Has allowed me to build and deploy containerized applications consistently by integrating automated image updates and CI/CD workflows
The features of Red Hat Quay that I have found most valuable include the ability to switch between the previous version and the newer version; this is an extra feature currently added, and I appreciate this feature. Red Hat Quay's automated image building has helped my CI/CD pipeline efficiency by allowing me to store my source code from GitHub and GitLab to my images. It's very convenient, and it automatically stores my images to deploy in the OpenShift application, making it easier to deploy and run the application without any troubleshooting. The positive impacts I have seen from using Red Hat Quay include the ability to change to a newer version and roll back to the older version. This is the only feature I find beneficial, and I can monitor how many people download my images, which I can verify with the analytics provided. The value of geo-replication in maintaining consistent access to container images is significant since I store data in MongoDB and use the Apache Web Server application running in Quay.io, where I store my images.

Have struggled to find consistent use cases but have used it to support container deployment workflows
I never determined the accuracy of the scanning because I did not utilize this feature. Unfortunately, I have limited experience as I have only helped utilize from a client's platform that installed it before. Regarding VMware Harbor Registry, I did not use it extensively, so I cannot provide detailed feedback. I did not use any specialized use cases of the particular product. I do not think they have anything to improve. It is more about the difference in the product because VMware Harbor Registry is installed mostly on-premises as an image registry, whereas Docker Hub is more convenient and online. One has on-premises secure security, and the other offers convenience because it is online. The initial navigation required learning, but that is more of a developer issue rather than a product issue. The image scanning in VMware Harbor Registry is quite limited compared to other specialized image scanning tools. While it is convenient to have image scanning packaged with VMware Harbor Registry, it is not as comprehensive in terms of security.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Red Hat Quay's automated image building enhances CI/CD pipeline efficiency because all our applications are deployed through CI/CD pipeline, whether Jenkins or Octopus, and can pull images directly through Red Hat Quay using robot accounts and service accounts."
"The best features Red Hat Quay offers for my work are that it is easily integrated with RHEL, so if our environment is RHEL-based and we have already purchased the subscription for RHEL, it is better to use Red Hat Quay because it also improves reliability and integrates easily with all the RHEL-related tools like OpenShift."
"It's easy to use, and it does what it is meant for."
"Red Hat Quay's automated image building has helped my CI/CD pipeline efficiency by allowing me to store my source code from GitHub and GitLab to my images, making it easier to deploy and run the application without any troubleshooting."
"Things like downloading an image, pulling an image, tagging, and pushing it back to the needed organization are fairly easy compared to doing things through the command-line interface."
"The most valuable features of VMware Harbor Registry are that it's lightweight and the in-built Trivy solution, which I find valuable mainly for the vulnerability scanning that it publishes."
"It is very convenient to automate consistently deploying it to a Kubernetes environment to see how it performs."

Cons

"It could be more integrated with other platforms."
"I think Red Hat Quay could improve the security, as users can download the images without a login."
"Nothing is happening regarding AI. I don’t see the role of AI currently."
"The default credential rewrite is one of the major pains with Harbor, so this has to be improved."
"The image scanning in VMware Harbor Registry is quite limited compared to other specialized image scanning tools."
