Cloud data catalog has streamlined lineage and quality while leaving more automation to improve
I have not explored IDMC's automation capabilities driven by AI and metadata too much at the moment, but it is on the cards. We are basically creating the foundation, as the whole migration has taken place recently and it is still early days. I think Informatica Intelligent Data Management Cloud (IDMC) is evolving, and as the vendors move forward, they pick up new concepts from each other. I have seen that products leapfrog each other, and from my experience over the years, the big players tend to copy features or add enhancements based on industry trends. I feel whatever the tool does not have now, there is a feedback loop allowing us to request new features, and we continually ask for different ways to do things as we have a pipeline into the product management team. It is difficult to say what additional features I would prefer to see in the next release of IDMC. I would appreciate more automation on the lineage front, with more AI to seamlessly join independent sources and create seamless lineage between different technologies, such as from file into database A into a different database and landing up in a reporting system such as Cognos, Qlik, Qlik Sense, QlikView, or Power BI.

A product that is easy to install and offers good stability to users
The API part of the solution is an area in the solution where improvements are made since I see that TIBCO is currently trying to revamp its tool by focusing more on redesigning it. There was a tool called Mashery, which is an API management tool that was acquired by TIBCO. TIBCO Cloud Integration is not a user-friendly tool when it comes to the installation phase or for maintaining the systems since its architecture is really complex. I think in the UK, one of the major telecom providers for whom I had done the infrastructure setup uses TIBCO Cloud Integration. Basically, TIBCO Cloud Integration is a bit difficult to install and manage the platform, but I feel there are improvements in the tool's latest version, especially on the API management side. Instead of moving to the higher version and converting the older version of TIBCO Cloud Integration or the legacy platform covered under TIBCO, they still use it because the architecture is completely different, and the components that the product has are completely different from what the new version of the product offers, making it one of the major reasons why TIBCO is coming up with a new version of the product that will be released in the upcoming year. The legacy platform of TIBCO will run on the cloud directly. TIBCO plans to develop a unified tool that is supported on the cloud and in an on-premises environment.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I have used a lot of MDM tools, and I've found that Informatica is the best solution out of all of them in terms of the architecture and user-friendliness."
"Having access to PIM production, we get all the details of the supplier from here and we also get to update the information on the master catalog for urgent tasks."
"The connectivity and their whole suite are valuable features because whether we need data cleansing or data mastering, we get it all in one platform and there's no need to test different cloud vendors and then integrate with one solution since Informatica is a one-stop shop."
"The solution's technical support is pretty good, especially since the turnaround time is good."
"It's probably one of the leading lights in ETL."
"You can extract and transfer your data as you wish it to be consumed later."
"The process of using the tool's scalability option is well documented."
"We are gaining our customers' confidence, and they rely on us for data classification."
"I am really impressed by TIBCO's integration of any level of complexity."
"The product's initial setup phase was easy."
"The initial setup was straightforward and because we often work with one of the most interesting companies in integration in Italy, what the program offers is absolutely outstanding."
"I like that it is a very good integration tool with many other things; TIBCO is very good for cloud integration."

Cons

"Right now, although they offer some templates, I would want more templates available to be imported."
"If I want to scan the metadata from the data lineage or the Python code, such areas can get tedious in the tool."
"Once the data is masked, we won't be able to reverse it back to its original value."
"Asia pacific region address validation needs to be improved."
"The tool is quite good overall, but sometimes the number of modules can be overwhelming. If the development interface could be optimized to have fewer modules, it would be greatly beneficial."
"Informatica MDM could improve the interdependency with integration."
"It is not easy to set up and configure the tool."
"The tools required to migrate existing mappings and server rules through cloud data quality are not available."
"TIBCO Cloud Integration is not a user-friendly tool when it comes to the installation phase or for maintaining the systems since its architecture is really complex."
"Integrations could be better. Although integration is good, we have faced some block issues."
"It is an extremely powerful solution, but it is very expensive, even though it only offers adequate functionality."
"The deployment was rather complicated."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The solution is expensive."
"The price is very high and has become a big concern for our customers who require the solution in order for their business to function smoothly."
"We are quite happy with the licensing model."
"It is an expensive solution. I would say it is the most expensive solution in the market."
"We switched to Informatica PIM because it was cheaper than the Oracle solution. It is cheaper initially, but they will bundle it later. This is what happens in the industry."
"I'm not sure about the most recent pricing trends, but I don't believe it's significantly different from PowerCenter. I believe it is nearly the same."
"Informatica MDM's price could be lower."
"Informatica Axon is expensive."
"We don't pay for a license."
