Enables customers to manage security effortlessly with intuitive features and easy integration
In terms of improvements for Fortinet FortiGate, they could offer evaluation licenses, as compared to Meraki, which provides a 90-day evaluation. In Fortinet FortiGate, they do not provide standard evaluation licenses; instead, we need to request them from the OEM through the account manager for POCs. If we want to conduct a demo, we need to work with real hardware. In comparison to Cisco, we have DCloud, which helps with providing demos to customers, but in Meraki, I need to reach out to them, book a lab, and they need to provide all the hardware. I need remote access and L3 engineers to program it; only then can I offer a real-time demo to the customer.

Robust security measures and cost-effectiveness meet diverse industry needs
The biggest benefit of Juniper SRX Series Firewall overall is that it is rugged and cost-effective, offering basic firewall features and additional licensed features as needed. The main challenge I see as a distributor is Juniper's rating in the Gartner report, where Juniper is not a leader in enterprise security, which often influences customer conversations. Most customers want to check the Gartner report before they engage, making it challenging to sell Juniper security. With my extensive experience with the Juniper SRX Series Firewall, the robustness of the SD-Cloud or Security Director interface and overall functionality needs to be improved to compete with leading firewall solutions.

Enhanced threat detection with integrated security features and good support
We are using application firewalling, WAF, and SD-WAN. The capabilities are mostly within the box. For example, you will get web application firewall WAF as part and parcel of this. SD-WAN is also bundled. It integrates with their SIEM and SOAR solutions very nicely. Lastly, the pricing point is very cost-efficient as well.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The network security and cloud security are most valuable."
"We have a redundant setup for failover, however, it has not had to fail over ever and we have not had a capacity issue."
"Fortinet FortiGate IPS is a very good firewall; we don't have any complaints, it is doing its job correctly."
"The solution from Fortinet FortiGate is very good, and our experience has been very good."
"Fortinet FortiGate is scalable for our users. Right now, we have almost 70 users. We do not have any plan to increase our usage of FortiGate. For maintaining the firewall solution, one staff member is enough."
"Even though it has a few stability issues, its price is competitive."
"Fortinet FortiGate has helped me reduce Mean Time To Respond, or MTTR, and helped my organization consolidate all of the tools in one application."
"Fortinet FortiGate is a very stable solution."
"It provides good routing and high performance of the data center."
"Troubleshooting with the solution is quite easy. If you compare the process to, for example, Fortigate, Juniper is much easier."
"The performance is better, but it could have been any firewall in its peer group."
"Juniper SRX Series Firewall is a stable solution."
"Overall, we've been happy with the solution and I would rate it a nine out of ten."
"Before, we were handling everything with a Vyatta server until our network became more complex."
"vSRX is easy to deploy to any virtual infrastructure, such as OpenStack, VMware, and even Docker (cSRX)."
"We have no issues regarding hardware performance."
"SSL VPN is the best feature."
"The VPN connectivity feature is really nice."
"This product is very user-friendly, and its Layer 7 security is very much improved."
"So far, the performance and reliability of the product have supported our company's critical network traffic."
"The stability of Sangfor NGAF is good."
"It enables us to not only detect but also prevent various types of incoming threats, allowing us to take appropriate corrective actions and exercise control over the network."
"Sangfor is a good solution that provides a WAF and firewall solution; most other vendors, like Sophos and Fortinet and Cisco, only provide one solution, and that's a valuable feature of Sangfor."
"When it comes to the price of firewall solutions, Sangfor NGAF takes the cake, as it is cheaper than Fortinet, Sophos, Check Point and Palo Alto."

