Modular structure and AI features stream new reporting processes
One of my clients has a requirement; they want to integrate metadata into the process, which means, for example, if I just want to implement a new field into my database, that field needs to be reflected throughout, let's say, 200 mappings. This highlights the need for a data-driven approach. My experience with technical support from Informatica is quite interesting; I would rate it as nine out of ten for Informatica PowerCenter kind of products or the Informatica integration products, because my team can do some hands-on using their free licenses or one-month kind of products. However, for products Master Data Management or related to MDM or Data Governance, there is no way by which we can directly practice, and my team struggles at that point.

It has a good architecture and it's easy to maintain
We work with various clients and use Hybris for selling different kinds of products, including merchandise, electronics, ticket reservations, electronics, and food Hybris is stable and has good architecture. It's easy to maintain.  They can change their backend because it's a little hard to work…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The valuable feature is metadata management. If you want to trace sensitive data, you can auto-classify them. You can search for sensitive information through EDC. Using Discovery, you can identify if there is any type of data set."
"The solution is stable."
"The mass ingestion functionality and the elasticity of the solution are great."
"The solution's technical support is pretty good, especially since the turnaround time is good."
"The Mapping Configuration and PowerCenter wizards are valuable. We use them to run our business logic."
"The most valuable feature is its ability to extract metadata from various sources- be it an old SaaS application or the latest cloud application."
"It has become an easy way to exchange information through any cloud application."
"The most valuable features of Informatica MDM are it is cloud-enabled and has all the elements that are supposed to have in terms of MDM as a solution. All the features that are there. It is very well-integrated with any of the SAP and non-SAP applications. It is quite user-friendly. The user experience that you receive in Informatica MDM is quite good."
"Hybris is stable and has good architecture. It's easy to maintain."

Cons

"The configurations could be better. It is a bit confusing because we must develop two tools when building a data model in Informatica MDM. Even though Informatica MDM is a single tool, we have our hub console plus the provisioning tool within that. Whatever data model we are building in the hub console, we have to develop it in the provisioning tool again. It is double the work to create a data model. We are also using external calls or the Java custom plans functions. This can be both positive and negative. Since MDM as a client does not support any complex validation, we have to depend on the external call or a Java call. Every time we deployed, the entire solution was impacted if something went wrong."
"The licenses are too expensive compared to before, which is why customers are now preferring other data metadata management tools like OneTrust, Collibra, and Azure Purview."
"The biggest challenge I see is the IDE's for the cloud and automization are different."
"One area that needs to improve is the user experience because it is very complex. The trial version is very complex so it's not easy to start using the program immediately. You must study the rules first."
"The stability and the integration of the solution have room for improvement."
"Its pricing model can be improved. The response time from technical support can also be improved."
"Certain applications are not being synced with the ION."
"While my company operates on the cloud, we have seen that Informatica Cloud Data Integration has some performance issues causing it to lag."
"They can change their backend because it's a little hard to work with. They could streamline it with new technology."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The product has a high price point."
"Cost-wise, I think it is on the higher side, and that is why we are looking for some better options. Licensing costs are huge compared to other players in the market and for my company."
"I rate the product's pricing a nine on a scale of one to ten, where one is low price, and ten is high price."
"The pricing is high compared to other tools on the market."
"We are quite happy with the licensing model."
"The price is neither too high nor too low."
"The licensing price of the product depends on the organization's requirements."
"Informatica MDM is very expensive. Apart from licensing fees, they have broken down their products into multiple products, and they charge for each and every product. If the data is huge, they charge for the data. At times, we have to use third party services for data cleaning, and they charge for that as well."

I have participate in two customer integration projects for financial sector. First was connected with custom MDM, second was Informatica MDM implementation. If you plan build own MDM solution you have consider: - integration with current architecture (bulk loading via MDM, real-time integration via ESB) - use data quality tool for information matching (ex QualityStage or IDQ) - data steward in...

I was part of evaluating several vendors for MDM program at my company and after technically evaluating each of them, Informatica was the choice. It doesn't make sense to build one as the tools available in the market are sufficient to satisfy the needs of MDM program. please let me know if you need help with vendor evaluation, RFP, implementation strategy etc..
