Centralized monitoring has reduced outages and enables faster diagnosis across all database servers
The best features Redgate Monitor offers include detailed resource monitoring, instant alerts, and easy customization. A user can quickly see how your server is performing and which queries are taking the longest. The instant alerts and customizable options help since it is a multiple-platform database observability for the entire estate. I use this to optimize performance, ensure security, and mitigate potential risks with fast, deep-dive analysis and intelligent alerting. I love Redgate Monitor because it helps manage an entire database estate from a single pane of glass. Redgate Monitor has positively impacted my organization by creating database observability to proactively mitigate potential risks with instant problem diagnosis and customizable alerting. It accelerates daily database maintenance by automating time-consuming manual tasks, such as identifying long-running queries or tracking blocked processes, which frees up time to proactively improve the performance and security of servers. I have seen time savings from twenty percent to forty-five percent. It also helps to minimize downtime.

Real-time monitoring has improved our banking API performance and supports detailed business transaction analysis
The real-time monitoring is what we can see for anything that is needed in terms of CPU, memory, or the connections or the sessions related. It's real-time monitoring of performance of each of the components, which is what we need and use all the time. It's highly effective, I would say. Infrastructure visibility, transaction monitoring, to check the actual user experience in terms of the response time, MRT and all those things. We do the component monitoring like the API performance and the connections and all those things, but we also do the business process monitoring and business transaction monitoring.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Redgate Monitor has impacted our organization positively by helping us simplify day-to-day tasks and realize a feeling of security."
"Redgate Monitor has positively impacted my organization by creating database observability to proactively mitigate potential risks with instant problem diagnosis and customizable alerting."
"We've been able to triage and diagnose problems sooner and proactively tell the teams involved if there have been lags in their performances, so they could look into them before there are any errors in production."
"We had no issues with scalability, and it was very good for us."
"The initial setup is simple."
"We can see the customer's path from their computer to the backend systems."
"The best feature of about Splunk AppDynamics is its interface, which allows me to see the full transaction, exactly what is happening, from where it starts to where the call is going, all the services involved in a call, and exactly the time it took from each node to each node along with the network delays."
"The ability to check parameters for microservice applications is most valuable. It is important for me. I can manually create new business transactions for applications and individually monitor business transactions. I can also use a lot of extensions. It has a lot of extensions to monitor other third-party applications, such as NoSQL applications, memory cache applications, Kafka applications, and Couchbase applications. It is very useful. We are also using the end-user monitoring site to follow all end-user activities. It is important for us to check the errors on the customer site."
"The most valuable feature is the ability for developers to do performance analysis functions by functions, be able to understand response time, and be able to improve code when they need to."
"Through our history, AppDynamics has always been the one on top of making sure that it continues to work; it works from the database through to the browser, whether it's a mobile or a desktop, and I can see that full interaction, which I don't get out of any other APM with as many platforms."

Cons

"Regarding pricing, setup cost, and licensing, I must say I don't favor the subscription model, and the price is somewhat higher."
"It is a bit expensive for MSPs to use for their day-to-day monitoring."
"The AppDynamtics on-premises platform is immature, and it does not scale."
"An improvement could be if the monitoring was able to be summarized into something more clear and simple for people who don't have the technical skills on the database side."
"One aspect that requires improvement is the agent. Without an agent, gathering sufficient information on applications is challenging. Additionally, the agent sometimes creates performance issues in production environments."
"The cost element is an issue. I can't expect the company to change its way of work. However, given the fact that we earn and do all our business in South African Rand, I would prefer to buy in Rand as opposed to the American dollar or British pound."
"The major concern lies with reports, specifically their configurability. It's like, if I want to combine multiple reports and generate them all at once, that's not possible. Even though there's a setup for generating 25 reports, I wanted to group them all and generate them in one go, which isn't currently feasible. I have to manually run each report and set the time for it."
"AppDynamics Browser Real-User Monitoring needs to offer an end-to-end experience, including the internet layer and third-party elements that come into play on websites."
"The only thing is that maybe it collects too much right away. There's a lot of noise."
"The integration ability of AppDynamics with other performance testing tools is an area with shortcomings where improvements are required."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"The license for AppDynamics is procured by our customers."
"The tool is expensive."
"Purchasing the product through the AWS Marketplace was good."
"I would like more flexible pricing: A pay-per-use model, rather than just a fixed-price model."
"AppDynamics offers a yearly basis license."
"The license fee for Application Analytics is in the range of 2.5 million over three years, with extra fees for service contingencies."
"We are looking forward to purchasing the solution on the AWS Marketplace."
"AppDynamics Database Monitoring requires a license for database monitoring and other features, while Dynatrace provides monitoring and other features out of the box without additional costs. Sometimes this makes it more challenging to pitch AppDynamics Database Monitoring to customers, especially because you need to buy a separate license. As an implementer, I have yet to learn about the pricing for AppDynamics Database Monitoring. Pricing is taken care of by the sales team."