Cons

"Some of the web policy reports could be improved."
"FortiGate may include AI capabilities and integrate external threat intelligence. However, version management and backup/restore operations could be improved."
"Even though our currency in this part of the world is becoming increasingly weak, the pricing is now expensive for us. I have tried pushing Fortinet FortiGate to some customers, however, sometimes the transactions don't conclude due to pricing issues."
"One of the main reasons we're considering switching from FortiGate is because many companies have a lot of features and you don't have to pay for."
"After four years it has started to fail. The firewall engine is not so strong as of now, in my opinion."
"The initial setup is medium complex and takes between five days and a week."
"The process of configuring firewall rules appears excessively complex."
"The dashboard is not user friendly so is a bit complicated."
"Out of 18 software versions only 2 have been without issues with RPC."
"More recently we started using the GUI interface and that looks pretty shameful and needs improvement."
"The user interface is something that Juniper needs to improve."
"The Juniper product has to improve in terms of innovation."
"The CPU switch could be improved for a better overall performance of traffic flow."
"As a networking person, I don't really have any major issues with this device. Based on my experience of using it in a cluster, it could be more stable. I had an incident when one of the SRXs in a cluster couldn't learn ARP. It is a good solution, but firewalls don't seem to be an area of development for Juniper. They are focusing on data centers, routers, and switches, not firewalls."
"While the GUI is pretty good on the Juniper side, there can still be tweaks made to it that will make it even better."
"Junos Space should be improved to be on par with FortiGate's solution for managing firewalls and routing."
"Sangfor NGAF could improve the policies and default criteria. They could be much better."
"However, the maintenance cost can be a bit high."
"I feel Sangfor should follow the hierarchy and close deals via resellers instead of closing it all with their own team."
"The solution should be able to work in a hybrid setup."
"The firewall system needs gradual improvements because there are more threats and challenges in the world every day."
"Scalability for any network device is not very easy in terms of vertical scalability."
"The solution has too many bugs and these slow down the implementation."
"The tool's support is an area of concern where improvements are required."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"We are currently evaluating a Palo Alto solution, and the pricing could be a reason for going for Palo Alto."
"Its pricing is good. The advantages of Fortinet FortiGate over its competitors include good pricing and meeting our requirements at a lower cost."
"By default, they give SD-WAN along with the firewall. They don't have separate licensing for the SD-WAN functionality. However, they have security licenses that are sold separately on a subscription basis. Customers can consume these security features to protect their users from internet traffic."
"It is somewhat expensive compared to other solutions such as Sophos."
"The product is expensive. I rate its pricing a six out of ten."
"Price-wise, it's at a good price point for our market."
"A year or two years back, its price was competitive and reasonable. That was one of the reasons that people easily switched to Fortinet. Over the last two years, the prices have increased drastically. However, the prices of others have also increased. An advantage is there from the price point but not as much as it was previously."
"It's a year based license."
"The price is reasonable"
"While the price of support is expensive, the price of the solution, itself, is not."
"We were able to lower our overall operating costs over a three year period by 25%, mostly recovered from maintenance/support costs."
"Juniper SRX is reasonably priced."
"There was no additional licensing cost because there were no IPS services. It was just a firewall IP circuit router so they have the default licensing. We just need to renew the support yearly."
"When you consider performance, price, and features, maybe Juniper is not so cost-effective compared to other solutions like MikroTik."
"In terms of pricing, Juniper is in the middle. The most expensive firewall is Palo Alto. If a customer wants the cheapest price they should go for FortiGate. Juniper is in between these products."
"In general, their price definitely couldn't be cheaper."
"If you know you have around 200+ computer users on your network, then the Sangfor NGAF 5200-F-I model would be the minimum recommended model for that amount of users. This model includes modules for packet filtering, deep packet inspection, malware scanning, DSCP filtration, and many other features."
"The pricing is reasonable."
"Sangfor is cheaper than competing vendors."
"The price could be more competitive."
"The license of Sangfor NGAF can be purchased at different interval lengths, such as annually or three years. They offer a range of packages to choose from, such as combo or hybrid packages. We are using the complete solution package which includes IM, NGF and SSL VPN, and WAF."
"Sangfor NGAF is a cheaply priced product, especially if I consider the previous product that was used in my company."
"The product is very cost-effective compared to other brands or vendors."
"In my opinion, the price of the tool is good in the Pakistani market. We can easily get discounts if needed."
