Gained full visibility and streamlined threat detection through behavior-based insights and AI integration
Initially, we got to have a lot of false positives when we onboarded, but nowadays it's quite smooth. We have fine-tuned our security policies and allowed different levels of policies to get rid of those false positives. Currently, we are getting a fairly good amount of incidents that are not false positives or benign, but actionable items. The process is streamlined. In the initial days, the operations used to get involved in a lot of benign and other activities, but now the process is streamlined. We are leveraging the auto-detection and remediation plans. The operations teams are now more involved in other business roles as well, not just looking into the logs and fetching out what's happening there. They have fixed a lot of things. Initially, they didn't have IAC code drift detection, cloud posture management, or security posture management, but they have those now. They purchased different vendors and did a merger with that. They have now Prisma Cloud that gets integrated and now they are working with Cortex Cloud. Everything that was negative has now been addressed, and the product altogether looks to be in a very better and mature shape now. Currently, it's more or less detecting the workloads with AI-based best practices. Since most organizations are consuming AI agents and other things, we are looking forward to seeing what other feature enhancements Palo Alto can support in that.

Comprehensive endpoint visibility and multilayer security have strengthened compliance and protected removable media in critical environments
I work with the data sanitization feature, including USB. When it comes to data integrity, it is not meant for data integrity; it will modify your data. It will not look into your content, but it will look into embedded objects, such as hyperlinks, scripts, and any other embedded object, macro, and images. It will remove that potential malicious content, sanitize the hyperlink, remove the macro, sanitize the embedded objects, and remove the scripts if they are attached in your document to prevent you from zero-day attacks. MetaDefender Endpoint has an excellent malware detection feature; it has around thirty plus different anti-malware engines, so the detection ratio can go up to ninety-nine point nine percent. The vulnerability assessment feature definitely helps to address system vulnerabilities. You will have visibility of the vulnerability, and it is a continuous assessment. You will get complete visibility of your environment and of your endpoint.

Has supported consistent deployment across departments but needs better OS compatibility and detection performance
I am not really looking for a new solution, actually, I was preparing for an interview and wanted to have a comparison between both tools. I have not worked with any of these products before, but we had a training demonstration yesterday with Dynatrace, and I have investigated the Wiz solution better. In terms of experience, it will be my first time with CDR. I am working with something for EDR, specifically, we have an EDR, it's VMware Carbon Black Cloud. They have a hybrid environment, both on-prem and cloud. I would usually recommend this product for big companies, because it's not cheap, so only big companies would I expect to pay for that. The review rating for VMware Carbon Black Cloud is 6 out of 10.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Cortex XDR can integrate the firewalls and determine the tendencies of the attacks. It's a new generation antivirus, with protection endpoints and detection response. It is very easy to use and everybody can operate the solution."
"We have a complete overview of all our PCs and it's very easy to handle and to use the interface. It has a lot of benefits for us."
"We can use Cortex XDR to get the entire graph of the incidents from source to destination, and we can take remedial action."
"The user interface of the solution is sophisticated and straightforward."
"Based on my experience, I would recommend Cortex XDR by Palo Alto Networks to other people."
"It detected stuff that other things wouldn't detect."
"The initial setup isn't too bad."
"After installing this solution, it identified, blocked, and provided the complete attack chain, which was very helpful."
"Altogether, it is going to be complete endpoint protection and visibility."
"We use it for platform metrics, for all use cases."
"With this product in our hands, we are able to remotely isolate exploited endpoints in seconds and perform a live deep dive of any endpoint into its running processes (as necessary) without the need for extra scripts."
"It is nice when you're in a situation where you think someone's device is compromised and that there's some malware getting into your fleet."
"Carbon Black insures the probability that any ransomware will be stopped before spreading."
"Mostly what we are using is CB Response, because we have a product on Carbon Black CB Response."
"The market information they gather from the community is really good. Their configuration capabilities are good."
"The ability to isolate an endpoint with only the host name and a click of a button is a major time saver."
"Carbon Black Cb Response excels at providing context to indicators when responding to incidents. It allows responders to understand the entire scope of an incident and quickly contain it to minimize impact and disruption."

Cons

"Cortex XDR by Palo Alto Networks could improve by offering remote management. It would be useful to look at the client's issue to fix it."
"It's not an ideal choice for smaller businesses, as you need a minimum of 200 endpoints to even use the solution at all."
"This product has not improved my organization - in fact, we are in the process of moving back to another product as a result of Cortex's horrible impact on system performance."
"I recommend adding a data loss prevention (DLP) solution to Cortex XDR by Palo Alto Networks. The inclusion of this feature would allow the application of DLP policies alongside antivirus policies via a single agent and console, making it more competitive as other OEMs often offer DLP solutions as part of their antivirus products."
"It is not easy to sell Cortex XDR, not because it isn't a good tool. Its marketing needs to be improved."
"The deployment is pretty hard."
"Fine-tuning the detection policy requires experience because the policy is very complex in Cortex XDR by Palo Alto Networks, and we get high false positive alerts."
"When it comes to core analysis, and security analysis, Cortex needs to provide more information."
"The negative aspect is that it only provides visibility; you require integration with multiple products to get complete control."
"They need to improve the batch console. It needs more capabilities. We are limited by the ones it provides..."
"The support team of Carbon Black CB Response needs improvement. At present, they need a lot of information. Then they give you an answer that they already gave you. You tell them it didn't work, and then they take a long time."
"Training and education for both partner and customer, including product marketing need to be improved."
"Technical support for the solution should be improved because there is a scarcity of support teams in the Middle East."
"If Carbon Black could improve in the area or reducing the number of false positives or if there was a better way to filter out false positives that would enhance efficiency and utility."
"For a junior engineer, it's confusing."
"The solution can only handle about 500 bans or blocks."
"It's not simple."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It is "expensive" and flexible."
"The cost depends on your chosen license type, like Pro or other licenses."
"This is an expensive solution."
"The tool's price is moderate."
"The pricing is a little high. It is per user per year."
"I did PoCs on products called Cylance and CrowdStrike. Although, I consider these products and they were also good, when it come to cost and budgetary factors, Traps has been proven to be better than the other two products. It is quite cost-effective and delivers all the entire solution which we require."
"Licensing for Palo Alto Networks Cortex XDR can be costly, especially when it comes to a hundred users. A license is required for each user, and the subscription must be renewed on a yearly basis."
"It's about $55 per license on a yearly basis."

"VMware Carbon Black Cloud is an expensive solution."
"The solution is very inexpensive so there is great cost savings to using it."
"You need to pay for the licensing of the product. The pricing is costly."
"Pricing for this solution could be made lower."
"Purchase Professional Services up front as part of the implementation package, then renew hours annually to ensure you have adequate support for upgrades and enhancements. Overbuy by at least 10% to account for infrastructure growth."
"We had no issues purchasing through our preferred reseller and were able to get a fair price even when not purchasing direct. Carbon Black Enterprise Response didn’t break the bank, though adding on the matching antivirus and anti-malware components of the Protect product was more than we could afford, even with some discounting. Cb Response is really designed to complement Carbon Black’s Defense product. While Response can be used on its own, coupling with Defense seems like the best strategy if you can afford the price tag."
