A network monitoring platform with a useful reporting feature, but permission-based options could be better
The initial setup is fairly easy. Most of it's wizard-based. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to set it up. But if you don't know certain things related to protocols and everything else, it might be difficult. If you know how SNMP works, it'll be fairly simple to set up.

Centralized control has improved data center virtualization and streamlined DC DR replication
The pricing of VMware vCenter is high. What was earlier, before it was acquired by Broadcom, was different. Now, Broadcom has acquired it, and the earlier arrangement was that we used to bundle the license and purchase it according to our choice. Now, they bundle it with vSAN, which many organizations may not use. Although we purchase it along with the bundled license, we pay for something which is of no use to us because we have our own storage. If they had separate pricing for each module, organizations could purchase only the modules they need, and the price would lower. For smaller organizations, this can become a huge cost issue. For larger organizations, there is no issue, but for medium-sized organizations, they have to shell out a lot.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Reporting on NetCrunch is pretty good; it's very similar to SolarWinds, just with a different interface, and the majority of everything there was beneficial."
"The setup is very intuitive and quick - it all just took a few minutes we were done."
"We use VMware vCenter for centralization and to manage all the VMs."
"VMware vCenter has significantly improved our infrastructure management by enabling virtualization. We can virtualize our infrastructure, eliminating the need to access servers physically. Everything can be managed remotely."
"The initial setup is straightforward even for complex environments with around 100 hosts."
"We manage practically everything using the solution."
"The most valuable features of the solution are virtualization and ease of backing up the virtual and on-premises servers."
"The integration of vCenter server with any software, whether from VMware or a third party, is smooth and straightforward."
"We typically manage VMs after the OS is installed. vCenter simplifies VM management by allowing for the configuration and operation of VMs once an OS, like Windows, is installed."
"The DRS, high availability and manageable switches are the most valuable features of VMware vCenter"

Cons

"Our network is made up of a lot of Cisco devices, and it needs improvements."
"I didn't care for the role-based, permission-based options, which were not the best."
"Efficiency and redundancy can be increased, minimizing or mitigating downtime."
"They could provide flexibility and cost-effectiveness for product licensing."
"The scalability could be enhanced."
"VMware vCenter does not have a centralized security dashboard, and it is pretty tedious to configure."
"Enhancing the product's capabilities on the backend could be beneficial."
"The solution’s pricing could be improved."
"Sometimes, vCenter management can be difficult if you forget the password. You can't change or recover the password easily. We then have to reinstall vCenter, which means reconfiguring everything. That's a challenge we've encountered."
"Consolidating these plugins into a unified environment with customizable options to enable or disable features would be highly beneficial."
