Risk-based triage has transformed container security and now prioritizes high-impact threats
The best features Qualys TotalCloud offers currently include managing cloud infrastructure and container security while facing major challenges such as alert fatigue. Traditional vulnerability scanners flag hundreds of CVEs on short-lived Kubernetes containers, some of which have no internet exposure or are gone before we can even triage them. I leverage Qualys TotalCloud to move beyond static CVSS. I use it to implement runtime exposure, correlation risk reprioritization, and shift-left integration. This notifies developers to fix a base image upstream rather than patching live ephemeral instances. In my work with cloud and container security, the biggest operational hurdle was alert fatigue. I use Qualys to shift left from static CVSS severity to context-aware risk prioritization. I correlated raw vulnerability data with real-time risk factors such as public network exposure, active runtime execution, or overly permissive IAM roles. This allows us to immediately drop the priority of isolated containers and escalate lower-severity CVEs that sit on an exposed, high-risk path. We can map these findings directly back to our CI/CD pipelines so developers can patch the root base images upstream. We have drastically cut down the signal-to-noise ratio, saved a lot of manual hours doing triage work, and ensured engineering effort goes directly towards high-impact risk reduction.

Endpoint monitoring has strengthened incident response and provides rapid isolation and forensics
Tanium provides an endpoint which is isolated from the network and environment. We can easily search its logs and history and connect remotely directly to that particular device which has been isolated from the network. We can search for the history and logs, including audit logs and event logs. The complete activity of the user or owner of the device is visible to us. We can see the artifacts of particular USB transfers internally for official use. We can not only connect remotely but also see the device status and how many failures have occurred within the network so far. We can see the IP address, how many times it has changed its IP address, and how many times it was connected to VPN or external VPN or internal VPN and what has been searched while on VPN. We can block the IOCs or IP addresses as well. We can block domains, hashes, SHA values, SHA-256, SHA-1, SHA-5 and MD5. Although I am not completely involved in the automation team, we do have that team and I have worked in some CERT recently. Tanium is more useful while we are in the CERT because most of the times when we are on high alert, Tanium does play a main role for that particular incident or any high case. Tanium is a simple tool and we can easily integrate it to many devices and it is a mandatory tool to secure an endpoint. It is mandatory to give any RDP connection and the tool should be present in the particular device. It is completely mandatory and it is in the policy as well.

Risk-based workflows have transformed how our teams prioritize and track critical vulnerabilities
One important area for improvement could be reporting flexibility and dashboard customization, as this would need to align with specific organizational requirements. I believe it could be better. Additionally, UI simplification and more customization around workflows and reporting would further enhance the analyst experience. Improvements in executive reporting, more customizable dashboards, and deeper workflow flexibility would enhance operational usability further. Vulcan Cyber handles scalability well in our organization. It maintains stability for visibility and remediation tracking, avoiding the need for additional storage, as it is cloud-based. It scales well in our environment, even as vulnerability data and assets grow significantly.

Quotes from Members

Pros

"TotalCloud offers a comprehensive suite of features, including EDR, XDR, and TrueRisk, providing a centralized platform for managing vulnerabilities and security risks."
"One of the most valuable features of Qualys TotalCloud is FlexScan, which is specifically for internet-facing VMs. We found this feature to be very useful. It was a key differentiator for us."
"Qualys TotalCloud has significantly improved our organization by automating our reporting processes, reducing the time spent on report creation from two hours to less than fifteen to twenty minutes."
"The dashboards are particularly valuable as they offer a comprehensive view of the environment, highlighting any misconfigurations."
"Multi-cloud visibility saves time and makes things easier, as we can also have comparability to see what configuration differences have been made from cloud to cloud."
"Qualys TotalCloud provides a single, prioritized view based on requirements such as identifying the most vulnerable assets and calculating the average time to remediate vulnerabilities."
"Qualys TotalCloud has helped us view our risk structure, vulnerabilities, and security posture."
"I would rate Qualys TotalCloud ten out of ten."
"It's definitely not complex, it is pretty user-friendly and it's a solid tool enterprise to use."
"Tanium's most valuable feature is its instant discovery aspect."
"For inventory purposes, it's from one of the best things on the scene, as you can get live inventory."
"Tanium is a very good product and I would rate it eight or nine out of ten."
"Tanium's most valuable features are patch management, inventory, and distribution software."
"Tanium is stable and it is also lightweight."
"I like the fact that you can create patching campaigns depending on the area of your network that you want to address first. I like the ability it has to make several campaigns that work in parallel."
"The product is granular and can build complex roles compared to other EDR vendors."
"Vulcan enables us to automate tickets from multiple scanners. It has lots of analytics options that show us charts and allow us to view the statuses in different waves. The dashboard is nice because it's highly informative about the big picture."
"Out of the three solutions I've used, Vulcan Cyber is the superior option."
"Vulcan Cyber is a very good tool."
"I was part of the initial deployment. It was pretty easy. To fully deploy, it took about three or four weeks."
"There is a lot of flexibility in exporting, making it a really good feature. The exporting flexibility based on application type is commendable and provides significant value."
"They recently upgraded their UI, which is great. It is user-friendly."
"Vulcan Cyber gives the remediation team the focus points."
"One of the features that I find valuable is the ability to bifurcate the report according to the many options available."

