Intrusion prevention and zero trust network enhance security while real-time monitoring needs improvement
Improved management of time zone alignments is needed to resolve issues swiftly, as waiting 24 to 48 hours is not ideal for businesses. More support is needed while we are still learning the system, and the cloud solution needs to be checked for updates. Additionally, LANCOM should improve its real-time monitoring capabilities to avoid the need for constant manual oversight.

Enhancements in deployment and monitoring simplify network implementation experience
We are dealing with VMware products including VMware VeloCloud, Cisco Catalyst, and Fortinet FortiGate as a system integrator, handling customer requests. We utilize VeloCloud's centralized orchestration for traffic prioritization. The impact of VMware VeloCloud SD-WAN's Dynamic Multi-Path Optimization on network application performance has been significant. We have tested this feature multiple times, and it was really powerful for steering traffic and packet regeneration, resulting in better flow. We have leveraged the automatic link resiliency feature in VeloCloud SD-WAN, conducting a VoIP test scenario that involved disconnecting link A and seamlessly shifting traffic to link B without any packet loss. However, we have not sold any CPE for VeloCloud in the last one and a half years due to the impact of Broadcom's acquisition. The significance of VeloCloud SD-WAN's deployment flexibility in an organization's network strategy is critical now, as every organization needs to reduce costs and undergo digitalization. SD-WAN provides security and quality of service without needing costly links such as MPLS, and using this CPE from VMware meets the SLA the customer needs. I evaluate VeloCloud's comprehensive visibility into network traffic as enhancing the network security posture. It provides detailed information such as user IP addresses, MAC addresses, and operating systems, giving us visibility for everything related to which customer, end user, application, and link are involved. On a scale of one to ten, I rate VMware VeloCloud SD-WAN a nine.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"LANCOM SD-WAN made it possible to monitor what was happening from anywhere, giving us flexibility and control over the network."
"The most valuable feature of VMware SD-WAN is security. Additionally, the integration and configuration are easier to do than with other solutions, such as Cisco."
"VMware VeloCloud SD-WAN is recognized as an SD-WAN leader, offering user-friendly solutions that help end customers and enterprises solve network optimization issues efficiently."
"Increases the performance of applications and is easy to deploy."
"If you are looking for automation and want to free up your IT to focus on other things, I recommend VMware SD-WAN."
"What VeloCloud provides is a solution that maintains data integrity."
"VeloCloud is a very good product as long as you don't have any concerns about security."
"It's easy to deploy and manage. Even a small group of people can manage a large environment. It's stable, easy to deploy, easy to install—all the stuff."
"If one circuit crashes, we are able to switch to a second circuit without any disruption in connection."

Cons

"More support is needed while we are still learning the system, and the cloud solution needs to be checked for updates."
"If you don't have an Internet connection, you can’t control it."
"They need to start focusing on the security functionality. They should find a way to embed the next-generation firewall functionality within the architecture. They should move more into applying SASE tenants to what they're doing."
"VMware SD-WAN is harder than Cisco. It is complex, and we must take many steps to get the service. I think it would be beneficial if obtaining licenses could be simplified. Currently, numerous options and integrations are bundled together, which can make it quite complex."
"The scalability is giving us problems at the moment. We want to put this as, for example, a primary MPLS, with internet secondary, and cellular tertiary, the LTE device doesn't even failover between them, however."
"The product should have on-demand tunnels instead of fixed tunnels."
"This solution can be improved by integrating other security solutions."
"The solution doesn't offer failover between their own devices. If I want to, I should be able to put the two devices at the side, so there can be a failover."
"There are a number of customers we have that require a fully mashed SD-WAN on VeloCloud that is not available currently."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"VeloCloud performs as well as the Cisco SD-WAN but it is cheaper in price."
"VMware SD-WAN provides competitive pricing."
"The licensing model of VMware SD-WAN could be improved, it is not always that competitive. The biggest concern is to be competitive against other solutions. However, the way that the licensing model is designed is not corresponding to the real use cases of my customers."
"My understanding is that the pricing is in the same range as other solutions."
"Overall pricing could be lower. It is much more expensive than traditional hardware vendor pricing."
"We pay about $500 USD, or 700,000 Korean won."
"Price would be a challenge for customers, because it is expensive."
"The price of the solution could be reduced."
