Ease of deployment and excellent support ensures seamless data security
I am working with Veritas Backup Exec, and that is the one I use. The value of using Veritas Backup Exec across physical and virtual environments is significant. I had a chance to use Veritas Backup Exec on physical and virtual environments, but not on the cloud. The benefits from the platform support of Veritas Backup Exec are that it works very nicely for physical and virtual environments. Veritas Backup Exec is affordable for my customers. My customers use the solution on-premises and in virtualization. Securing the data for customers is obviously a significant benefit of Veritas Backup Exec. I highly recommend using Veritas Backup Exec for backup as it is very easy to use, easy to deploy, and the support is also very nice. On a scale of 1-10, I rate Veritas Backup Exec a 9.5.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable feature for me is the policy management capabilities"
"The flexible ways you can get to the data and the options that it gives you for backing up your valuable data are what make its offsite storage so valuable."
"The most valuable feature is the ability to back up IBM Power virtual servers."
"This is a very good product."
"In the global business world, Veritas has a very good name; I think they have a good solid product, and they are always trying to improve and update it, as they know what the client actually needs and are up to the challenge of satisfying those needs."
"This is a very flexible product, which allows you to back up not only the physical environment but also the cloud environment."
"Good open file option feature, SQL agent, and EM agent."
"It is responding very well, and its performance is good. It has a lot of options. For backup, you can connect it to a cloud or a physical hard drive. They also provide an API for integration with different platforms and products. However, we have not integrated it with another product."
"The solution is very fast. It does not take a long time to backup everything."
"Veritas helps me manage business-critical backups effectively and has been pretty useful in keeping the functions comfortable."

Cons

"Basically, the only thing I do not like about it, it was keyed off Lotus Notes."
"I would like to see more integration with different platforms."
"Expanding is difficult because if I want to add, for example, a terabyte of data, then I have to buy a disk shelf and it will cost me a lot."
"Currently, the solution does not have the capability to restore a single mailbox, so you lose a lot of time having to restore for example ten mailboxes just to recover one."
"The solution lacked local support, which became an issue for us and our customers. They needed to have more presence on the ground."
"I would like to be able to create a restore task that can be scheduled so that the same restore action will be performed automatically."
"There's one common issue with tape backups: the tape might have some space left, but Backup Exec says it's not writable and needs replacement. We've encountered this with multiple clients, so it doesn't seem environment-specific. It's likely related to the software. We usually just format the tape and use it again without much investigation."
"It would be nice to improve the backup acceleration and the fast restoration required."
"It could be improved in the area of reporting and ease-of-use."
"The console of Veritas Backup Exec is complex when compared to other software."
