Uninterrupted upgrades accelerate performance with good support
I would rate the solution eight out of ten. It should be noted that in Pakistan, some parts are not readily available, and we need to import them from Singapore or other countries. We encountered an issue with a customer where the midplane failed and was not available. We had to wait for several days for a replacement, even in a 24/7 support case. Additionally, we faced motherboard failures in the customer's environment, encountering two motherboard failures simultaneously. We obtained one motherboard immediately, yet had to wait ten days for another. These issues should have been resolved promptly given the 24/7 support level.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It has a really powerful tool to measure data, how it is working, the performance, and if we have any bottlenecks."
"The compression features are good."
"The chunklet technology is the main benefit out of 3PAR. The way it subdivides. It is using more logic to subdivide the drives into smaller pieces."
"The solution has helped our organization reduce time to deployment by about 60 to 70 percent, because I am able to spin up new systems within four to six hours, where it used to take me two to three days."
"It all works in concert using Recovery Manager Central (RMC). HPE coordinates it all, so it is more of a solution instead of products trying to do things together."
"The product stands on its own in heavy enterprise environments."
"It was the easiest SAN that I have ever set up."
"Remote-copy provides high availability and disaster recovery for the connected clients."
"The product includes features like Zero Trust and seamless integration with LDAP and Active Directory, which allows us to manage user access efficiently."

Cons

"We have had some challenges in the Arabic implementation and in migration, but for daily work, it's fine."
"Here in Algeria, we are facing a lot of trouble finding partners and getting support from HPE. There should be better support here in our country."
"The setup was complex from the perspective of the employees having to go through five days of training. If they simplified the administrative process of maintaining the unit, that would go a long way."
"The GUI was a little hard to figure out how to use."
"During the initial setup, it was a bit complex in the wiring of the cages."
"It's a very complex platform to manage and it's not cheap either. It doesn't really give us the level of flexibility we had for very, very small workloads."
"I would like to see more storage, a better interface, and to move from mechanical disks."
"It should be mentioned that in Pakistan, some parts are not readily available, and we need to import them from Singapore or other countries."
"The entry-level product has limitations on the number of disks and enclosures."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The price of HPE 3PAR StoreServ is reasonable, but buying upgrade licenses are priced very high. There are additional fees."
"The support for the solution is free for three years, then it is an additional cost. It is approximately $30,000 annually. The price includes a lot of equipment we have not only HPE 3PAR StoreServ."
"It makes for less administrative overhead."
"We do not have any licensing fees."
"For the price that we were able to acquire it, we have seen it give us the performance and stability that we require to run our enterprise."
"Take advantage of what HPE offers as far as professional services, and this will help you make the right decision."
"The licensing fee is not cheap."
"We purchased the total package for approximately $60,000."

Measuring Up: EMC XtremIO and HP 3PAR
Leading up to EMC World 2015, IT Central Station asked how I would compare EMC XtremIO and HP 3PAR. Until recently, the flash storage conversation in my organization and many others has centered on XtremIO and Pure Storage, the leaders of the all-flash array (AFA) space. To that end, I've written a…
