Gained full visibility and streamlined threat detection through behavior-based insights and AI integration
Initially, we got to have a lot of false positives when we onboarded, but nowadays it's quite smooth. We have fine-tuned our security policies and allowed different levels of policies to get rid of those false positives. Currently, we are getting a fairly good amount of incidents that are not false positives or benign, but actionable items. The process is streamlined. In the initial days, the operations used to get involved in a lot of benign and other activities, but now the process is streamlined. We are leveraging the auto-detection and remediation plans. The operations teams are now more involved in other business roles as well, not just looking into the logs and fetching out what's happening there. They have fixed a lot of things. Initially, they didn't have IAC code drift detection, cloud posture management, or security posture management, but they have those now. They purchased different vendors and did a merger with that. They have now Prisma Cloud that gets integrated and now they are working with Cortex Cloud. Everything that was negative has now been addressed, and the product altogether looks to be in a very better and mature shape now. Currently, it's more or less detecting the workloads with AI-based best practices. Since most organizations are consuming AI agents and other things, we are looking forward to seeing what other feature enhancements Palo Alto can support in that.

Have maintained strong endpoint protection through behavioral analysis and daily monitoring
I previously mentioned that Kaspersky Endpoint Security for Business doesn't have built-in DLP, which was a concern. I think they could add it in the future; however, antivirus cannot provide a proper DLP solution, but they can offer a mix of DLP, similar to Trend Micro Apex One, which provides some sort of DLP file management. Nonetheless, we need a proper DLP solution such as Forcepoint or Symantec, whichever suits us. We'll be conducting performance evaluation in the next quarter while working on other projects. More value means a better GUI, user interface, and comprehensive reporting capabilities. In Sophos, we receive a daily system-generated report about what is happening, plus an alert system. The reporting system in Trend Micro is also excellent; I receive an email every day at 10:00 AM with a report for the last 24 hours.

Has supported compliance needs for mid-sized organizations but lacks customization and advanced integration
If we pitch Rapid7 InsightIDR against solutions such as SIEMs from Splunk or LogRhythm, it is not as customizable as a SIEM solution is. This is where it can improve if we keep in front the feature sets of a complete SIEM solution. Most common in the market is QRadar, but it is depleting now. It has been taken over by some other products such as Splunk and LogRhythm. If we compare these things with Rapid7 InsightIDR, then there are definitely some gaps that need to be filled. Data retention is also one concern because Rapid7 InsightIDR is cloud-based and operates on a subscription model. Whatever data you want to retain, it has to be paid for separately or it has a cost. Other solutions that are on-premises can have their own infrastructure or they provide some data retention for a month or in some capacity-wise, they provide that solution to them which makes them more attractive.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The product's initial setup phase is very easy."
"The positive impacts I see from Cortex XDR by Palo Alto Networks include a complete 360-degree view of our security posture altogether, being a uniform platform where we are ingesting logs from multiple resources."
"Once you become familiar with it, Cortex XDR by Palo Alto Networks is a more powerful tool and I would say that I prefer it over MDE because it is a stronger tool for me."
"If any application performs suspicious activities, such as changing registries or modifying other applications, Cortex XDR detects and blocks the entire application."
"It'll not slow down your system when compared to others."
"Threat identification and detection are the most valuable features of this solution."
"Cortex XDR is a very capable solution for protecting large networks and a lot of endpoints. It's very useful because the automation is very high, and if you combine it with the features on Palo Alto firewalls, it provides very strong protection."
"The policy configuration is great, the granularity of policies that are available is very helpful, it is straightforward to set up, and it has pretty much everything we need and works well within the Palo Alto ecosystem."
"It is very reliable, user-friendly endpoint security software."
"The solution offers many useful features and there is excellent integration with the app directory."
"The stability has been good."
"The centralized management is a nice feature, as it gives us the leeway to deal with other things while protection is being carried on in the background, so we do not have to keep watching as long as we have the right updates, and it also saves us time."
"It has a very good firewall, which lets you isolate your devices depending on the groups."
"It helps minimize breach of data and stabilize our network."
"The security of the solution is very good; it helps us avoid viruses very effectively, and the solution is very user-friendly and easy to use."
"We have over 1,000 users using the solution in our organization and the solution has been able to handle it."
"InsightIDR’s ability to process millions of transactions per day, and to notify me of the most critical ones, is priceless."
"I definitely recommend Rapid7 InsightIDR."
"The incident case management is the most valuable feature. Even though there's always something I find I would like to add to that feature, the ability to quickly sort through all the logs, network and endpoint data, etc., and add it to an incident case as part of the investigation, is nice. Having it automatically timeline that additional data into the original incident timeline, and correlate it to other notable events and activities on the network, results in a huge improvement in our overall confidence that we've quickly traced down the right source of an issue."
"The platform offers unlimited storage and agent-based solutions."
"I like that it's a cloud-based solution."
"Scalability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten. As a cloud tool, the product is highly scalable."
"Log search allows us to dive deep into aggregated logs and query all event types at once."
"Rapid7 InsightIDR integrates well with other solutions. It's also easy to configure because Rapid7 InsightIDR has a lot of instructions posted on their website that customers can follow if they need to get the source log."

