Gained full visibility and streamlined threat detection through behavior-based insights and AI integration
Initially, we got to have a lot of false positives when we onboarded, but nowadays it's quite smooth. We have fine-tuned our security policies and allowed different levels of policies to get rid of those false positives. Currently, we are getting a fairly good amount of incidents that are not false positives or benign, but actionable items. The process is streamlined. In the initial days, the operations used to get involved in a lot of benign and other activities, but now the process is streamlined. We are leveraging the auto-detection and remediation plans. The operations teams are now more involved in other business roles as well, not just looking into the logs and fetching out what's happening there. They have fixed a lot of things. Initially, they didn't have IAC code drift detection, cloud posture management, or security posture management, but they have those now. They purchased different vendors and did a merger with that. They have now Prisma Cloud that gets integrated and now they are working with Cortex Cloud. Everything that was negative has now been addressed, and the product altogether looks to be in a very better and mature shape now. Currently, it's more or less detecting the workloads with AI-based best practices. Since most organizations are consuming AI agents and other things, we are looking forward to seeing what other feature enhancements Palo Alto can support in that.

Protects the global station and has good stability
The feature I find most valuable is that it protects the global station The solution's integration with the Windows environment could be better. The solution needs better integration with products, if it did, it would have the assumption of better security. I've been using the solution since…

Management becomes easier with minimal complications, but improvement in support tools needed
Regarding areas of improvement for Symantec Endpoint Security, there are many changes, and the support portal tool is complicated compared to other tools. When trying to get service from Symantec, the process is complex. I'm not sure whether it's because of my project or something else. Though it is easy to manage, easy to get, easy to install, and works efficiently for managing policies, we faced a significant disadvantage. We wanted to add multiple hashes because of numerous new alerts coming, but we could only add them one by one, which is a considerable disadvantage in Symantec.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It's a perfect solution. It integrates well into the environment."
"It's a nice product that's stable and scalable."
"The most valuable feature of Cortex XDR by Palo Alto Networks is the low consumption of system resources. The solution uses a lot of AI and machine learning."
"Traps pays for itself within the first 16 months of a three-year subscription."
"If you are looking to deploy a security solution as a whole, this is a good option."
"They did what they said, and this solution could apply to any scenario."
"Its ability to react to cyber data attacks is awesome. That is pretty much the use of it. What blows your mind is the ability to access your assets remotely and see what is actually going on with them. You can not only see them in a console. You can also react very rapidly to your assets that are compromised."
"One of the things that I enjoy the most is using policy extensions. It's like having host firewalls to control USB connections. I think it's a wonderful tool to restrict use when connecting to our computers. Another important tool is Home Insights. That is an add-on to the Cortex solution. I like that because we can see all the vulnerabilities in the environment and control what assets are connected to our network."
"If you need a Windows based multi-functional end-point security solution then this product is for you."
"The feature I find most valuable is that it protects the global station."
"It is very good for preventing cryptolocker attacks."
"The biggest benefit right now is that we have a lot of people who know it well."
"The solution is easy to manage."
"The initial setup is very simple and straightforward."
"The product provides great security and is very user friendly."
"I find the most valuable feature is that the product works on Linux and Microsoft Windows, and I think it is one of the best solutions to implement or host IPs."
"We are satisfied with it."
"It is a stable product."
"For what we are paying for, which is a signature-based antivirus, the product is fine."

Cons

"One thing that was missing was the integration part. Currently, they don't have out-of-box integration with IBM QRadar, or if they have the integration, the integration doesn't work well."
"The deployment is pretty hard."
"In reporting they should have a customizable dashboard due to the fact that C-level people don't like reporting to the IT department. They prefer to have a real-time dashboard. That kind of dashboard needs to have various customizations."
"A little bit more automation would be nice."
"It would be good if they could make an exception for applications. Sometimes, it can be a bit of a challenge to make exceptions for certain applications that have been used as rogue."
"The negative aspect I see is the economic model used by Palo Alto."
"I feel that it should not be a licensed activity because a feature should allow us to see applications running on end devices."
"Enhancing UI simplicity and playbook flexibility are areas that could benefit from more low-code automation options for smoother integrations."
"Only Windows based. Dependence on MS updates and service start-up priority."
"Release speed for newer versions. When a new OS is released, you've got to wait half year to get the new version that covers the new Windows OS."
"The solution's integration with the Windows environment could be better."
"We have found Symantec's technical support to be very sluggish. They are very slow to respond and alert us to changes."
"If there is a suspicious file, it is put into a sandbox where Symantec does an analysis. After the analysis, Symantec marks the file as a risk, but it doesn't blacklist or block the file. If a file is already known to be harmful, I would like them to automatically block or blacklist it to reduce the damage."
"The solution's reporting could be improved."
"We open tickets through the webpage and nobody happens."
"The agent shouldn't use up so many resources at the endpoint when scanning and protecting."
"If a machine is infected by ransomware, it's hard to recover the data. We don't have any data on the client, so we're not overly concerned about that. Still, it would be nice to have this feature if there are any future problems."
"We had some issues during deployment. When doing a 40.000 McAfee migration nodes for SEP, I have faced challenges removing specific MacAfee features where SEP has no supportability."
"In the next release of this solution, I would like to see more to do with malware, encryption technology, and controlling mobile devices."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I don't like that they have different types of licenses."
"Cortex XDR’s pricing is very reasonable."
"Compared to CrowdStrike, Cortex XDR is an expensive solution."
"It has a yearly renewal."
"Cortex XDR by Palo Alto Networks is an expensive solution."
"The solution is expensive. It's pricing is on a yearly-basis."
"The price of the solution could be reduced. I have customers that have voiced that the solution is good for the value but if I want to sell more of the solution the price reduction would help."
"The price of the product is not very economical."
Information not available
"Symantec Endpoint Security is an expensive solution."
"Licensing is per user. Therefore, it makes it easy to do licensing."
"The pricing is pretty much at the market standard... Symantec is not that cheap and it's not that expensive compared to CrowdStrike. I would put them in the 'middle block.'"
"The prices fluctuate, but this year I think it was maybe around $12,000."
"Symantec Endpoint Security's pricing is okay. It is cheaper compared to other products."
"We pay on a yearly basis..."
"Its price is fair."
"It is normal. If you are an educational institute, they give you a very good discount. If you are coming from the banking side, they may or may not give you a discount. I'm working with seven companies, and normally, they get a 65% to 70% discount on everything."