Cons

"I would appreciate additional integration options to connect Qualys TotalCloud with our other vulnerability management tools."
"The improvement needed in Qualys TotalCloud is mainly in the artificial intelligence automation agents, where we can customize and create what meets our needs, not necessarily having to use those provided in the tool."
"The downside is only in container security, but it has not been a long time since they introduced these models."
"The price is very expensive, actually."
"The cloud licensing unit system is unclear, especially since "units" aren't well-defined."
"With the growing integration of AI, I would like Qualys to enhance its service offerings to better accommodate AI-related risks."
"An area for improvement would be to focus on risks related to AI, such as large language models and potential data leakage."
"In my opinion, what can be improved in Qualys TotalCloud includes pricing and container scanning."
"Any movement into a SaaS solution has challenges since the processes and data flows are not well defined. Hence, you need to build it at the same time."
"They could improve the UI."
"The problem or challenge is a pre-sales and go-to strategy for the SMB market delivered through a channel or model. It's very convoluted and vague, which leads to some confusion about the various types of modules, and the device-to-seat cost is extremely difficult to calculate."
"Tanium's limitations should be improved because although it is a great tool, it is limited to only a few classes during a session."
"The solution lacks mobility."
"When working with Tanium, there are some older devices that haven't been patched for a long time, and certain patches are not included in Tanium. I have to search outside to download patches, create bundles, and then perform the task."
"I would like to have more integrations and custom plugins to input. Integration is always a big deal in a lot of different environments."
"The solution needs to improve the reporting and tracking capabilities."
"I would rate the tool between six and seven because there have been instances when the tool was down, and I couldn't access Cyber reports. Additionally, the Vulcan Cyber team made changes to the tool and did not notify us."
"Their support is good, but there are some flaws as well. We often encounter some issues that are not applicable to Vulcan Cyber as a whole; they apply only to us because we have customized requirements. In such cases, when we reach out with specific data and issues to their support team, they sometimes come back and say that the issues have been resolved. However, when we test to see if they have been remediated, they are still there."
"The fact that we cannot use it for our reporting leads me to rate it three out of ten."
"Initially, when onboarding Vulcan Cyber, the setup and configuration was more complex than expected with a user-friendly approach. This aspect can be enhanced."
"I would describe Vulcan Cyber's user interface as adequate, but there are gaps that need addressing."
"If there was a way for me to connect to the vendor directly from the application, it would be helpful."
"It would be extremely helpful to have a community group around the product."
"An important area is performance and speed, as Vulcan Cyber often lacks speed when exporting reports."

"I am not sure about the pricing. From what I understand, it is a bit on the higher side, but I do not have the exact numbers."

"While Qualys TotalCloud's pricing is currently acceptable, it is becoming increasingly expensive and may soon be considered overpriced."
"TotalCloud's price is about right where I would expect it to be."
"Although Qualys TotalCloud is relatively expensive due to its unique automation features, its cost-effectiveness is rated an eight out of ten, with ten being the most costly."

"Its pricing is quite fair compared to what is out there in the market, especially compared to the tool from Microsoft. It is a SaaS platform that has an annual cost, so it is something that is already used by many companies. It is quite affordable."
"Our leadership knows better about the pricing. As per my knowledge, which might not be accurate, its price can come down."
