Zadara and NetApp StorageGRID compete in the cloud storage market, with each providing unique features for diverse storage needs. Zadara seems to have the upper hand due to its integration flexibility and continuous support model.
Features: Zadara enables seamless integration with major cloud vendors, ensuring low latency and offering a managed service with flexible storage tiering and hybrid deployments. It supports multiple protocols, suitable for dynamic workloads. NetApp StorageGRID excels with robust object storage capabilities, deduplication, and strong data security, prioritized for data durability and archival solutions.
Room for Improvement: Zadara needs to improve feature rollouts, proactive updates, and enrich reporting tools. NetApp StorageGRID could enhance pricing strategies, integrate better with monitoring platforms, and improve metadata management. NetApp's global marketing also needs attention.
Ease of Deployment and Customer Service: Zadara offers comprehensive hybrid cloud deployment options with proactive monitoring and 24/7 service, making it appealing for constant oversight. NetApp StorageGRID provides traditional deployment with strong support but lacks 24/7 management, making it less attractive for round-the-clock service needs.
Pricing and ROI: Zadara's pay-per-use model simplifies cost predictions and includes all features, providing significant ROI by reducing capital needs and offering flexibility. NetApp StorageGRID has a variable cost structure and is often deemed expensive despite competitive pricing for enterprise solutions.
In the long term, spanning three to five years, the total cost of ownership becomes cheaper, considering power consumption, data center footprint, and NVMe technology usage.
Our current workload, particularly the SQL use case, would not be possible on mechanical storage, and the ease of use for the small team for the array is important for supporting that workload.
Pure Storage FlashArray integrates with APIs and other systems.
The cost is not cheaper compared to AWS, and we have not seen the expected return on investment.
Pure's support organization is responsive with minimal bureaucracy, making support a key factor in customer retention.
I would rate the technical support an 11 out of 10.
The support from Pure Storage is excellent.
When evaluating the technical support of NetApp StorageGRID, I would give it an eight out of ten.
I would rate the support for NetApp StorageGRID as eight out of 10.
That's due to the fact that we haven't implemented all the technical support facilities in NetApp.
We lack adequate response times and a 24/7 service level agreement.
I rate the technical support from Zadara as nine out of ten.
A big banking client had around 300 petabytes of data on Pure Storage.
Our customers can scale up or scale out, raise the performance, and expand the storage spaces by investing every year.
The solution is highly scalable, particularly when there is a need to expand capacity.
The scalability of NetApp StorageGRID has been proven as we've expanded twice.
The scalability of NetApp StorageGRID rates an eight or nine out of ten.
Zadara is a fully-fledged platform, and our customers are happy with its use.
For stability, I rate it a ten out of ten.
We have continuous 99.9% uptime and do not experience any users reporting performance issues due to latency.
The vision Pure Storage FlashArray offers through the GUI is clearer; we can discern the status, what is cabled, and how direct flash is enabled.
My impression of the stability of NetApp StorageGRID is quite high; from one to ten, I would rate it a nine.
We experienced very little stability issues.
Integrating object storage into the FlashArray would benefit entry-level and SMB customers by offering a more unified solution.
Storing cold data on expensive arrays doesn't make financial sense, and tiering to any of the big three cloud providers would be advantageous.
As a technical professional, I lack visibility into the system logs.
They need to focus on a better upgrade path with easier and more resilient upgrades.
It would be great if it could fix internal issues itself without manual intervention.
In terms of functionality, reliability, and scalability, we are satisfied with NetApp.
Adding AI capabilities could enhance the offering as well.
Maintenance can also be complicated, especially when deeper troubleshooting requires navigating the CLI and searching for logs.
They're expensive.
While they say it's free, we actually pay for support upfront.
Some smaller organizations may find it slightly expensive, but for enterprises, when considering performance, future hardware investments, and overall benefits, it is a very cost-effective solution for mid and enterprise organizations.
I'd rate the pricing eight out of ten.
It would definitely be more on the expensive side, especially if you compare it with open source solutions like Ceph.
From what I understood, it was cheaper than EMC ECS, though this was over seven years ago.
The pricing is considered expensive.
FlashArray's integration with the Pure One instrument provides a centralized platform for efficient management of all arrays.
Another noteworthy aspect is their platform, Pure One, a cloud-based analytics platform that automatically creates a case and sends out a part if a disk or controller fails.
It handles internal data migration seamlessly in the background without going offline, achieving a hundred percent uptime.
The feature of NetApp StorageGRID that has significantly improved data storage management for my customers is the value of the S3 API because it allows developers who are not infrastructure-oriented to use it and write code against it.
NetApp StorageGRID is a great alternative to AWS S3 buckets.
The scalability is very effective for our customers.
The most valuable feature is its storage management capability.
Zadara's troubleshooting feature is very valuable for me.
