High-speed backup and strong deduplication have supported secure long-term data protection
In my opinion, what can be improved about Veritas NetBackup Appliance includes licensing. A mixed licensing model would be more helpful, such as terabytes plus virtual machines, terabytes plus instances, or number of instances. I believe this could work and create a new competitive licensing model against other products. Additionally, embedding Enterprise Vault or some of its features in the backup software would enable better competition with Commvault, which offers backup and archiving from the same console. For the next release of Veritas NetBackup Appliance, I would like to see improvements in licensing, increased deduplication ratio, and enhanced high availability. Having high availability for Veritas NetBackup Appliance without requiring virtual storage like Cohesity would be important. Improving the overall high availability of Veritas NetBackup Appliance would be beneficial.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable feature for me is the policy management capabilities"
"The flexible ways you can get to the data and the options that it gives you for backing up your valuable data are what make its offsite storage so valuable."
"They are a large company with good best practices, and they give good support."
"It is good for huge and complex enterprise environments, and at the end of the day, you get an ROI."
"The initial setup gets easier the more you do it."
"The backup capabilities are very good, and we find the ability to allow for business continuity to be very helpful."
"This is a good backup interconversion solution because all the masters and the targets backups are on the same system, and it is easy to administrate for a single point of access for clients."
"Veritas NetBackup Appliance fairly covers our enterprise requirements and supports all our databases and operating systems."
"The reporting is very good compared to other tools."
"NetBackup is easy to use and user-friendly."

Cons

"I would like to see more integration with different platforms."
"Basically, the only thing I do not like about it, it was keyed off Lotus Notes."
"The reporting feature can be improved. At the moment, we can't acquire the exact information we need from NetBackup."
"The price needs to be improved because it is really expensive."
"Feature-wise, it is quite good, but it is very costly. Its price has gone up quite significantly over the years, and that makes people like us look at alternatives."
"Veeam has a verification action, which is good."
"I would like to see support for databases such as MySQL and MongoDB."
"NetBackup Appliance's pricing is reasonable, but it could be lower."
"It's difficult to make a switch with the tool because the actual physical storage doesn't work with anything else."
"They need to make the licensing more clear. They should give all of the licensing details for the portals and be more clear. I have accidentally purchased the incorrect license because it's not clear."