Cons

"Cortex XDR by Palo Alto Networks could improve by adding a sandbox feature to better compete with their competitors which have it."
"Whenever the tool releases a new version when deploying the product across the organization, I feel like there are some disturbances in the CPU usage after upgrading the tool to the latest version."
"In the next release, I would like to see more UI improvements. Their UI is a bit basic. When we are speaking about Palo Alto Networks they are the big company, so they can improve the UI a little bit. The UI, the reports, the log system can all be improved."
"Initially, we got to have a lot of false positives when we onboarded, but nowadays it's quite smooth."
"The solution needs better reports. I think they should let the customer go in and customize the reports."
"This product has not improved my organization - in fact, we are in the process of moving back to another product as a result of Cortex's horrible impact on system performance."
"Traps doesn't work with McAfee. You need to remove McAfee to install Traps. This is very common, and its nothing that should be an issue. Some antivirus engines recognize Traps as an threat component, so maybe they need to shake hands somewhere."
"The product's pricing could be better."
"The performance of our machines tended to slow down under Kaspersky. I remember I had a pretty good Dell Notebook, and this product slowed it down quite a bit."
"It would be ideal with the solution offered more documentation."
"The reporting portion of the solution is quite weak."
"The GUI of the product is too basic, making it an area where improvements are required."
"There should be some AI involved. We already have machine learning involved in recent releases but machine learning should be more enhanced in the upcoming versions."
"The initial setup is complex."
"Kaspersky Endpoint Security for Business could improve the flexibility of use."
"This solution would be improved if it were more compatible with Windows Server. There is not a client for Windows Server, like for Windows Workstation, so there are a lot of things you cannot control from the local system, or from the desktop directly."
"The ability to tune the collector for custom logs would greatly help."
"Lacks a mobile application."
"I feel it would greatly benefit from more supported log sources."
"InsightIDR is only available in a cloud version. Some of our customers prefer an on-prem solution because they want to manage the security within their environment."
"InsightIDR's integration with other solutions could be improved. Also, I'd like more control from the portal over what's happening on the endpoint side. For example, when I see an attack on an endpoint, I want to be able to stop it from the portal."
"It would be useful to import threat intelligence in YARA format along with known incorrect email addresses."
"It takes time for the product's support team to resolve issues, making it an area of concern where improvements are required."
"One thing that springs to mind is easier API integration with ITSMs."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The price was fine."
"Licensing for Palo Alto Networks Cortex XDR can be costly, especially when it comes to a hundred users. A license is required for each user, and the subscription must be renewed on a yearly basis."
"The pricing is a little bit on the expensive side."
"If one wishes to work with another team or large number of users at a future point, he must purchase a license for them."
"The price of the product is not very economical."
"It is cost-effective compared to similar solutions. It fits for the small businesses through to the big businesses."
"The solution is expensive. It's pricing is on a yearly-basis."
"We didn't have to pay any additional fee for the cloud instance. It just came with the renewal, which was nice."
"We have approximately 700 licenses for this solution and we pay annually."
"The tool is expensive."
"We have been using a yearly subscription and feel that pricing could be better. Perhaps, discounts could be given, during the renewal process, to those who have been customers for some time."
"We purchase the product's yearly license. I rate the pricing five out of ten."
"I find the solution to be inexpensive compared to other solution like Crowdstrike."
"We have an annual license and there is a fee per device used. The price is fair compared to the latest EDR solution."
"We pay a yearly annual subscription for this product."
"The pricing is a bit more expensive than other products."
"I rate Rapid7 InsightIDR's price a four on a scale of one to ten, where one is cheap, and ten is expensive."
"Rapid7 InsightIDR is priced very well and is cost-effective."
"The team is very willing to work with companies. My suggestion is to call the Rapid7 sales department and see how they can help."
"The pricing of the solution depends on the user. But there is a yearly licensing cost."
"Rapid7 InsightIDR is a cheaply priced product. On a scale of one to ten, where one is very expensive, and ten is very cheap, I rate the product's price at seven or eight."
"Licensing is straightforward. If, for some reason, you don’t meet the minimum licensing requirements, there is a third-party managed service that can help."
"Licensing is by endpoint and amount of retention time (at least ours is). Default retention was one year, but we are able to push the retention further if needed. There's also a provide-your-own-S3 option for longer retention if you don't want to pay for the additional retention years in your Rapid7 agreement."
"The pricing is good, and it is not very expensive."
