Experience with offsite backup enhances data integrity and reduces on-premise reliance
One of the features of Veritas Alta SaaS Protection that customers are looking for is immutability. This is the most important feature. With the cloud, Veritas Alta SaaS Protection is actually in the cloud, which means they have unlimited space to do their backups. They can expand on a need-to-need basis. The automated recovery feature of Veritas Alta SaaS Protection makes the recovery much easier, as opposed to earlier methods where we were using scripts to do the restore. Currently, it's automated so you just do a click. You select the feature in a graphical interface, making it easy to use even for a newbie.

Unified backups have protected virtual machines and applications and optimize storage efficiency
Regarding automated disaster recovery, we have not used Veritas NetBackup automated disaster recovery because according to the RFP terms and conditions, we are not supposed to have automated failover or failback, as we are a government entity and cannot violate the rules of the RFP. My feedback about granular recovery in Veritas NetBackup is that we have been doing verifications of the backed-up data to restore from point to point and time to time, focusing on file level or database level. When it comes to integration with cloud services, we have not started because we are a government entity and are not allowed to store any data in the cloud at this time. From security concerns regarding what I would improve about Veritas NetBackup, I think you need to look into this because we found only one encryption option available, which is not that very strong. When I initiate a backup from my laptop or server to the appliance or the tape media using Veritas NetBackup, the encryption channels are not strong, and there are not many options available. Whatever is there is by default and not changeable. We cannot modify any encryption facilities, and security is a big concern nowadays, so you need to look into that. Regarding the functionality part of Veritas NetBackup, I think this encryption feature should be stronger and integrated from point to point, not just at specific levels. When I initiate a backup, all the communication channels involved should be encrypted until it reaches the endpoint, meaning from client to server, server to client, and client device.

Pros

"What I like most about Veritas SaaS Backup is that it is easy to work on and has compatible features."
"The automated recovery feature of Veritas Alta SaaS Protection makes the recovery much easier, as opposed to earlier methods where we were using scripts to do the restore."
"he most valuable feature is that it's not so intrusive with computer resources."
"The duplication is the solution's most valuable feature."
"It's very comprehensive. It's one of the first brands to appear in its field."
"The solution is stable; I haven't experienced any bugs or glitches on it."
"I would recommend this solution because it covers the total scope of Office 365."
"It excels in performance and delivery but they are quiet on the market."
"It is easy to use, and you can run it with all kinds of client software environments. It works well with the most popular software, file systems, and operating systems. It is very useful to us."
"We use Veritas NetBackup for protecting our environment, e.g. the whole production environment is protected by this solution, and we also use it for replication, so that it also serves as a backup solution for our production environment."
"The most valuable feature of Veritas NetBackup is the protection policies or protection module."
"We are quite satisfied with the performance and reliability of the NetBackup product. When it comes to specific features, the most valuable is the Instant Recovery feature, which we call "short-term IR". Instant Recovery allows users to spin up backup images and bring back any VM instantly."
"We believe that everything Veritas NetBackup offers, including backups, snapshots, deduplication, and replication, is valuable."
"This product is flexible enough to allow for backing up data from physical machines, as well as from your cloud environment."
"This backup and recovery product is good, although looking at my current environment, it is pretty old."
"The support from Veritas NetBackup is very good."

Cons

"The program is quite expensive and I am not impressed by their technical support."
"They should review the cost aspect of the subscription for Veritas Alta SaaS Protection because customers are going for the cheaper storage, which doesn't give those features in terms of dedup ratios."
"Licensing has been a struggle. It went from bronze, silver to gold. Licensing needs more sophistication. It has features that are sold as separate add-ons."
"The implementation could be improved. The server setup is very easy, but some specific client implementation, for example, Oracle or SQL servers, are a little bit complicated. they should offer a bit more assistance with the setup for these particular items."
"Other people will prefer this solution because they're used to it. However, from my point of view, you have more breaks, more failures on it than you will with Commvault."
"In the future, we would like to see support for virtualized machines."
"When you finish a project, the client should have the opportunity to browse the files rather than simply ending the contract. Also, it's not possible to recover earlier versions. It should be possible to have a database for recovering files after you finish a contract. There's no solution for this from Veritas."
"The go-between is a Veritas partner, so the customer support was not that good."
"The product is not able to keep up with other competitors in the market."
"The backup operation interface is not as mature as those of Veritas's competitors and has room for improvement."
"The security and performance could improve with Veritas NetBackup. The security could be improved by protecting the data from attackers."
"The web interface is not modern."
"The biggest problem with NetBackup is licensing."
"Veritas NetBackup has been in the backup and recovery market for quite a long time, but somehow, from my own observations and from feedback from end users, its user interface is lagging behind other comparable solutions such as Veeam."
"Enhancing reporting across the board would be beneficial."
"The licensing costs could be more affordable."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The tool is expensive compared to Veeam."
"SaaS Backup isn't the most expensive solution."
"I would rate this solution's pricing as five out of five."
"The program is quite expensive."
"This solution is not cheap and not expensive but priced in the mid-range."
"The price of Veritas NetBackup is high, it should be reduced."
"Pricing is pretty costly as compared to the other products but worth investing for the long term and high ROI."
"Pricing is good, under our budget, and flexible."
"Price-wise, most of the backup products are similarly priced, and NetBackup is the same."
"A better price would make this product more competitive."
"Pricing is expensive, so it could be lower."
"If you want to have more scalability you have to purchase more licenses. The license is annually and there are a lot of different licensing depending on the number of terabytes needed. It is not based on per-user, core, or servers. You can backup anything you want using the purchased terabyte space."
"The pricing, of course, can always be better."
