Ensures quick data handling but needs advanced security features
The speed and performance of HPE MSA are admirable. I found that its scalability benefited my organization, especially in larger settings. While the price is not reasonable, its performance makes up for it. Additionally, the licensing costs are consistent with most brands. Compared to Huawei, however, I found that Huawei's processing power, performance, and cost were more advantageous.

The Nimble CS-Series has proven to be reliable with 100% uptime
When we started the process of looking for a SAN vendor I had four primary criteria: reliability, performance, cost, and simplicity. We were really looking for a unicorn and were fully expected to have to make compromises in one of those areas. The Nimble CS-Series was recommended by our solutions provider, and we were blown away. Not only was it the most affordable option, but it was the easiest to deploy, had the best performance, and has proven to be reliable with 100% uptime.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"For those who want to use HPE MSA, the biggest benefits are data deduplication and snapshot replication."
"HPE MSA is a very flexible array because we can add more enclosures and extend the capacity dynamically."
"Generally, HPE MSA has improved my storage management and has notably provided scalability benefits."
"Monitoring is a very big thing. Other great features include block storage; volume creation and the data reliability scalability, which makes the solution really good."
"MSA performs exceptionally well, particularly in regions with frequent power outages."
"The cost to performance for HPE StorageWorks MSA is good."
"The most valuable features are data deduplication and snapshot replication."
"Easy to manage, it’s reliable for us, and fits our environment."
"From my point of view, the configuration that I can sell is restricted to the EMC best practices. It is hard to make a mistake in a solution. It means the configuration has good performance and scalability options."
"One of the best features of the VNX is the ability to combine drives of different types into a virtual Storage Pool. By combining small but fast flash drives, SAS drives, and high-capacity but slower NL-SAS drives, the VNX can intelligently move data to the different tiers of storage based on usage."
"It would be a good choice for midrange businesses due to the performance/features and cost."
"Reliability, excellent support by EMC, and VMware integration High availability including non-disruptive updates: We cannot afford downtime windows."
"The VNX 5700 provides a large number of features including the ability to work for both file and block as a unified array."
"It is very stable even during multiple power failures."
"It has a good, high-level of storage."
"FAST auto-tiering is a great feature."

Cons

"HPE should reintroduce customizable ports as they were in Gen 5, allowing customers to use both iSCSI or SC on a single controller."
"The main difficulty is the firmware upgrade of disks, as it means stopping all the servers to make the upgrade."
"P2000 has become legacy and we can't find spare parts for it anymore. The life cycle is very low."
"It's a fairly simple product to set up as well, but it's a little bit more entry level; for those customers that can't afford something larger or whatnot, but would still like to get that shared storage or that SAN functionality."
"HPE StorageWorks MSA could maybe include a pay-top of texture feature or something like job replication."
"We faced a lot of challenges with our custom configuration during installation."
"I am not satisfied with the licensing model and pricing."
"It should show more options for cloud backup support."
"They may change the disks from NL-SAS to Flash, but it would be costlier for customers."
"You need a lot of licenses in order to use this product, which makes the product expensive; the maintenance contract price also increases significantly every year."
"There is no easy way to defrag a RAID group. It would be nice to be able to reduce the size of a storage pool if the storage is not needed anymore."
"I do not recommend the Gen 1 VNX to anyone in this day and age."
"EMC pricing is too expensive, like the Apple brand iPhone in the cellphone market."
"Oracle is never the cheaper solution. Compared to others, it is always among the most expensive."
"HP EVA and once NetApp, but they both had slow performance and a lack of features so we switched."
"I think one area where we would like to see improvement is better deduplication and compression."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The solution’s pricing is reasonable."
"This solution is quite expensive; they should lower the cost."
"The solution can be a bit expensive."
"I would rate the pricing as nine out of ten, where one is cheap, and ten is expensive."
"When we bought this solution it was very reasonably priced and they were willing to deal."
"HPE StorageWorks MSA's licensing is perpetual and not integrated."
"The price of the solution is a little high and they should provide more competitive pricing. If you want to increases the storage size there are additional fees."
"This solution involves a one-time CapEx payment, followed by warranty extensions."
"While EMC tends to be on the expensive side, the stability and support of their products are top-notch and I feel are worth the cost."
"Reducing dependency on JavaServer Pages (JSP) could improve the administrative overhead."
"The initial pricing and licensing are reasonable. Yearly EMC is more expensive."
"The initial pricing and licensing are reasonable, the yearly EMC is more expensive"
"Make sure you understand how the licensing works and that you are getting the right set of licenses if you need array-to-array replication."
"Over time, VNX has become pricier than its competitors, and we have turned enthusiastically to Unity."
"Pricing is somewhat higher, especially in Zambia, perhaps due to the low sales volume."
