Cloud-managed switches have improved secure segmentation and simplified automated patching
Meraki MS Switches are easy to manage, but I believe they are more suitable for use on the IT side because Meraki faces the internet, requiring an open connection through the internet for control. It is not the same as Cisco switches, which operate via command line. I normally use command line for configuration, while Meraki utilizes a cloud-based dashboard that necessitates a constant internet connection for configuration. Therefore, I find Meraki MS Switches more suitable for the IT side. The improvement needed for Meraki MS Switches is the ability to connect in the worst case when I encounter internet issues. When I cannot connect to the internet and need to configure or connect directly to Cisco switches or access Meraki for changes, I face difficulties. When Meraki MS Switches can be configured without an internet connection, I think I can use Meraki MS Switches on the OT side. The only improvement I seek is configuration without an internet connection.

Quotes from Members

Pros

"The most valuable feature of Huawei Ethernet Switches is the power ethernet which allows you to generate hubs to 10 Gbps data on the ethernet cable."
"The initial setup of the solution was easy, it took 20 to 25 minutes."
"One scenario where Huawei Ethernet Switches improved network efficiency was last year when a customer needed switches with 10 gigabits, which are not very common in the market. Huawei provided this kind of switch, enabling the customer to upgrade their network from 1 gigabit to 10 gigabit speeds across all devices."
"There aren't any licensing costs, it's a one-off payment at the beginning and then you can use them for as long as you like."
"What we like the most is that the price is reasonable and it's easy to manage."
"The tool’s pricing is reasonable. It has a high throughput capacity."
"The solution is very inexpensive, the documentation is very good, and technical support is also very good."
"They are very user-friendly. Handling Huawei is very easy."
"They're easy to update."
"The most valuable features are the cloud and throughput visibility, the ease of configuration, and being able to implement them into our umbrella DNS solution."
"I like the flexibility of the Meraki firewall. It gives you the ability to lock things down. Having multiple VLANs is helpful for the switching infrastructure and firewall. It's crucial when you have a public-facing VLAN, a private-facing VLAN, and a secure VLAN."
"The expandability and ease of use are excellent."
"The most valuable features of Meraki MS Switches are ease of use, and we can find technical knowledge easily."
"I use it at work and at home and I don't have any issues."
"he product is easy to integrate with other software tools."
"It is easy to configure and claim the switches by their serial number directly from the portal."

Cons

"We would like to see additional backup solutions, since we have several degrees of backup."
"The licensing cost attached to the solution is atrocious, so from an improvement perspective, it should be made cheaper."
"The performance has been slow at times."
"The solution needs to provide GUI commands."
"I would like to see some improvements in the access layer switch that is available in Aruba."
"One of the problems with Huawei is that when you receive a product quote from one of the vendors, you cannot get prices from the other ones because they register your request with Huawei."
"The durability of the device can be improved."
"Huawei Ethernet Switches are scalable but can be improved."
"The licensing model needs to be improved."
"Performance is an area in need of improvement. Other systems, such as Juniper switches, perform better for the same or less money."
"It is not compliant with the requirements of specific industries that want to set it up within a particular region or country."
"Sometimes it's a little slow, but I think that's due to the pandemic."
"I haven't seen any specific return on investment from implementing Meraki MS Switches, as I can't provide any numbers."

"I would like to add a voice capability to Meraki, to make a call or receive a call."
"The MS Switches are incapable of doing trunking."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Huawei has the same licensing model as Cisco, so both are working on the subscription model."
"It is cheaper than Cisco."
"The exact pricing varies based on how many units you purchase."
"The initial setup is straightforward."
"The pricing is good so is rated an eight out of ten."
"We have a one-year license. There are no additional costs besides the licensing fee."
"The switch came as part of a package bundle that includes internet service."
"The tool's price is affordable and I would rate it a five out of ten. The prices are fixed with no additional cost involved."
"I don't have an issue with the price of this solution."
"The Layer 3 switch is the most expensive switch."
"With the solution that we currently have, I think it costs about 1,200 pounds a year. They bill on a yearly basis."
"The product's licensing cost is about 30% to 40% of the hardware cost."
"We don't use standard licensing. Most of the time, we use the advanced security model. If there is a drawback to Meraki, it is the cost, but you also have to evaluate it based upon the other factors that you do get. Their support is really good; their hardware is really good. The ease of configuration and deployment is really good, but it is more expensive than most."
"The DNA subscription is a three-year minimum term."
"The pricing is high and it is where we get the most pushback from customers."
"The tool is expensive."
