A stable solution with an intuitive interface and quick customer service
I have been working with Fortinet FortiGate, WatchGuard, Sophos, and SonicWall. I'm not as comfortable with SonicWall because of their UI and limitations. I prefer Fortinet above all other options. When it comes to configuration, I am confident in my ability to handle various tasks, including creating policies such as firewall rules, web policies, and application policies. Additionally, I can configure VPNs and implement load balancing, among other tasks. Overall, I feel much more comfortable working with Fortinet. Fortinet has made significant improvements by integrating AI with firewalls for threat analysis and prevention. In the past 2-3 years, they have launched FortiSASE and SIEM, and they also provide SOC services. Both Palo Alto and Fortinet FortiGate are excellent. While Fortinet FortiGate comes at higher prices, the functionality and support justify the cost. They promptly resolve firmware issues and inform all support providers about configuration changes.

Blocking access from specific countries and ensuring robust security have been effortlessly achieved
I use IPFire to protect my home The best feature of IPFire is the location block functionality. It allows me to block certain countries from accessing my site. Additionally, it is a solution that is available for free, which is perfect. The graphical interface could be much better. I have…

Dynamic web and mail filtering contribute to improved security measures
The reporting system is very poor. I cannot trace any traffic to our site if it feels some threats. It just tells me that there is something during a certain time but does not provide information about the type of threats or how to get rid of them. This needs improvement.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Fortinet FortiGate is considered the best in the European market for security reasons."
"The main benefit I have seen from using Fortinet FortiGate is the protection it offers because I can see threats that come through in real-time, and if they are blocked, I can see that."
"The product is very stable, easy to troubleshoot, and configure, so it has reduced the time it takes for support."
"You can create multiple Virtual Domains (VDOMs), which are treated as separate firewall instances."
"Its performance in fulfilling our requirements has been satisfactory."
"FortiGate NGF is simple compared to other firewalls. It is easy to use and you don't need any training. Any person with basic firewall knowledge can use it."
"It has very easy management and an amazing ETM configuration."
"SD-WAN has had a positive impact by reducing the operational costs in terms of headcount and management."
"I would rate the stability as ten out of ten for IPFire."
"IPFire has prevented any kind of hacking and enables us to comply with customer requirements."
"The centralized security is very good."
"The stability of Sophos XGS is very high."
"In terms of the functionality, I think it's pretty straightforward. It's easy to pick up. It's also user-friendly."
"SD-WAN features should be added."
"The solution was able to be integrated well with exciting hardware and software and in multiple business sectors."
"Sophos XGS that's a good firewall. If you use the endpoint, then you have what Sophos calls synchronized security. That will mean that if one of the endpoints is affected, it will be automatically set in isolation."
"The most valuable features are its nice interfaces and configuration. The endpoint is also very good."
"This kind of strategic technology makes it much easier to remove malware and address vulnerabilities quickly."

Cons

"I have contacted the support from Fortinet FortiGate IPS. The service was good but the speed could be better."
"They should offer special pricing to premium partners and customers."
"To stay ahead of the competition Fortinet FortiGate IPS needs to think about how to adjust pricing."
"The user interface needs a bit of upgrading."
"Backup can be improved."
"Due to its higher cost, Fortinet FortiGate can lead to increased operational expenses."
"They should make the rule sets more understandable for the end user. When you're trying to explain to somebody how a computer network is secured, sometimes it's difficult for an end user or customer to understand. If there was a way to make the terminology more accessible to the end user, the set up could be easier. They should translate the technical jargon to an easily relatable and understandable conversation for the end user, the customer, that would be brilliant. Particularly in an environment where the IT structure is audited regularly, there's always pressure from the auditor to up the standards and up the security and you get your USCERT's that come out and there's a warning about this and the customer will want to lock out so much and when you apply it they run into issue where they can't search the internet or print to their remote office. Of course they can't print to your remote office, they just locked it up. They should make the language more understandable for the customer. If there's a product out there that made the jargon understandable to John Q. Public, I would buy that."
"There should be better customization in the IPS."
"Accessing the internet was a bit complicated."
"The graphical interface could be much better."
"Some businesses require Dynamic IP. This feature would be useful if it worked."
"We need to know which feature is suited to different environments. More live sessions or time-bound training would help us understand better."
"The only issue that Sophos XG now needs to improve is the product's reporting capability."
"Its user interface is a little bit slow."
"All the security features could be better."
"The support service level agreement in regard to the amount of time needed to upgrade things is too low. It should be higher."
"Sophos XGS could be improved by adding a built-in hyper-converged solution."
"It would be helpful if they had a set of standard templates because it would assist in the beginning, when you are just getting started."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"If the customer is looking for SD-WAN, it comes free with FortiGate."
"I'll rate FortiGate's pricing a five out of ten since it is moderately priced."
"Fortinet has more device options that are affordable for small businesses than Palo Alto, and its enterprise-level models are also cheaper. Palo Alto also has a separate license for VPN connections and SD-WAN, but FortiGate offers these features standard."
"The price of Fortinet FortiGate is reasonable for an SME."
"For the performance that we get, the price is reasonable. There are cheaper options, but they may not deliver the same kind of performance that we want. For the performance they provide, the price is acceptable."
"Its pricing is good. It's average or normal as compared to Palo Alto and Check Point firewalls."
"When comparing the price of Fortinet FortiGate SWG to other solutions it is expensive. The price could be better."
"Its price could be better."
