Automation platforms streamline processes and offer flexibility, but AI integration and version upgrades pose challenges
In the technology world, there is always room for improvement. Technologies evolve day by day, especially with the emergence of artificial intelligence and generative AI models. Although IBM BPM is a substantial product, adopting and integrating new technologies quickly is not easy due to the migration and upgrade paths involved. Every time new versions are released, we face business and production challenges that make rapid adoption challenging. The main concern bothering me today regarding IBM BPM is the integration of AI components.

User experience reveals stability and easy deployment, though improvements in integration options are needed
We are still working with DataPower Gateway with IBM solutions, but they will move to webMethods from DataPower, IBM. We still use IBM FileNet for the FileNet. We have already integrated IBM Case Foundation with IBM Content Management and are using IBM Content Navigator as an interface in Content Engine and Content Management for lifecycle documents. I do not use analytics for operational insights. We work in banking, but not in healthcare. Currently, my customers are using it on-premises, and security-wise it is fine. For Saudi Arabia, 300 users represent a medium business. I recommend IBM Case Foundation; it is the best in BPM solutions, and I support it. It is the best because it has stability, very good stability. IBM has good stability, and performance-wise it is also easy for deployment. From the GUI, you can make many changes, and it is low code; we did not write much code because the BPM design is a very good solution. My total rating for IBM Case Foundation is 8.5 out of 10.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable feature for the organization is the Document Store."
"The integration capabilities of IBM BPM are excellent."
"With the tester coach wherein you can interact with the interface while you're designing the process."
"I have had the opportunity to work with various organizations that can be categorized as medium to large scale and was able to successfully deliver process optimization and system integrations that helped the customer increase their ROI and improve their process performance many times over."
"IBM BPM is stable."
"I would recommend this solution; it is a very good solution, and they are working on improving it in all areas."
"If you're trying to lower and contain your costs or mitigate a lot of risk, there is nothing like the IBM Cloud."
"This solution has streamlined our operation and improved the TAT of sales, operations, and underwriters."
"The most valuable feature is its stability, which is why we are using it."
"The product is very, very reliable, and very stable - especially the content manager part of the FileNet."
"I recommend IBM Case Foundation; it is the best in BPM solutions, and I support it."
"It is well integrated with documents and document management from IBM, is a very good data-driven solution, and it is easy to set up workflows that notify the user depending on certain events."
"The client and the IBM content navigation are the solution's most valuable features."
"In terms of rolling out deployments, it's good and there aren't really any bugs."
"The only thing is that we can easily track where the application is in the process, from manual to automation."
"It's very easy."

Cons

"Where it can be improved is Integration. I think that the direction that IBM is taking now, to have something that is much more integrated, that can be seen as one single solution, is clearly the right way."
"I would like to see the solution be able to interact with other customer software solutions."
"Development of user interfaces Load time (performance) of the user interfaces"
"It can definitely be improved in terms of performance and stability."
"IBM BPM integrated with Spark UI and the UI is now much better, but they still need to improve the UI because competitors have predefined templates and other additional features."
"There needs to be better documentation for IBM BPM in a central place. There is not any standard documentation for each component available and has been a barrier for developers."
"Needs better reporting. I do not think that we are fully taking advantage of what it already has yet."
"The price and the overall installation process could be improved."
"The service as it currently stands is out-of-date and lacks flexibility."
"The place of improvement is merging or combining all of the workflow functionality into one seamless tool. Now, there are multiple installations that are different. Case Foundation, before you can put Case Manager and you've got IBM BPM, and the roadmap is there to merge them altogether. But that's the struggle at the moment, it's having multiple installations and disparate workflow applications."
"There is a need for more open and flexible integration capabilities, allowing seamless collaboration with a broader spectrum of business process management solutions, beyond the confines of IBM's document management offerings."
"The other thing that they could improve is that when you change the workflow definition from the BPM, then when all workflows are started with the older definition there where they have to stay with the older definition and don't see the change for the older workflows."
"The service as it currently stands is out-of-date and lacks flexibility."
"IBM needs to update the user interfaces of all its products to make them more intuitive and accessible to beginners. Compared to Microsoft products, IBM solutions are less user-friendly. IBM programs are hard to master. It's a problem in my region because it's hard to find IT staff who can work with IBM."
"The initial setup is somewhat complex and needs to be simplified."
"The place of improvement is merging or combining all of the workflow functionality into one seamless tool."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"We have a yearly licensing model. It is not expensive. There are no addition costs to the standard license."
"It may be cheaper for organizations to pay for the Viewer licenses that are immediately up and running in the cloud, rather than paying for someone to administer publishing to an intranet."
"IBM BPM is expensive, so most large companies opt for IBM based on their licensing options."
"The pricing is quite high, I would rate it two out of five."
"The price of the solution is fair for an enterprise solution that has both cloud and on-premise deployments and when comparing to competitors. Recently IBM has introduced Cloud Pak which allows for more flexible licensing options for automation and other features."
"Its price is on the higher side, and it can be improved. Its licensing is on a yearly basis. There are no additional costs."
"Our customers do see ROI. They'll identify some particularly painful or uncoordinated processes to start with, then build out from there, picking off low hanging fruit."
"When considering the features of the solution the price is expensive compared to competitors."
"The price falls in the middle range—not overly expensive but not extremely affordable either."
"This is not an expensive solution and we are using the standard license."
"Pricing is in the mid-range, it is not cheap, but it's not expensive."
"IBM Case Foundation is a little expensive."
