Provides great data loss recovery and real time replication
Deployment was very smooth and took around two weeks. Following that, we carried out our data migration which took time. We previously used a Windows file independent server with its own local disk and Windows OS. It's not compatible with NetApp so data had to be physically migrated. We also took extra time integrating with our antivirus software and configuring external tape libraries with NetApp. We had one staff member involved in the deployment and an engineer from our partners. We have close to 900 users. The solution requires routine tasks as opposed to maintenance. We have three or four people with access to this storage.

Efficiently complete large database snapshots quickly for reliable backup
The most valuable feature of NetApp Snapshot is its ability to complete a sixty-terabyte database snapshot in less than three minutes. This efficiency means we do not have to manage tape backups, which are time-consuming, and it uses less storage as snapshots are compressed. NetApp Snapshot is also easy to restore or copy to another location for disaster recovery. Overall, it has helped us meet our service level agreements due to its performance.

Cons

"We must be able to integrate Flash Pool with SnapMirror."
"At the moment, we are not using the synchronous mirror, but we can implement the synchronous mirror. The only thing is that it needs another license. This is the same issue we have with business continuity. It needs another license to be implemented. You need too many separate licenses for the features. They should add some of the aspects of the premium bundle into the basic bundle. Sometimes our customers choose other replication services because of the initial cost of the licenses."
"There is probably some limitations when it comes to the scalability of the solution."
"The tool should also work on third-party solutions."
"We have different families of storage, such as the E-Series and Flash systems, but NetApp cannot be set up between them."
"The price needs to be improved."
"The new coursework models need to be improved. The bandwidth monitoring could also be better."
"In the next release, I would like to see Data reduction included and WAN optimization."
"The solution could include more databases and make it accessible to the DBAs. The automation process should be run in a way where it could be run from the database itself."
"The price could be a bit lower."
"The company could update their products more regularly."
"The next release should include developments on the step center for purpose or bandwidth."
"I would like to see cloud features added to the next release of this solution."
"The initial setup of NetApp Snapshot is not straightforward. It's not something that you can do just by clicking on the next step button. It has to be designed and it has to be implemented according to your network capabilities and the use case scenario."
"NetApp Snapshot usually takes a lot of space on the volume, requiring manual removal. It should be more automated."
"NetApp needs to take a look at their pricing in comparison to the competition and make the appropriate change to attract more customers and gain in market share."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The pricing could be improved."
"The solution has monthly and yearly licensing options."
"The pricing can be improved."
"The cost is low compared to different vendors."
"The product price is reasonable."
"It's a highly cost-effective solution"
"It's part of the NetApp Firewall, so it's free."
"SnapMirror is extremely expensive. We had a hard time adjusting to our budget. If rated on a scale of one to ten, with ten being the most expensive, I would definitely rate it ten out of ten."
"The price of NetApp Snapshot depends on the use case. They charge by how much data you need, the capability, and for snap licenses."
"The price of the solution is reasonable but could improve. However, if you are in a country that has a poor currency then the price will be considered expensive."
"If there is a way to save more on the number of snapshots, it should be included in the next release."
"The price of this solution is fair."
"As far as their licensing costs, the licensing is paid on a yearly basis. The organization pays for the licensing based on the software and the capacity that they choose."
"Snapshot is free and comes with the NetApp storage software. It's purely free of cost."
"NetApp Snapshot is expensive since you need to buy an additional premium license for it which is an extra cost over the payments made for NetApp...The license works during the entire life cycle of NetApp Snapshot."
"It's not too expensive."
