Ease of use in data center boosts resilience and infrastructure efficiency
I find the HPE 3PAR StoreServ valuable for its ease of use and resilience, which is beneficial. The main benefits I have seen from having HPE 3PAR StoreServ include its use at a small branch I managed for about three years with around 60 users. It operates effectively because it is an HPE product we use there. I have not experienced any significant issues besides occasional IT-related ones, such as local database problems. Since handing over the administration of the system to someone else and moving to another department, there have not been any issues. There are many features that exist but I haven't needed to try. Before moving out of that role in my organization, I knew it was a product I enjoyed working with for infrastructure purposes. After completing my new role, I intend to return to infrastructure.

Has the ability to automatically deal with faulty disks
In terms of the most beneficial features of the product, I would say that during the faulty disk replacement process, the tool automatically ungroups the faulty disk, so from the tool itself, anybody can identify which disk is faulty and then repair it. The data replication part is not enabled in the product that I use since the DRP feature is not enabled. I work with the product's high availability feature. Considering the size of the environment where the product is used, the product offers around 80 to 90 TB of storage space. I won't recommend the product to others who plan to use it. The implementation process of the product would be as per the standard of the organization where it is going to be used. Everyone should have their own organizational data structure as per the data orientation needs. I rate the tool an eight out of ten.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The solution, stability, and the performance work well for us."
"I would definitely recommend it."
"Since we deployed 3PAR, there hasn't been any downtime, or other issue with stability."
"It was a smooth transition over."
"Previously, we were using EVA from HPE. When we moved to 3PAR, we noticed a reduction in footprint, reduced by more than 30%. We use the Adaptive Optimization, giving us a reduction in cost and with better performance."
"Switching from HDDs to SSDs, because of better performance (IOPS) and, hopefully, reliability."
"We've seen a huge improvement in processing times and coming from a traditional SAN over to the HP 3PAR all flash solution, we saw about a 90 percent reduction in the processing time to some of the batch processors that we were running, which for us is very, very huge."
"The initial setup was straightforward."
"It's fast, reliable, and it's very good for the price."
"My most important criteria when selecting a vendor are price, dedupe, and compression."
"We cannot stop this SAN array; it has never failed since it was started, and we have not had a problem with it at all."
"There have been no fail-stop failures for the last five years."
"The solution's most valuable feature is storage provisioning, which allows me to easily provision the disk space on the servers."
"It is very stable."
"HPE has reliable support for HDD replacement."

Cons

"The onsite techs have caused outages."
"During our migration we had a very choreographed timed execution of needing to transform virtual volumes from one level, from one tier to the next; AO wasn't necessarily getting us there."
"The cloud-based monitoring Infosight would be better if users are automatically enrolled in the cloud/group based on the configuration or information gathered or uploaded on the internet."
"We had a minor error when we were configuring this system, which initially detracted from its overall stability."
"Right now it is a big pain. It seems to work but we tend to get some latency behind."
"I would like to see more storage, a better interface, and to move from mechanical disks."
"The biggest area of improvement would be the cost."
"The solution lacks reliability."
"I faced some issues during the disk replacement process in HPE EVA."
"Performance could probably be improve with faster controllers, but it is already an old device. We do have performance problems now, but it is a rather old device, so we have what we have."
"Performance could probably be improve with faster controllers, but it is already an old device. We do have performance problems now, but it is a rather old device, so we have what we have."
"It could be just this particular model, but the storage is not so stable."
"In general, my boss feels that HPE's prices are very high."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"You need to properly assess your needs before buying the solution since there are chances of overpaying. The type of configuration that you choose can make the price go higher or lower."
"The price of the solution could be reduced for the license and for support."
"The licensing cost for HPE 3PAR StoreServ is expensive."
"Since the prices of the flash storage has gone down tremendously, I would definitely recommend going for the all-flash storage array or 3PAR. It is a big expensive even now, but it will be the future of all industries."
"This is not an expensive product but every time you add capacity to it, you need to pay for re-balancing."
"You can't get software maintenance from a third party. You have to do it from HPE, which is a letdown."
"We had to go back and purchase iLO licenses and brocade switches for the flex fabric to have a complete solution."
"The price of the license depends. Some people expect more from the hardware. Some expect more from the licensing, and that is because you can receive several licenses nowadays, such as the terabyte license. You buy the storage, and you pay extra for the terabyte license for the software. There is a one-time purchase for the license and you pay annually for the maintenance."

Measuring Up: EMC XtremIO and HP 3PAR
Leading up to EMC World 2015, IT Central Station asked how I would compare EMC XtremIO and HP 3PAR. Until recently, the flash storage conversation in my organization and many others has centered on XtremIO and Pure Storage, the leaders of the all-flash array (AFA) space. To that end, I've written a…
