The weaknesses I would like to address in Oracle Enterprise Manager involve the dealing of Grid Infrastructure. Oracle Enterprise Manager's handling of Grid Infrastructure needs some improvement. I want to see additional features in the future that deal with security in relation to Oracle Grid Infrastructure. I want to improve these two components.

1) When updating a model after generating a schema, if only a few tables are imported, the tool assumes you want to delete the rest. If you have a large model, you repeatedly have to clarify that you don't want to delete each one. 2) If one could view the same model on physical, logical, and conceptual levels while retaining all information specific to each level (including layout), that would be excellent.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It's the most reliable database available on the market."
"The most valuable feature is its ability to integrate directly into S Space and move data, run business rules, run calculation scripts, and things like that."
"It's easy to implement as it's made by Oracle for Oracle."
"This solution allows us to quickly drill down when there are issues."
"Can drastically reduce the diagnostic time and help monitoring multiple instances."
"I would recommend that you try OEM, it can monitor many different products and it has been well designed."
"The 13cR2 updates to the OEM family, strongly integrate Cloud (off-site, hybrid and on-premise) services providing a seamless way to see all of your resources regardless of where they are deployed."
"It's a useful feature to be able to see the top SQL, the number of executions, the CPU, and the resources that it's using."
"It was immensely helpful in collecting SQL database data, especially as I am not a database admin/engineer."
"It is a very good option for creating and editing SQL scripts, especially large ones that I have run in support of government billing applications."
"It's a must-buy, and both pricing and licensing is well in the range of every organization."
"I have used it for over six years."
"Horizontal layout for each connected database connection makes it easy to work with multiple databases at the same time."
"Toad allowed us to run the query on the cloud DB and return data from the query, making things much faster."
"This product is fast to learn and a user-friendly tool."
"TOAD makes it easy to code and compile stored procedures, is easy to find and edit code, offers the ability to debug and test, and is a great tool that saves a lot of time because it has a lot of components all in one tool so you don’t need to open or use other apps or the command line."

Cons

"UI is the part that I like to see improved in the future."
"It can be a process hog sometimes."
"It could improve in some areas like the screen. It's not so clear for the novice, when a new person looks at the screen he/she may not really understand where to start first."
"Technical support could be more responsive."
"Some of the new features it could give us: maybe access to some of the taxation data and also some of the other benefits it could include as part of the system."
"It was a very, very complicated product to set up."
"Oracle Enterprise Manager could improve the monitoring types and the graphics."
"We would like to have a single dashboard for monitoring and controlling all of our products. This would add value, for us, because as it is now, we have to go to different screens to check different products."
"Many users don't know how to add licensing to Toad, or where it is shown, so they could make that easier."
"It's quite stable but takes a bit of a time to run SQL queries if the database is huge."
"It is not feasible for small businesses. It is not used in a small company."
"What could be improved in Toad Data Modeler is stability and the complex setup."
"When updating a model after generating a schema, if only a few tables are imported, the tool assumes you want to delete the rest, which is cumbersome."
"Although a lot of people get deceived by the name “Data Analysis”, it has capacity of any enterprise tool, but not to the point of creating multiple pipes in one integrated work-flow, batching the work-flows and running them parallel for data loads."
"The product should provide better debugging features."
"Sometimes, Toad crashes without a clue as to why, and it needs an immediate restart."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"There is only the standard licensing fee. There are no other costs."
"The solution is free."
"The pricing is very high."
"It is part of Real Application Testing, so no new investment is necessary for clients who already are already using RAT."
"Initially, our deal was for three years, and we extended it to five years. Oracle solutions are very costly."
"I rate Oracle Enterprise Manager’s pricing a five out of ten."
"We are satisfied with the pricing."
"As with all Oracle products, care should be taken when using any features to ensure that they do not activate licensed features that have not been paid for."
"Price-wise, the lesser it is, the better it is for me, especially in Egypt. I think that the licensing cost ranges from 1,000 to 9,000. Also, it includes maintenance and support for a year."
"Though I'm not involved in the licensing for Toad Data Modeler, I believe it's per user and not cheap."
