI or Oncommand manager is the best."

Cons

"Technical support is indeed an area for improvement; Hitachi has very good hardware and the equipment is good, but the support and management monitoring are not as robust as IMC, IBM, and HP."
"There are some limitations when it comes to the scalability of the solution, but I don't know where the limitation is."
"Synchronous replication with read-write on both sides in both data centers is powerful but risky since it is greatly affected by high network latency."
"If they can make the application free like other vendors or include it in all the packages, it would be great."
"This process can get out of control sometimes and cause excessive disk utilization."
"The solution's dashboard and reporting could be improved."
"You need too many separate licenses for the features. Sometimes our customers choose other replication services because of the initial cost of the licenses."
"It is not as efficient as it needs to be. It doesn't compress the data really well when it is forwarded to a secondary site. The download performance could be better."
"I think that NetApp needs to improve the performance of SnapMirror with controller volume access."
