Offers good performance and
Once, I've been in a program, but they stopped supporting protocols like HTTP, STP, and that kind of stuff. All of the DIP supports at the beginning were kind of support when it was just Python and just five storage. And it happened a few times that the customer required the STP and HTTP protocol for storage. And I was surprised I couldn't do it anymore with NetApp. So, it would be beneficial for them to support both kinds of protocols. The only little black points that I would put on top of NetApp FAS Series. There is room for improvement in deployment and configuration processes. The thing with ONTAP is that we have a lot of layers, from the raw disks to the volumes we present to servers and configure. There are quite a lot of things to configure. Probably NetApp should ease the way to install that. In NetApp products, such as ONTAP and FAS, a solid understanding of storage is still necessary to handle configurations in larger systems. It's not the same with Pure Storage or Huawei. Even someone less familiar with storage could manage it, making it more accessible.

Well-suited for virtualized environments and highly stable solution
We are in a VMware Intra environment, so we are utilizing NetApp Storage for our virtualization infrastructure NetApp offers multiple features that we utilize for our projects. At the moment, we are extensively using SnapMirror Flex. There is room for improvement in the support. It has been a…

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Better performance and lower costs."
"The solution is stable."
"The solution is easy to use."
"I like the unified management feature because sometimes you end up running a single protocol on the entire system."
"The input and output per second performance are satisfactory."
"Has rock solid reliability and is easy to use."
"A reliable and easily managed storage system is a key performance factor. The system also has more features than we require."
"Fast Snapshots"
"The most valuable feature is integration."
"NetApp has its own dedicated operating system, so it will not be affected by any wireless piggybacking or malware. That's the beauty of NetApp's operating system."
"The solution scales well."
"Very stable and very scalable."
"NetApp is faster than other storage brands."
"At the moment, we are extensively using SnapMirror."
"The most valuable feature of NetApp Private Storage is out-of-the-box integration with the SAN switches. They are much easier compared to Dell solutions. Additionally, the connector that comes with the solution that allows connection back to the Cisco SAN switches is very good. In Dell, I would need to use an FCIP or CIP port that is required."
"As opposed to cloud, we have full control over security, use, who uses it. We own a number of different companies, so we can partition however we want."

Cons

"NetApp FAS Series should introduce an FTP application for the broadcast and post-production market."
"The solution could do more than just data."
"It was not possible to have a custom user inside ONTAP without the delete permission to delete the volume. We wanted others to be able to create a SnapMirror and volume, but have no volume deletion permission. In the newest version, it seems to already be in place, but there was a bug enabling this one in older versions 9.11, 9.10, or earlier."
"Cost is always a factor. Some people choose EMC or Dell because they perceive NetApp as being more expensive."
"The plan is to go with all SSDs and use MDM, rather than sticking with traditional disk drives. The goal is to have all SSDs for better maintenance speed, which is essential for applications that need to work."
"A big problem with physical appliances is that updating them can be a bit burdensome."
"With scalability, we feel the system is limited."
"There is no NetApp infrastructure set up here in Greece."
"NetApp Private Storage is still integrated into the ISCSI connectivity and the FC protocol. I would recommend them to migrate to the FCIP because the SAN switches are moving further to an FCIP, and are scaling out of the ISCSI connectivity. Sooner or later, that will be an issue for NetApp Private Storage. An NFCIP should be available to them moving three years down the line."
"They need a little more technical people in Akola. Most of the NetApp people are in Bangalore, Mumbai, or Delhi, but there are very few in Akola. I think NetApp has few technicians in Akola because they mostly rely on partners to service this area."
"I would like to see the GUI management simplified in the next release."
"The users find the new version's GUI complicated to use."
"I'm not sure how easy it is to use on the cloud versus on-prem. If they have different user experiences, they should work to make the two as similar as possible to make it easy for a user to understand both even if they only deal mainly with one."
"I think that it should work better with Microsoft solutions, more integrated with Microsoft. We also need integrated NAS and block storage."
"I would like to have the Active-Active feature. Some competitors already have it. I would like NetApp to add it to stay competitive."
"There may actually be so many features that the end-user gets lost in the volume."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The NetApp FAS series price is very competitive compared to other solutions on the market it is a good choice."
"The price it not low, but comparing features to other vendors, the price can be balanced."
"The product is on the expensive side."
"NetApp FAS Series could be less expensive."
"It is expensive."
"Low-priced product, but pricing could still be made more attractive."
"It is a moderately low-priced platform."
"I've sold arrays for as little $20,000 USD and as high as $300,000 USD."
"We negotiate whatever deal we can get on the type of storage that it is, but it's totally under our control,."
"It is an expensive solution."
"The price of NetApp Private Storage is similar to other solutions. There is typically an annual license required for this solution."
"The price could be lower."
"NetApp Private Storage is cheaper here in India compared to other solutions, such as Dell."
"The product is costly."
"In general, I am pleased with the pricing, though it is a little high."
