Experience improved integration and cost-efficiency while facing support challenges
The best features of VxRail are its compatibility with VMware, its hyper-converged solution capabilities, and its single line of support. These are the most beneficial aspects of VxRail. I switched from the previous HP solution to Dell solution because it was a good decision. With HP servers, we dealt with a vendor for the compute servers, another vendor for the storage servers, and another vendor for the networking, which required us to manage multiple vendors. Now, we have a single team who can handle VxRail and a single line of support. We don't need anything other than that, and these are the differences we noticed after we switched.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The product’s most valuable feature is the concept of hyper-convergence."
"VxRail is a hyper-converged infrastructure that delivers a solution with full performance, is scalable and easy to maintain, with great replication capabilities, is user-friendly and easy to navigate, and we have had zero problems so far as it is quite reliable."
"Management of the hardware and software in one console is the most valuable feature. It's also compatible with vSAN."
"It supports VDI deployment, enabling easy use for running different platforms in similar environments."
"The recent technologies and management features that have been implemented."
"The most valuable feature of this solution is the automation and integration points with other automation tools."
"VxRail simplifies IT infrastructure management by providing a single management console for compute, storage, and network. The second advantage is that VxRail offers a continuously validated architecture from the OEM. This means that Dell thoroughly tests all firmware updates before being released or installed on the product, helping to prevent compatibility issues. The third benefit is its ten-year roadmap. Dell consistently announces a roadmap for the product spanning the next decade."
"If you're looking for simplification of operations, this is a great solution to implement."
"There is a single vendor with the hardware, software, and maintenance. Thus, there is a single vendor with whom we can contact."

Cons

"Lenovo ThinkAgile MX Certified Node’s support services could be faster."
"For the fourth year and fifth year, I have to buy separately for the licensing from VMware and from VxRail, so I think the combo cost for the fourth and fifth year is huge and does not make sense."
"VxRail should try to improve the pricing."
"The product's integration could be improved. Its price is also a bit of a challenge, particularly if you want extra features or higher performance."
"The major issue with VxRail is the razoring process, which can only be performed by Dell."
"From my perspective, the main area for improvement is the license cost, particularly for the standard vSAN offering."
"When it comes to maintenance, it takes 16 hours to upgrade a 12 node VxRail plus. This could be improved in the system."
"It still has some maturity to grow. It needs to be more tightly integrated with its own family of products. It has shown that it is open with the other products within the market, through its stack, but it needs to have the proof in the market (with use-cases), and it has to have the scalability with the integration."
"The scalability is limited to a single cluster with 64 nodes."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The product has competitive pricing."
"The VMware licenses are included and we do not have to worry about the license, everything is integrated."
"Fees vary by license type."
"The price is a little bit on the higher side but the system and management are so quick and easy that it's worth it for the customer."
"The price point needs improvement, certainly for smaller SMBs. The cost of it is still quite painful. I think all vendors should do a product which is capped either by terabytes, IOPs, or VM instances. It should be an SMB solution that's going to make hyper-converged solutions easier for SMBs to get hold of. It's fine for those big guys that have billions of dollars of budget, but not for customers who have barely a 100,000 dollars or pounds in budget."
"The price would be in the middle to the expensive range. It is not cheap."
"While one could argue, from a strictly corporate standpoint, that the cost of VxRail has been in the higher range, the true evaluation lies in the return on investment."
"The solution is priced well for businesses."
"The solution is on the higher end of the price range."
