Support improves setup and maintenance while pricing influences decision
If you have a similar use case and the same deal with IBM as our company, it is definitely a good option and choice. The company I work with has more than 50,000 people and more than 500 support staff. We are not locked into one database vendor. We typically work with multiple database vendors simultaneously, selecting the top choice based on the deals we make and other considerations. We do not use IBM Db2 Database related to AI at this moment because our AI project PLC is still very small scale. We may consider it in the future if we have enough scale. Overall rating for IBM Db2 Database is 8.5 out of 10.

An easy-to-deploy solution that can be used for data ingestion and usage
I work for a fintech company where we create several strategies generally built on finance data, which are like one-time series data. We deal with huge bulk data on a daily basis, and we use kdb+ for data ingestion and usage The most valuable feature of kdb+ is the speed at which it returns the…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Very good for performance and scalability."
"The structure is straightforward, consisting of the test file and the logical and physical files. You have one physical file and many logical files related to it."
"I have found the most valuable feature to be its availability."
"Its robustness, scalability, availability, and performance are valuable. All these are the major attributes of a relational database for supporting a very high-volume business, and Db2 is very good in all those areas and in all those attributes."
"The valuable features include access path optimization, excellent performance, a robust locking mechanism, parallelism, and effective buffering in memory."
"It is quite a stable solution."
"It is a scalable solution."
"I believe that because the support is good, they jump in and assist us in determining the root cause."
"The solution returns data quickly, and data retrieval is fast in kdb+."

Cons

"The data table names are very short which is not user-friendly compared to the Oracle SQL server. It should have longer column and table names."
"They should develop its containerized version."
"The technical support can be faster."
"IBM Db2 Database is not ACID compliant, which would improve it. Db2 lacks Isolation, so when two people are trying to update the same field at the same time it can become stuck. Other newer databases do not have this issue, such as Microsoft SQL, Oracle DB, PostgreSQL, and SAP HANA."
"The user interface is old and needs to be improved."
"The vendor should offer a free version"
"I would like to see some artificial intelligence brought into the solution."
"They could enhance the product's cloud integration and general-purpose database capabilities."
"The solution should have a more user-friendly user interface."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It's very expensive for West African countries like ours."
"We normally handle large size businesses and as far as I am aware, the license is negotiable based on the number of users and the quantitative data."
"Licensing fees are on a yearly basis."
"The solution costs less than other products."
"Db2 is less expensive than Oracle."
"I rate the product pricing a nine out of ten."
"We purchase the product's yearly license."
"The solution's hardware and subscription model for support are very expensive."
