The initial setup is very easy. We deployed this in two days, including installation, system setup, firmware upgrades, configuration, and network connection. By the next day, we were already deploying virtual machines. We initially began with the Blade system. As the migration to SAP HANA approached, it seemed prudent to upgrade our hardware. Consequently, we facilitated their transition from the Blade system to Synergy. Subsequently, we collaborated closely with the SAP consultancy company to oversee the migration process, ensuring seamless integration of all workloads and sub-environments. We have four people working on the deployment, including a project manager, two specialists, and one tech support.

It's not a one-size-fits-all converged infrastructure system, which means that I can mix things and have convergence throughout the whole stack.
The Netra Modular System is really cool because unlike all the other Oracle solutions, this is a system that is a lot more agile. It's a technology that's the basis of a converged infrastructure, but it's what we work on -- agile convergence. The Netra Modular system lets you do things you can't do with competing products. Competing technologies in convergence force you to use their hypervisor. They force you to use their OS. They force you to use their storage in its configuration. It's very cookie cutter. They're kind of one-size-fits-all and there's no flexibility. If you think it, when's the last time you bought your clothes one-size-fits-all? It just doesn't fit well. People have been doing that with convergence. So what's cool with the Netra Modular System is that it's not one-size-fits-all. I can mix things in it in ways I can't mix on other systems, but when I use Enterprise Manager, I still have the advantages of a converged system. I still have a single pane of glass, but it doesn't do a lot of convergence, just maybe the network, the storage, and the operating system. With Netra and Enterprise Manager, I can start from the network in storage and go all the way up into the application tier. It's convergence throughout the whole stack.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable feature is its composable infrastructure. Everything I need is in the box. Manageability is through OneView, so I can get all the information about the box itself at any time I want."
"HPE Synergy has been dependable for the past 15 years."
"There is no problem with the scalability."
"Everything is in one place. We have one place to with OneView. It provides one console with one place to get to everything. The one interface makes it easier. We have one guy who does almost everything in it."
"The wireless mounting system is excellent. We can use the monitor over the Internet and perform troubleshooting remotely with the connection to SQL. It includes a comprehensive monitoring tool. It offers many features, allowing us to update, manage, maintain, and troubleshoot the system efficiently."
"For us, it's all about up-time and a good performance experience for our customers and Synergy helps us do that."
"I like that it's suitable for virtualization. It's also stable and scalable. The newer version has a lot of memory, and you don't have to worry about updates."
"The scalability is very good. The ability to link chassis or frames together makes it simplistic, especially with the use of OneView."
"In regards to scalability, you really can't beat it."

Cons

"One of the issues that we that we have been having is with the firmware baselining. So, we need to just making sure that we get that working. However, we are in the early stages. It may well be that we just tweak a few things."
"But with other stuff, software stuff especially, say Data Protector - now it's Micro Focus - it was a total nightmare."
"You can always improve some things."
"I would definitely like to see them fix the firmware updates on all the blades. No matter what operating system it is running on, make sure I can do the firmware as well as the software for those firmware components at the same time. I don't want to have to rely on an external product. Let's bring that product inside the menu so that I have a better experience with updates."
"The only issue that we had was our rack was too small. The product is heavy, so it took a lot to get it in there."
"The power consumption is very high, and there should be a more efficient way of reducing the power requirements while maintaining high performance."
"In the past, I have had issues with configurations."
"That means you're managing and you're monitoring your networking, your compute, your storage from it, but not everything works."
"What I would love to see is better integration between Enterprise Manager and ES2 switches."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Nutanix was really hard to implement, and it was very pricey compared to what we get from Synergy."
"The hardware licensing cost is reasonable."
"The price point is a little high. We were able to get a good deal on a promotion, to go with it. It would be nice to see the prices come down a little bit."
"We outright purchased Synergy."
"The biggest cost is the VMware licensing."
"We pay for licensing on the fibre channel uplinks, on the Virtual Connect, which is an add-on."
"There was at least about a 20 percent savings in cost over our purchase based on the purchase price of the compute modules themselves versus what we've had to pay before. It was significantly less."
"The platform that we run Synergy on is all virtualized. Our primary cost is likely VMware."
